Tell me Everything by Elizabeth Strout I could literally read Elizabeth Strout all day. Her books are so wonderful they epitomise what reading pleasure means to me. The only problem is that you end up reading one of her books too quickly. Every book of hers is so rich and vibrant with characters and place you just become completely lost in the world Elizabeth Strout creates. And with each new book that world widens and expands whilst simultaneously bringing more and more of her books and characters together.. I started reading Elizabeth Strout with Olive Kitteridge and have devoured every Lucy Barton book. Lucy Barton’s books started as standalone stories but she has slowly been drawn into the same world of Olive Kitteridge and the small town of Crosby in Maine. Bob Burgess, who has been a part of both Olive and Lucy’s stories over the years is now the central character after being the one of the central figures in The Burgess Boys (which for some reason I haven’t read yet!). Bob’s story picks up where Lucy’s last story dropped us off. But the other amazing thing about Elizabeth Strout’s novels is you can jump into the world at any time, at any place which makes her books perfect for old and new fans. There is a great plot to this novel but I’m not going to write a synopsis because the heart of this novel is Bob Burgess; his friendship with Lucy Barton, his relationship with his family and his part in the community. Most of which Bob is completely unaware of. This is a novel about Life, Love and friendship and all the things that go on inbetween; both beautiful and tragic. There are so many scenes in this book that are just absolutely storytelling perfection. I desperately need to fill in the gaps of my Elizabeth Strout reading because I need to read every word she has written. If you haven’t read Elizabeth Strout I implore you to pick up any one of her books and I almost guarantee you will be in love with her writing too. She is just amazing. Tell me Everything is another exquisite novel from a writer who just gets better and better with every book, which just blows my mind. #elizabethstrout #tellmeeverything #lucybarton #olivekitteridge

I laughed, I cried, I reevaluated my life 📚Gave me a new appreciation for life and love, for having someone to love and love you 📚I felt like the characters were real people 📚Takeaways: Everyone is complicated and flawed, everyone is just trying to survive life in their own way, loneliness comes in many forms . . . #bookstagram #bookreview #olivekitteridge #elizabethstrout

«Me llamo Lucy Barton»      Strout, Elizabeth. Terribilmente umiliata. Mi aveva messa in ginocchio. E poi è successo a me .

Recent bookmail & tbr ✨ Thank you to the tagged publishers for these books!! Tell Me Everything by Elizabeth Strout (08/13): By one of my favourite authors, where characters from her previous books all collide. I’m waiting to read this one - I’ll be cherishing it. We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer (06/18): Imagine you buy a new house, are flipping it, and a previous owner knocks on the door wanting to show his family where he grew up. Granite Harbour by Peter Nichols (out now!): a small town in coastal Maine is shaken to its core by a serial killer. I’m really in a thriller and mystery mood right now so I’ll be getting to this one soon!

📚I’ve doubled down on Elizabeth Strout, and just inhaled the second in her Lucy Barton series, ‘Anything is Possible’ (2017). Strout has a remarkable talent for capturing the small private moments and thoughts of her small town characters in a way that makes you feel you shouldn’t be witnessing them - moments of anguish, humiliation, suffering, naivety, voyeurism. The discomfort felt by being privy to these moments is, like driving past a fresh car crash, riveting. In this novel, Strout avoids an overarching plot, instead dedicating each chapter to a different character, filling in the gaps about the lives of the people that were mentioned during the hometown gossip shared between Lucy and her mother in the first novel in the series, ’My Name is Lucy Barton’. While seemingly disconnected, each vignette has some thread that ties it to another, reflecting the inevitable interconnectedness between people in a small country town. I found myself feeling the suspense in anticipating which character would grace the next chapter - but more so, what dirty little secret would be unveiled. And the secrets kept mercilessly coming: A father’s secret gay life; a couple who spied on their guests; a daughter who walked in on her mother being spanked by the Spanish teacher; a husband who steals from his wife to pay off his prostitute. In fact, the only thing you can be sure of is that each vignette would reveal some kind of pain, fault, sadness or problem. It sounds grim. And it is. But it’s also told in superb prose. It’s a marvel that such unsentimentally economical use of words can convey so much depth, often injecting shards of light into the dark. Since this one, Strout has written two more in her Lucy Barton series, ‘Oh William!’ and ‘Lucy by the Sea.’ I’ve added them to my pile. #anythingispossible #elizabethstrout #lucybarton #ilovereading #bookstagram #welltold_au

Book Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I absolutely love these books. The prose is startlingly crisp and clear, luminescent in the spaces between words. There’s a profound humanity in the characters as they navigate the often bewildering twists and turns of life, reaching for one another, failing, and sometimes, brilliantly, connecting, as they seek meaning in the every day, and reveal our world, brand new. #elizabethstrout #literaryfiction #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookworm #booklover #book #bookaddict #booknerd #booklovers #booklove #bookreview #bookrecommendations #bookcommunity #bibliophile #bookish #bookinstagram #read #reading #readwithus #reader #readersofinstagram #currentlyreading #literature

Sigue partido: nunca volvió a crecer.» @alfaguaraes #AyWilliam #Amgash #ElizabethStrout

Minuta on mennyt Stroutin tuotanto kokonaan ohi. Zmiany w życiu zawodowym i… Lucy i morze, Elizabeth Strout Uwielbiam styl #elizabethstrout! Ostatnie stadium – Nina Lykke Słodko-gorzka.

Another one I finished a few weeks ago... bought this from the wonderful Gould's books in Newtown before an appointment when I'd forgotten to pack a book... WELL, what a writer Elizabeth Strout is. In case you've not read her... I just find her books warm and wise and Oh William! was so comforting. This book made me feel held, somehow (weird, I know. I feel cringe even writing that). BUT LET ME TELL YOU she is also a narrative genius, generating narrative desire through delay and digression. We open with 'I would like to say a few things about my first husband, William'. Then, on page 36, after having explicitly set us up with some visuals and vignettes, our narrator says "And in rather quick succession, two events happened to William. But let me mention just a few more things first." And so Lucy Barton, our narrator, keeps talking to us. The narrative voice is disarming, conversational, sometimes a little too familiar so that I thought "okay, Lucy! I know you're just telling me what you think things mean" - and that's part of her genius, too. You forget you're reading fiction, that it's not Lucy Barton just telling you her thoughts... and yet it is. No chapters. Lots of digressions and memories. Peopled with memorable characters (Mrs Nash pp 28-30). This isn't so much a review as it is a way to record a few of the things I loved about this book. #elizabethstrout #ohwilliam #lucybarton #bookrecommendation #narrativedesire #metafiction #narratology #narrators #writer

➡️E tu hai già letto qualcosa dell’autrice? I’m a bit late with my wrap-up for April as I was on holiday last week. I’ve also included the ebooks and audio books that I consumed which are not shown in the picture. Stars are out of ten and anything with an * was an ad pr product via a publisher. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout - a collection of short stories all connected by the character of Olive Kitteridge. I’m reading in advance of the new Strout book coming out later this year. The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare - a complete farce but the best of his comedies that we’ve read so far as part of the @theupstartcrows2023 readalong. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ In the Blink of an Eye by Jo Callaghan - a real page turner with an AI and human detective working together. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fourteen Days by a collection of authors including Maragret Atwood and Dave Eggers. For me the format just didn’t work, and I’m not really into pandemic books, but I did enjoy Dave Eggers story. * Politics on the Edge by Rory Stewart- listened to this and it is narrated by the author. Lots of interesting insights into Westminster politics, helped me to understand why nothing ever really improves with Ministers changing roles all the time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Crisis by Frank Gardner - enjoyabe enough special agent thriller but nothing very orginal. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas - I’m really glad that I did read book two in this series to see how the plot developed. For me the pace is glacial for most of the book but the ‘blood for blood’ mentality was what has really put me off this author. Though I loved all the memes and the readalong chats. Have you read any of these, what were your views on them? #olivekitteridge #elizabethstrout #fourteendays #intheblinkofaneye #jocallaghan #acomaf #politicsontheedge #rorystewart #thecomedyoferrors #BookwormsUnite #bookstagrammer #bookstack #shelfie #bookstagram #avidreadersunit #bookstagrammeruk #bookstagramuk #ukbookstagram #ukbookstagrammer #readersofinstagram #readersofig #reader #booklover #bookstasolidarity #bookworm #booksbooksbooks #booknerd

About a week ago (cue Bobby Shmurda) Fede and I went to lake como and because I am a Crazy Person ™️ I brought my book journal for pics. Enjoy!! Book 39 - Stealing the Troll’s Heart (Lyonne Riley - Trollkin Lovers #1) 🩵🩵🩵🩵 A troll and human are (literally) at each others throats as their species are at war, but despite their inability to communicate they can’t stop thinking about each other. This was a rec by @books_ergo_sum and @bubblybooknerdreads and it did not disappoint!!!! I loved it. Cute, easy to read, and very satisfying overall. It felt like I was reading a dnd game which is exactly the vibe I want my books to have. I was moving when I read it so I don’t think i appreciated it fully (my bad) but it got me back into monster romances so here we are lmao. Definitely gonna go back to the series when I am off my self-imposed book buying ban lol. Book 40 - Oh William! (Elizabeth Strout) 🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵 Wow a real change of pace here An older woman reflects on her life through the lens of one of her past marriages as she and her ex husband go on a trip together (fiction) Ok I LOVED this book. If you like sally rooney esque books I’d give this a chance. It was just so easy to believe in these characters and feel what they were going through and see what they were seeing. Ugh I loved it. I also want to return to this series once I’m over my book buying ban. „Poszedł do lekarza, którego znał od lat. Doktor przyczepił do nagiej klatki piersiowej metalowe krążki z podłączonymi drucikami.

#fivebooksoneauthor Amy @northerly_heart_reads tagged me to show five read books by five favourite authors. And I seem to have been a bit carried away by the idea. Yes I took out and put back 35 books. Round of applause please. 👏 It’s really interesting to look at which authors you do have five books of. I imagined it to be Kent Haruf (4) or Amy Bloom (4) …. But no, these were the 7 authors I had 5 or more books of. I had 12 of Anne Tyler (but I suspect you might be as tired of looking at them as I am of getting them out). My 7 authors were: ❤️ American writers Larry McMurtry Laurie Colwin Elizabeth Strout ❤️ Canadian writers Helen Humphreys Carol Shields ❤️ English writers Penelope Lively ❤️ Irish writers John Banville I had lots of crime writers - Elly Griffiths, Mick Herron, Benjamin Black and Adrian McKinty, but they can wait for another day. And don’t start me on the Classics. I think Amy is doing a classics version. For me, I’m resting on my laurels. Any of your favourite authors here? As always, join in if it appeals to you. 😊 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booknerd #bookworm #bibliophile #bookish #booklover #readersofinstagram #bookblogger #bookchallenges #johnbanville #larrymcmurtry #lauriecolwin #elizabethstrout #helenhumphreys #carolshields #penelopelively

2024 book #27 Lucy by the Sea by Elizabeth Strout 🫖 🫖 🫖 🫖 Another good read from Elizabeth Strout about her character Lucy Barton that includes cameos from characters from other stories including Bob Burgess (The Burgess Boys) and Olive Kitteridge. This is a novel set during the pandemic but about family, relationships. A very human story set during a difficult time and written in Strout’s sparse, less is more, style. I enjoyed this more than her previous novel Oh William! I’ve now read all of Elizabeth Strout’s books. “It is a gift in this life that we do not know what awaits us.” Stunning, moving… In March 2020, Lucy’s ex-husband, William, insisted she leave New York with him for a few weeks and travel to a coastal house in Maine. Then the Covid pandemic strikes, and they find themselves trapped in a remote house, forced to confront their complex past. Lucy, like many of us, is consumed by memories and begins to question her life. Her daughters, too, are grappling with their own crises, and Lucy finds herself unable to console them. As if this wasn’t enough, the political and social tension in the country is at an all-time high. The Trump era and its polarization add to the pressure. Lucy is left to battle her demons while dealing with the public ones. Elizabeth Strout once again creates vivid characters and tells a beautiful story. I like her tone while discussing relationships and presenting events. She remains honest, non-judgmental, and respectful. Her effort to understand human nature without prejudice is impressive. She portrays the pandemic and anxiety stunningly. The characters from her previous book make a warm contribution to the story. What I find most admirable about Elizabeth Strout’s writing is her ability to infuse hope into her narratives. She is not a dreamy optimist; she is acutely aware of the turmoil and acknowledges the harsh realities. Yet, she manages to find a way to see the new opportunities that arise from these challenges, a testament to her resilience and optimism… #elizabethstrout #lucybythesea #book #novel

#librichepassione #librimania #ioleggo #leggendo #leggeresempre #leggerefabene #prossimolibro #igbookclub #igbookstagram #lettoridiinstagram #lettoricompulsivi #romanzo #romanzi #libro #libri #librodelgiorno #libridaleggere #libriconsigliati #bookgram #book #books #booklover #lettura #letture #lettureconsigliate #diversoinverso #olivekitteridge #elizabethstrout #fazieditore

📸 Foto: “Am Meer” - Elizabeth Strout; @luchterhand_verlag #elizabethstrout #ammeer #luchterhandverlag #autorinnenleben #bookstagramde

📖📖 Double Book Review! 📖📖 🍁 Olive Kitteridege and Olive, Again by Elizabeth Strout 🍁 I picked these books up on a whim - a kind of long funny story, but my grandmother, Olive, who was a flight attendant, was always a big supporter of me getting over my fear of flying. After she passed away in 2019, she has found some way to “show up” when I travel, almost always through her name - streets, restaurants, etc. The day before I left for vacation in February, I visited @shermansofmaine, unsure of what book I wanted to bring with me on the plane, and of course there these were. 😁 She always finds a way. ❤️ Olive Kitteridge - 4 ⭐️ I had a hard time getting into this first one, mostly because I just didn’t understand the flow of the story. Each chapter of the book focuses on new characters, with Olive being the constant. For much of the first half, I waited for them all to come together, and often found myself flipping to pages before trying to figure out who was who and if I’d already been introduced to a character. But as the book went on, I figured out the layout of the story and was able to appreciate that the book was about Olive, and the others were the building blocks of her story. Once I got there, I was able to appreciate the book more, and learn to love Olive and her quirky ways. Olive, Again - 5 ⭐️ Picking up the sequel to Olive Kitteridge, I had no problem at all getting into the story. While some of the chapters focused on single-appearance characters like the first book, overall I felt the second book had more of a story to it, and more character development within multiple characters than the first one. I absolutely loved Olive, Again, and would recommend both books to anyone looking for a quirky story about a cranky lady who you’ll learn to love ❤️ 📖 Author - Elizabeth Strout 📖 Publish Years - Olive Kitteridge - 2008, Olive, Again - 2019 📖 Format - Hard copy

"It hurt my heart with a heaviness as though a damp and dirty dishcloth lay across it." Elizabeth Strout did it again! Brilliant story telling! Ms. Strout adeptly delved into the subject of Covid in her story, showcasing her writing and story telling prowess. She exactly knew how to examine the pandemic through the lenses of her protagonist, Lucy Barton - the anxiety, confusion, and the fear people had when the virus erupted and Lucy experiencing the same making me as a reader recall the same experiences that I had during the lockdown. Furthermore, I believed Ms. Strout wanted to show that when a dismal time like this occurs, human spirit and greater sense of community still transcend over the chaos and tragedy. I also love the interweaving stories of Bob Burgess and Olive Kitteridge, having a cameo in Lucy Barton's narrative. Surely, the fans of Ms. Strout are happy about this. That being said, numerous striking and breathtaking prose and quotes have been delivered, evoking deep introspection and reaffirming why Ms. Strout remains my favorite writer. Overall, another book added to my fave list! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #lucybythesea #elizabethstrout #bookstagram #books #bookreview
