Let me let go… like so many others I struggle with my mental health. I’m doing ok right now and this post is not about gaining sympathy or likes, nor am I saying anything I’m sure you haven’t thought about yourself before. It being mental health awareness week I just thought I’d open up a little incase it helps anyone else feel less alone. I’ve had low self esteem all my life and during times of uncertainty my negative internal chatter can be all encompassing. When it’s bad I believe whole heartedly that I am failing at everything. Naturally this paranoia impacts my relationships and often I struggle to believe that I am worthy of love, no matter how many times I am told I am loved by the people in my life. Then self sabotage sets in and I’m quick to enrage because I’m desperate to break the tension and after a brief feeling of relief I feel guilty and ashamed for being unkind towards others and myself. Then I go round the cycle again and it feels like a self fulfilling prophecy. After a few years in therapy I know that when I feel this way it’s just my mind trying to protect me. To stop me becoming big headed and taking dangerous risks. I just need to remind myself that I can trust myself that I won’t become an ego maniac train dodger! In order to break the cycle I go out for a run or a meditate or do something creative like cook or draw or do Lego - anything that I know will give me a sense of achievement. The small wins start to build up and I start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. That’s what this song is all about and I keep coming back to it whenever I need it. I hope it gives you a little solace too. Currently I have a counsellor that I see once a week which is hugely helping and I’m reading an amazing book called ‘Radical Compassion’ by Tara Brach which I highly recommend if you’re struggling to be kind to yourself. 😜Lekker even helemaal JEZELF ZIJN🤪.... de wens van zoveel mensen en de belofte op zoveel flyers, ook die van mij overigens 🤣 En dan komt het punt dat je delen van jezelf voelt en tegenkomt, die helemaal niet zo LEKKER zijn 😳 'Ehhhh hallo, ik kwam hier om een leuke dag te hebben, zo wil ik me niet voelen...'  Maar je wilde toch meer VOELEN? 🤔 Tja dan krijg je dit er allemaal gratis bij, juist omdat het een niet beter of slechter is dan het ander. Juist omdat dit de transformatie is en je veel meer rust en ruimte geeft als je het gevoeld hebt, als het mag stromen en er gewoon mag zijn ✨ Dus kan je alles van jezelf omarmen en welkom heten? Dat is de grote vraag en voor mijzelf geldt: 'Nou niet altijd meteen, maar wel steeds meer. Steeds meer in liefde en acceptatie kan ik naar de patronen, (niet altijd helemaal tactische en doorleefde) reacties en mechanismes van mezelf kijken. Meer van jezelf leren kennen, is meer VOELEN wat er allemaal in je geraakt wordt🔥, wat er in je leeft en misschien wel op slot is gezet, bang is om nog een keer in de spotlight te gaan staan. ALLES doet er toe, want alles is onderdeel van jou. En nee, dan bedoel ik niet dat je de hele dag in foetus houding op de bank hoeft te liggen snotteren of je buurman boven op z'n neus moet slaan 'omdat je je nou eenmaal zo voelt'. Ik bedoel dat je verantwoordelijkheid neemt voor wat je voelt, dat dit jouw gevoel is getriggerd door een ander, maar daar heeft de ander niet altijd iets mee te maken. Ja..... het is een heel avontuur zo'n JEZELF worden en niemand kan je hier de roadmap of handleiding voor geven, want jij bent uniek 🦄 Dus voel wat JIJ NU nodig hebt en waar je toe aangetrokken wordt, dat is vaak een goede raadgever. Niemand heeft DE WAARHEID in pacht, dus pak van dit buffet van geweldige aanbiedingen en ervaringen wat jou nu voedt en ONT-WIKKEL jezelf elke keer een beetje meer 🧞‍♀️🌟🐲 Heel veel plezier met dit Aardse Avontuur.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week 💙 Mental Health is a topic close to my heart. After having personal experience in my teens and early twenties I worked as a Mental Health Nurse for nine years. Although the stigma around mental health has come a long way, there is still more to be improved. We can all do this in so many ways, some of which include opening up conversations around mental health, connecting to those around us in meaningful ways, practicing self care in whichever ways are beneficial to us, such as getting out in nature and physical movement, so that we can hold space for open and honest conversations about how we are feeling. Here are some of the ways massage can be beneficial for our mental health... 🌈 Relaxes, calms and soothes our minds 🌈 Improves sleep quality 🌈 One hour of massage is equivalent to 7-8 hours of sleep 🌈 Increases energy levels and motivation 🌈 Provides an overall sense of wellbeing 🌈 Helps feelings of fatigue 🌈 Allows for emotional release 🌈 Removes toxins from the body, in turn helping us feel more healthy. July 10, 2020 As we get older, most of us will weigh more than we did twenty years ago. Packing on extra pounds make us susceptible to a wide range of diseases, from diabetes and heart problems to dementia and cancer. These aren't diseases you need to manage for just a few months, but for a lifetime. What's at stake, is your quality of life. Everyone has their own "ideal weight" they would like to be. Forget your ideal weight!! Most are often too hard to reach, which can set you up for disappointment down the road. The fact is, even small amounts of weight loss are healthy. Aim low at first. Even a 7% to 10% weight loss makes a huge impact on your metabolism. Once you reach that goal, the next 10% will become much easier! Small changes are more likely to become permanent over time. Make one or two small, achievable dietary changes at a time, like gradually shifting from regular pasta to whole wheat pasta or gradually reducing the amount of sodium in your diet. You also don't have to hit the gym to get physical activity. The best thing to do is find activities you enjoy, like going for walks with a friend or getting into dancing. The key is to focus on lifestyle changes, rather than losing weight. Making healthy choices can help you at any stage of your life, and the sooner you start making those lifestyle changes, the better. My diet journey all started with a simple trip to the doctor complaining of mild dizziness. A trip that revealed much more serious problems. Very high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar. An inherited genetic condition called #metabolicsyndrome. Which leads to heart disease, increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol levels. It's so important to keep your body moving if you are wanting to burn excess calories. As you build up your fitness level, then you can concentrate on performing more advanced forms of cardio such as interval training, sprints, HIIT and so forth. First get started on building a solid cardio base and then work from there. Cardio exercise also considerably changes the hormonal profile in your body. It releases "feel good" hormones that will help ease symptoms of depression and fatigue as well as releasing hormones that decrease your appetite. Individuals who do regular cardio exercise often have a much more positive outlook on life simply because they are getting the stress-relief benefits from these hormones. May 1, 2019 Just over six months ago I started practicing yoga, and I seriously LOOOVE it more & more each day!! There is truly something magical that happens when I do yoga. My mind and body come together in perfect harmony, and even though the world may feel like it's falling apart all around me... yoga takes me into such a deep state of peace & tranquility that nothing or nobody can disturb it. Hatha Yoga is my favourite. With Hatha, you're forced to push your flexibility to its limits by holding poses for longer lengths of time, and with practice and patience, the most difficult of poses eventually become very easy to achieve!. Apr 14, 2019 MENOPAUSE Anyone else going though it ...?? It's something us women all eventually go through. But did you know that women can begin experiencing peri-meno as early as 30??!! At 37, I began gaining weight rapidly and my periods started becoming crazy irregular. That's the first time I even heard of peri-meno (the transition your body makes just before menopause). I was shocked to hear my doctor say that because I assumed I was too young. At 44, my periods became EXTREMELY heavy, like non-stop excessive bleeding 2-3 wks straight! I was losing so much blood that I collapsed and woke up at the bottom of my stairs. Turned out my hemoglobin was so low I required a blood transfusion. Which helped get my hemoglobin back to normal. But a week later, I was back in the hospital for ANOTHER blood transfusion. The doctor decided to perform an Endometrial Ablation procedure, which destroys the lining of your uterus, completely stopping your menstrual periods. Although I'm now period-free, I still struggle with hot flashes, achy bones, headaches & weight gain. Which is why I wanted to bring this up. Your weight gain isn't necessarily caused by over-eating, or lack of exercise. I couldn't get why I was gaining so much weight when my diet & activity level never changed? My HORMONES however, did. Your metabolism slows right down, so you won't burn as many calories even if you eat the same amount. So don't be discouraged if you've gained a few pounds during menopause. It just means you have to work a bit harder to stay fit. If you're experiencing anything similar to what I did, I hope this will help you along your health journey. This position focuses strongly on the supporting leg by slowly raising your other leg while holding the foot or big toe, and then gently extending the raised leg straight out to the side of the body. Hand-to-foot pose offers many physical benefits. It opens the hips, strengthens the ankles, stabilizes the core, and stretches the large leg muscles. This yoga pose really works the small muscles in the ankles and feet. Practice some simple ankle rotations before attempting this pose. As a beginner, it might be difficult to hold your foot while keeping your knees straight. When first attempting this pose make sure not to overstretch the hamstrings by keeping the raised leg bent and take hold of the knee instead of the foot or toe. If you can't keep your knees straight, the yoga straps really helped me achieve this pose! Mar 25, 2019 WoooHoo I'm finally able to do a #handstand Well, kinda lol! The pillars helped a bit Been trying to do a handstand foreverrrr!! My arms are the weakest part of my body and it's been such a struggle to support all my weight on them. Now that l've been training my arms for a while I'm now able to do one yayyy!! So obviously the best benefit you get from doing handstands is building your arm strength, but that isn't all. Being upside down and standing on your hands forces you to engage your core big time! It takes all of the strength that you can muster in your abdominal muscles as well as your back muscles to stay upright and balanced • Since you need to stay stable, it forces you to use various muscles in your core to achieve that balance. Being upside down requires you to keep making adjustments to stay that way and many of those adjustments need to be done with your core * You don't have to do a bunch of sit-ups to get those abs you always wanted, you can do handstands as well to build your abs and you can have fun while doing them too!! #mentalhealth #mentalillness #thereishope #mentalwellness #breakthestigma #openup #awareness #strong #mentalhealthmatters

Mar 18, 2019 THE SUNSHINE VITAMIN☀️ Sun exposure is by far the best way to boost your vitamin D levels. Vitamin D deficiency is incredibly common, particularly in darker-skinned people. A vitamin D deficiency is usually easy to fix by simply eating more vitamin D rich foods, fatty fish, dairy products, and increasing your sun exposure! Midday is the best time to get vitamin D, as the sun is at its highest point and your body will absorb it most efficiently. Although sunlight is great for vitamin D, too much sunlight can be dangerous as well and can cause sunburn, eye damage, skin aging, heat stroke and skin cancer. So try to limit the time you spend exposed to direct sunlight, just 10-30 mins a day is sufficient enough! But if you're planning to stay in the sun for a while, it's best to apply sunscreen after 10-30 minutes to help prevent sunburn and skin cancer. Feb 28, 2019 SHOULDER STAND 🤸🏻 Shoulder stands don't just look impressive, they can also improve everything from your strength to your circulation * Known by many yogis as "the queen of all yoga poses," lifting into and holding a shoulder stand requires a lot of core strength along with upper body strength b It's a pretty advanced posture and can take time and patience to master. Inversions, like the shoulder stand, can reverse your blood flow so that when you stand back up, a fresh wave of blood shoots through your body!! It increases the range of motion and flexibility in your neck & shoulders and also requires strength in your legs and back muscles, so your entire body is engaged during this posture! Feb 13, 2019 FLYING CROW POSE 🐦‍⬛ Not quite the #flyingcrowpose, l'm actually doing a simplified variation of this pose with one knee resting on the ground instead of the arms So it's kind of a stepping stone to the flying crow pose (where you use the back of your arms as shelves for your knees and lean forward). This is a veryyyy difficult pose that defies gravity and requires extreme core strength in order to lift majority of your weight above your shoulders. So if you're like me, and still practicing on mastering this pose, you can modify it like I did in this pic!! Using a block placed under your feet prior to take off can help give the body a little extra height to make this pose easier to obtain. Blocks under the shoulders can also help balance the body while the arms work on building strength. The flying crow is an arm balance that looks scarier than it is to practice. It challenges you to focus on lifting versus falling. By supporting all your weight on your arms and hands, it requires you to face the fear of face-planting into the floor (so put a pillow in front of you while you practice!) Feb 2, 2019 FLEXITARIAN DIET 🍎 The flexitarian diet, also known as the "lazy vegetarian diet" LOL, is simply the combo of the two words - flexible and vegetarian. It's basically a more open approach to vegetarianism, so that you can still enjoy the benefits of loading up on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, without ditching animal products entirely. It's like a vegetarian-ish way of eating since it does carry the basic principles and benefits of a plant-based diet, along with the inclusion of some animal proteins. While vegetarians strictly consume foods such as tofu, quinoa, tons of produce, and other veggie-focused options, no foods are taken away or strictly forbidden to flexitarians. This diet is an easier alternative to going full vegan that still advocates actively decreasing meat consumption. Like its name, the diet is flexible!! But, there are some guidelines on how much meat you can eat. For example, it's suggested you consume only a card-deck-sized portion of chicken, pork or fish per meal, and although steak and beef are allowed, I chose to omit red meat COMPLETELY from my diet. Following even a semi-vegetarian diet can lower body weight compared to those who eat meat regularly, as well as lower incidences of metabolic disease and lower risk for type 2 diabetes - ALL health issues I'm currently combatting. Plus, a diet lower in animal products and higher in vegetables, fruits, legumes & grains is pretty easy to follow. YESSS, I did try going vegan for a bit, and I'm well aware of every last benefit going vegetarian has (it's better for the planet, better for your health and, of course, kinder to the animals, but the idea of saying good-bye to Thai chicken satay forever seemed too much of a sacrifice. With the flexitarian diet, it doesn't have to be all or nothing. Jan 27, 2019 FLEXIBILITY 🤸🏻 Seeing how flexible l've become in just a few months still BOGGLES my mind!! The last time I was able to do the splits I was in elementary school! Improving my flexibility produced such a wide range of physical benefits and had an enormous positive effect on my overall well-being. When you develop strength & flexibility in your body you'll be able to withstand a lot more physical stress and rid your body of any muscle imbalances, which will reduce your chance of getting injured. Working on stretching my body really opened up my muscles, and when my muscles are looser and less tense, I experience fewer aches and pains!! 6 6 6 Plus, the more flexibility you have, the less likely you'll experience muscle cramps during physical activities.I was stiff as a board when I first started yoga stretches, but the more I practiced, my flexibility dramatically improved. Using yoga props such as a ball, blocks & straps are a great way to help stretch your muscles gradually. So make sure to use them every day and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!! Regularly practicing poses (like the #frontsplits) will be difficult and even painful at first.
