🧡 My 3 go to techniques when I or my clients have been triggered or experience feelings of anxiety. 🧡 1. Triangular breathing. Breathe in for one side of a triangle and out for the other 2. Do that 2 or 3 times. For kids, I like to get them to draw the triangle on paper. Colour it in. Decorate it. Pop it on their wall at home and trace their eye around their triangle as they breathe. I always ask my clients to schedule time to practise this, so when the time comes that they could use it, they remember they have it. No point in having lovely calming techniques if you forget you have them. 🧡 2. Butterfly tapping. Create a butterfly with interlinked hands and tap gently on the chest … and breathe. Wonderfully calming and kids love this too. 🧡 3. Get mindful with a warm drink. Feel the warmth of the mug under your fingertips. Notice the steam. Take a sip and really taste it. Notice everything you can see, hear, feel, taste and smell in that moment. Let me know which of these is your favourite. Hello Hidden Pearls Fam! What a year it has been so far. We hope you all are well and staying present for all of the magic that is moving around us. This year has already brought some of our highest highs and our hardest lessons. It's a new week, and this quote from Deepak Chopra is the perfect reminder to start it off mindfully: "Mindfulness creates centered awareness. When you do one thing at a time, you're guaranteed excellent results. If you do too many things simultaneously, it messes up your neural circuits. Focus on one thing at a time." How often do we frazzle ourselves by trying to juggle too many tasks and distractions at once? We've been conditioned to see busyness as a badge of honor and multitasking as a prized skill. But Chopra's wisdom reveals the power in doing just one thing at a time with full, conscious presence. When we're mindfully engaged, we naturally work smarter and produce higher quality results. Mindlessness, on the other hand, leads to mistakes, lack of focus, and increased stress and anxiety. Not quite the recipe for a productive week! Mental illness is just that an “illness.”Try to think of your mental health the way you think about your physical health. We all experience ups and downs in our physical health. Some days you might feel a little sore, or tired, or sniffly. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re “sick.” Mental illness is the same way. The only difference is that instead of looking for physical symptoms, like a runny nose or an upset stomach, you’re looking at your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Life can be challenging, but every day shouldn’t feel hard or out of your control. If it does, there is help. It’s common to feel like no one understands what you’re going through, but reaching out can be the first step in improving your mental health. Loneliness can take a toll on your mental and physical health, and it’s important to find meaningful ways to connect with others. Being able to maintain good mental health is essential to each and every individual’s overall health and well-being. Mental health conditions are common, manageable, and treatable. It’s important to remember that working on your mental health takes time. Change won’t happen overnight. It’s Mental Health Awareness Month, so let’s talk about mental health! Mental Health America is proud to have founded in 1949 what is now known as Mental Health Month. Every May, we come together with millions of Americans to continue the tradition of promoting awareness, offering vital resources and education, and advocating for the mental health and well-being of everyone. This year’s theme for Mental Health Month is Where to Start: Mental Health in a Changing World. We all have mental health. Mental health is our ability to engage with our emotions, thoughts, interactions with others, and the world around us. Mental health affects how we think, feel, and act every day. The best way to protect mental health is to pay attention to it even when you’re feeling ok or even good. Just like with our physical health, we can do things that make us mentally healthier and happier. Creating positive habits is a great way to support your mental health. Mental health plays a big role in overall well-being. When you feel mentally well, you’re more able to enjoy life and the people in it, feel better about yourself, keep up with fulfilling relationships, and manage stress. Experiencing poor mental health is not the same as having a mental health condition. A mental health condition, or mental illness, refers to a set of symptoms that have been identified by a health provider. We all have tough days and weeks, and everyone manages their mental health every day. People with mental health conditions experience change in emotions, thinking, and/or behavior. For some, this means extreme and unexpected changes in mood, like feeling more sad or worried than usual. For others, it means not thinking clearly, pulling away from friends and activities you used to enjoy, or hearing voices that others do not. Mental illness is treatable; it is not always a permanent state of being. Mental Health America Screening provides a free, anonymous, quick, and easy way to determine whether a person is experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition.
