Cancer is something I’ve been studying and researching for a few years now. Brain cancer intrigued me because typically by the time one discovers it, the early warning signs were generally missed. Breathing is the most basic yet powerful tool we have for reducing anxiety in the moment. When stressed, we feel anxious, and our breathing becomes shallow and rapid. This heightens anxiety. Inhale (4 secs)-Hold (4 secs)-Exhale (4 secs) 2. Words. 🙏🏼Prayer offers peace and helps us stay grounded. Research has proven that faith reduces anxiety. Prayer helps us process painful situations and unexpected life events. 📓Journaling encourages the brain to process what is happening more carefully. 🗣️Share your feelings with someone you trust, who can offer a new perspective on your thoughts and feelings. 3. Pause. Pausing or physically leaving an intense situation is essential for reducing anxiety. Remember: what you allow is teaching others how they can treat you. 4. Grounding. Often children’s books about bodies or anything medical take quite a cold, remote, factual tone. They can be clinical (which is understandable), but lack warmth and personality. That means younger readers don’t engage beyond a cursory glance. Here’s a new book which definitely doesn’t fall into that trope. The Brilliant Brain: How It Works and How to Look After It @roopafarooki @violawangstudio @walkerbooksuk explores everything wonderful about the role our brains play. Centring personality and individuality, the book also gives information on how each part of the brain leads different senses and organs. I don’t like to put age recommendations on titles and this is a great example as to why; whilst the layout and language could pigeon hole this for younger readers, I think the tone and meaning here will work for those all the way through school. I found this one in my local @kentlibraries and Viola Wang’s illustrations drew me in. I’ve reviewed a couple of her other books which I adore (Rabbit Bright and Hello) so see those on my grid. Sugar and fat change the brain. However, one thing that you certainly can't imagine is also like that. Just take a look at the list of unprocessed foods. These almost never have the combination of fat and sugar and certainly not the combination of cheap fat and refined sugar in excess like many processed foods.
