A Few Words on Belladonna. When working with Belladonna in a non-blended form we really get how distinct each one of these plant’s personalities are and how when combined, the sum of their parts creates a new singular voice and personality much like many different instruments merge together to form the harmonious sound of a symphony. Belladonna is so soft and gentle in her approach (like the violins). It's common that I don’t notice her immediately, rather she gently creeps in and at some point I start being aware that I can feel her love throughout me. 🌿 In the Victorian era, a treatment for a woman’s monthly was cloth treated with belladonna and then inserted…it would have not only relieved cramping but also eased any emotional and/or irritability aspects that many women experience at this time as well. I market these truffles with the focus on the expansive work we can do with them, but that relaxation and stress reduction is real. The plant is considered invasive in most places and it grows and spreads rapidly once it gets its footing in an ecosystem. Mugwort is a lunar plant and is often used to induce vivid lucid dreams during sleep. Another use is to make mugwort tea and pour it into a dark bowl for scrying divination. Mostly known for its psychoactive effects when eaten by cats, catnip can also be used by humans as a tea or smoke. Catnip is also featured often in some witchcraft recipes. Catnip is easy to grow and once started it will grow prolifically. All around a wonderful and intriguing herb to keep in the garden, especially if you keep cats. Starting today I’m going to make a post everyday introducing a new herb I’m going to have in my garden this year. Presented in this post is Solomon’s Seal! These seeds have to experience a period of cold before they will germinate, so the next step is to throw them in a glass of water in the fridge for two weeks. Solomon’s Seal gets its name from the star that appears in the stem when the stalk and roots are cut and severed. Solomon’s Seal is primarily grown for the root’s magical and medicinal properties, but the stalks can be harvested and eaten as a meal like asparagus. Black cohosh (Actaea racemosa) also goes by black snakeroot. It’s one of my favorite woodland plans and a native of Western New York. These plans are literally on the edge of my parents yard bordering the forest and there are TONS of very mature plants.

Systems of belief concerning the medicinal, magical and spiritual uses of plant materials were well established in the lives of European forest, nomadic and ancient peoples. However, these beliefs were forcibly supplanted as pagan practices were displaced across Europe and other continents in the wake of Christianity and the rise of capitalism. The consequences of the suppression and attempted erasure of this plant-based belief system continue to be profound. Knowledge, often held by women, of the healing and spiritual effects of plants has been replaced by a significantly more limited emphasis on their predominantly aesthetic qualities. This separation informs our contemporary relationship to plants as being primarily one of commodification. The images in ‘i am an old phenomenon’ are part of the re-assemblage of fragments of this old knowledge and, in their ontology, invoke the persecution of wise women, witches and wortcunners who kept this knowledge safe but whose understanding of plants and their connection with reproduction, in particular, represented a threat to the new order. They naturally get around 10ft but I trim mine to encourage more aggressive growth, its 16ft right now, I've heard of some people getting theirs to reach over 22/23ft.tall. 🥬🍃🌱🍃🥬🌱🥦 Poke is believed to come the Algonquin and Powhatan word for "blood" and "dye". Root and seeds are the most toxic and berries are the least toxic. ☀️💙☀️💙☀️💙☀️ The poisons build up over the season those are mostly Oxalic acid, Saponins and alkaloids. The pokeweed in the video is NOT edible even after cooking. The rest of the photos are safe after proper preparation. Let's talk Aloe Vera. Aloe, although great for physical burns, rashes, and dry skin, has magical properties related to luck and protection. It is a common household plant and of desert origin, so taking care of one isn't too difficult. In Mexico, the peoples would spin together aloe and other ingredients for a wreath of luck, fortune, wealth, and protection. . Uses: . Making a salve can relieve burns, dry skin, and mild skin irritations and protect you from future harm in such manner. . Watering is dependent on the humidity of your location but watering a little (no more than a couple tablespoons) each week helps make it thrive. It is very close to a succulent and if you've cared for them before, you know that too much water is as damaging, if not more so, than not watering at all. . Datura inoxia pods are just about the coolest seed pods there are. I love it every single time I get them. Added a layer of chick grit (crushed granite) to the top of the peat pellets that have Mandrake seeds in them. Peat is acidic and Mandrake likes it more chalky.
