One of my very first formulations when I first began studying herbalism over a decade ago was creating a balm for pain relief. Through a bit of trial and error I created this citrus bright blend and it works wonderfully well. I've not made it in such a long time but made some for the fair we did this past weekend and it's as good as I remember. . What an incredible Beltaine. Camping in the Pentlands with incredible Kin, after an intense Ritual, we looked up to discover the Northern Lights had descended upon us, a phenomenon that I've always wanted to witness. In the hills in the middle of nowhere, the light pollution was non existent, and we got to see the lights in all their glory, the swirls of explosive colour enveloped the night sky with the only light on the land being our Balefire. Åmanden. In Danish folklore, there exists a water spirit called Åmanden (å=creek or river. Manden=man, so maybe riverman is the right translation to english). He looks like a man, but he has more green like skin, and he has a violin that he plays on to lure humans into the river. This spirit protects the creeks, rivers, and lakes, and it's said that there is more than one åmand in Denmark. But there's a price with the protection is a sacrifice once a year. A human sacrifice. The spirit will scream, "The time has come! But the man isn't here!" Shortly after it's known that a person drowns, it's told that the spirit forces a human into the river to drown the person. Hoje é dia de São Jorge e curiosamente, um momento interessante para falarmos um pouco da sua relação com a Bruxaria Tradicional. Quer dizer que o cultuamos? Claro que não, não cultuamos ninguém por se assim dizer. Mas vamos lá… A data acontece sob a regência de touro, um signo de terra regido por Vênus. O símbolo de touro, a cabeça e os chifres são encontrados na cabeça do dragão. Basta ver este símbolo dentro de um contexto oculto e surge a imagem de um deus touro com chifres e assim, podemos ver imediatamente que São Jorge tem um lugar significativo na tradição astrológica, ligando-o a algumas correspondências mitológicas significativas, frequentemente associadas à Bruxaria Tradicional. Se examinarmos isso com mais detalhes, descobriremos que Vênus era a consorte de Vulcano, o coxo deus ferreiro do fogo. Através desta conexão, Vulcano foi comparado com Tubal-Caim, o descendente do bíblico Caim e uma divindade ferreira quenita. Michael Howard e Nigel Jackson identificam a imagem de São Jorge na Capela Rosslyn, na Escócia, com o símbolo de uma rosa, uma flor com grande apelo luciferiano. Ela é o emblema de Vênus e Ishtar e o símbolo da linhagem descendente dos Vigilantes, os anjos caídos retradado no livro de Enoch. It’s true! I am that very witch! I don’t like winter. It gets easier each and every year though. I take this time to connect with my Ancestors, and to connect with the Land and its inhospitable aspects that still have so much to give if we can just reach out. My Ancestors spent a good chunk of the year in the woods, chopping wood, trading fur, and living off the land. Through my work with the Winter Mother, each Winter becomes a time of deep contemplation and research, as well as a time to experiment with fermentation, preservation, and of course, sorcery. I also learn about various crafts that kept my Ancestors prosperous, and those which marked my region. I call on the Winter Mother in the dark half of the year for protection against the cold, against illness, and especially against strife. For service workers like myself, now as much as back when I was a server, Winter means less cashflow as soon as the New Year comes to pass. It's only in the last few years that food scarcity has stopped being a problem for me; I grew up a child of bankruptcy, and I went off on my own when I was way too young to understand the complexities of running a budget. On top of that, even though I'm usually blessed with an immune system made of pure steel, stress does me in faster than I have time to react. My goal in formulating this Oil of the Winter Mother was to bring abundance in times of difficulty, protection against the dangers of cold, and against the loss of time. To protect especially against illness and its potential effect on finances. To celebrate reunions, feasts, and packing on a little fat for the months to come. To honour the domestic arts and the lives of our Ancestors who worked until they were crooked and knotty so that we may come into this world with abundance and prosperity. I’ve been using this way of fixing florida water for over a year. I originally developed it to feed a St Lazarus charm purchased from a vodouissant in Montréal. This water can be used like regular Florida water, to cleanse and clean, but it can also be used in uncrossing rituals and to open roads. For these latter uses I like to draw crosses on the back of my neck, or to sprinkle crosses of the water at each fork of a crossroads while praying to Saint Lazarus to open my roads towards a specific goal. You can also put it in a dish and set it on fire — with safety in mind, of course! This specific bottle was prepared on the feast of St Lazarus, but it can be done at any time. It was made in preparation for our community uncrossing ritual coming up in January. This ritual is available only to Patreon members of the Haw-Thorn tier, who benefit from a monthly community ritual performed on their behalf. Write out and pray Psalm 94. Anoint it with Mercury’s Open Roads oil, and put it in your bottle of Florida water. Add lemongrass and frankincense tears, as well as a few drops of holy water — I am using St Petka holy water here, but anything works. Add also a few drops of open roads oil. This done, shake vigorously and pray an Our Father, three Hail Marys, and Psalm 23 over the bottle. Let it sit for at least three days before using. Sprinkle in a space to cleanse it, or use it to wash candles, tools, and other items in need of cleansing. Wash your hands with it before and after malefic work. Anoint the neck along with Décroisé uncrossing oil for uncrossing purposes. Sprinkle at crossroads as offerings to the spirits. Working by the Moon is an age-old practice that involves observing the Moon in its various phases and signs to know when to plant seeds, harvest plant material, and till the soil. Plants like Henbane, Belladonna, and Mandrake, that require cold stratification, typically benefit from being planted on the Winter Solstice and left outside through winter and spring. In my experience, this does not have to follow the precise date of the solstice, and can be done at any point between Yule and Epiphany. We were blessed with a full Moon in Cancer on the 26th, which made it an especially auspicious time to plant. As the Moon’s domicile, Cancer brings the strongest blessings of fertility and abundance. I employed my Henbane Alraune to bless these Henbane seeds so that they may grow strong in the Spring. Seven pots in total, for the Seven Sisters which they serve to draw down. Three seedling from each will be given a home, making 21 in total. Some will be for root, some will be for seed. I plan to keep a major portion of this harvest and to make Henbane root fetishes available in the Fall. Are you planting anything this Yuletide? This time between Yule and Epiphany are always some of the hardest for me, both emotionally and magically. This is the depth of the Winter, when the Sun rises for a mere third of the day, and is most often obscured by clouds, rain, and snow. Magically, this is a time when the Dead return, when the Wild Hunt rides and sows discord and danger, and when vampiric shades haunt the night. It’s a particularly busy time dealing with evil spirits that wish to sneak into the home, and the general stress of the populace which creates miasma and small curses everywhere. Client work is always a bit more intense this time of year as well. But there is beauty in it, as in all things — I’ve been planting seeds for my family’s garden, including Henbane and Borage. I’ve been working spells of protection and success to usher in the new year. The Winter Mother has been keeping the house warm and protected, despite the shades and spirits lingering outside the windows when night comes. I try to perform a Crown of Success working each and every month. This is a practice I would recommend to everyone. I find it important to include a component of road-opening to Crown of Success workings so that our change of stations and our success can manifest in actionable opportunity. Here I’m using our Mercury’s Open Roads dressing dust, elected under Mercury in Gemini, along with Pognon Money-Drawing oil and our soon restocked triple-infused Crown of Success oil. You can burn this spell on top of a picture of yourself, on top of your name, or on top of a business card, which is the method I like to use. Herbal allies I love for this kind of work include Lemon Balm, Frankincense, Laurel, Pine, and High John the Conqueror root. I usually recommend working this kind of spell on a Sunday in the hour of the Sun, accompanied with the 3rd Pentacle of the same, or when the Moon is in her Mansion of Al-Dhira which brings wealth and stature. I will be performing a Crown of Success community working in the month of March for patrons of the Haw-Thorn tier. We will begin with an Uncrossing working in January, followed by a Fiery Wall of Protection in February, to set ourselves up to draw long-term success in March. Ooooh my clients are not the ones to f with!! Always love performing skull domination workings using Bow Down oil. These skulls are worked for dominating an enemy or a rival, especially in cases of abuse or of legal procedures. The head is carved from clay or wax, and filled with the target’s information along with cotton and herbs for domination and confusion. This is soaked with Bow Down and closed up before the working is done. I always give my querents the option of having this loaded skull sent to them so they can perform their own magic on it when needed, or to keep the skull on retainer so I can perform more work on their behalf in the future. Sereias ou sirenas? As sirenas são criaturas mitológicas cujas origens as descrevem como mulheres-pássaros, mas foram transformadas em mulheres-peixes. Em primeiro lugar, as sirenas são criaturas que envolvem relatos de mulheres com corpo semelhante a pássaros. No geral, as histórias a respeito delas as envolvem em acidentes marítimos, onde embarcações de marinheiros se perdiam no mar. Contudo, a Idade Média as transformou em mulheres com corpos de peixes, adicionando outras características. Sendo assim, é comum que haja uma comparação com as sereias, numa concepção moderna. Entretanto, no que diz respeito à mitologia grega existe uma diferença entre elas, sobretudo pela formação do corpo. Desse modo, as sirenas são inicialmente representadas como mulheres-pássaros e sereias como mulheres-peixes. PS: esse desenho é de anos atrás e fui eu que fez. Ilustrar é uma das coisas que eu mais amo fazer desde que eu era criança, como um passatempo porque não rolou enquanto profissão, acredito eu que algumas coisas foram feitas para pertencerem em um determinado local na nossa vida.
Some of you who know me longer may know that I'm an absolute rosary whore. Rosary is one of the most used tools in my craft -- especially in its folk heretical rendition. I've been meaning to offer a deep dive into this for a while. Hence, "Workshopping the Art of Prayer" is the theme that we're currently diving into in our Toad Pond group -- this will be ongoing until the second Saturday of May. This is specifically geared towards an upcoming offering of mine (to be anounced) which will require familiarity with the art of prayer & the use of prayer beads to participate. For this purpose, I dropped an hour long workshop/lecture diving into the nitty gritty of traditional prayer, examples of well known folk prayers used in magic, heretical prayer & psalmistry, as well as ways to alter and create one's own prayers. The end goal is for participants to curate their own set of prayers tailored to the parameters of their personal practice. 🪴 First on the Poison Plant posts is Hellebore! Also known as helleborus, is apart of the Ranunculceae (buttercup) family of plants. All parts of this plant are poisonous, containing glycosides, saponins and many more. The consumption of this plant can lead to cardiac distress and renal failure if not treated immediately. Hellebore is stunningly beautiful, ranging in colours from white to purple to black and is often found in unsuspecting in gardens as a result of this. It comes under the rulership of Mars and Saturn. Within witchcraft, hellebore is rumoured to be one of the ingredients in a flying ointment- allowing witches to achieve spirit flight when applied. Animals in witchcraft – a few years ago I “rebooted” my account with the idea of focusing on posting photos capturing the aesthetics and moments of my practice in witchcraft. I quickly found myself posting photos of the animals (and other living organisms) that make up my daily life and routine because, well, it fit. A part of me often feels like I'm “the witch” to my friends and acquaintances within my animal keeping circles and “the one who has several pets” to those in my esoteric-oriented circles, but truth is I see these two aspects of my person melting into each other and becoming inseparable. The spirits of wild animals cannot be taken out of anyone's magical practice – they are the spirits of the land, aspects and messengers of the deities, carriers of omens, porters of significant virtues, the stars of folk tales and beliefs… in a way, keeping certain species I have an affinity towards is highly ritualistic by doing my design an environment they will be most comfortable in, offering them food daily (in most cases), watching them and learning not only about but also from them, and in some cases allowing them to and helping them procreate and propagate their species. There is a valid concern when people seek to keep animals in captivity merely based off what they perceive as spiritual affinity or admiration – it raises red flags because they will often forget to ground such feelings in the “mundane”, and their passion isn’t as ardent when it comes to learning about their biology, truly, deeply understanding their roles and needs and how they intertwine and interact with their environment and place in the world. But when such curiosity and true understanding is present and mingles with an openness to the animals' energy and subtle virtues, a most beautiful tapestry is woven. I love seeing witches find and nurture a connection with animals, whether they find in them a face of a deity or patron they are devoted to (as I do in ungulates), an aspect of the Earth and its magic (like I do with amphibians), personal relatability (as is my case with birds, owls in particular)… I highly encourage anyone who finds this to dive deep and nurture this bond.
This is what altar sometimes looks like. We are used to seeing beautiful displays, full of statues and candles, this is not how every altar looks like. I live in a dorm and only started to form my altar, but it will never be this amazing, mysterious altar and it's okay.
