🍖 Tourtière: French-Canadian Meat Pie 🇨🇦 Ingredients: 1 pound ground pork 1 pound ground beef 1 onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 teaspoon dried thyme 1 teaspoon dried sage 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 1 cup chicken broth 2 pie crusts Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). 2. In a large skillet, brown the pork and beef over medium heat. Drain off any excess fat. 3. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened. 4. Stir in the thyme, sage, salt, and pepper. 5. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer. 6. Reduce heat to low and cook for 15 minutes, or until the liquid has almost completely evaporated. 7. Pour the meat mixture into a 9-inch pie plate. 8. Top with one of the pie crusts and trim the edges. 9. Crimp the edges to seal. 10. Cut a few slits in the top of the crust to allow steam to escape. 11. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. French Canadian Tourtière Ingredients: 1 pound ground beef 1 large onion, finely chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg Salt and pepper to taste 1 cup water 2 cups mashed potatoes 2 (9 inch) unbaked pie crusts Directions: In a large skillet over medium heat, ground beef, onion, and garlic until the meat is browned and the onion is tender. Drain off any excess grease. Stir in the ground cinnamon, ground cloves, ground allspice, ground nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Add the water and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a 9-inch pie plate with one of the pie crusts. Spoon the meat mixture into the crust. Spread the mashed potatoes over the meat mixture. Cover with the second pie crust, crimping the edges to seal. Cut a few slits in the top crust to vent steam. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. I know sometimes it can get discouraging to post content and not see the results we hoped for. Even though we are happy and grateful for every one of the people we connect with here and who support us, we feel like our engagement is not very high, or our account is not growing as we would hope it would or our Reels don't get the views we wished for... I really, truly believe the important thing is that creating and sharing content is a way to let our artistic side be out and creative. Three #statues that i passed by during my trip to #hearst in Northern #Ontario. 1. #Porquis_Junction, Ontario, #Canada: #Guy_Paul _Treefall Standing 20 feet tall, an axe at his side, Guy-Paul Treefall — nicknamed “The Storyteller” or in French, “Le Raconteur” — is a massive lumberjack beckoning tourists into the small paper mill town. Along with a new log cabin-esque Artisan and Craft Display and Information Centre, the lumberjack is a tie to Iroquois Falls’ forestry history, which is the reason for the town’s existence. The sculpture was crafted by artist Denys Heppell from Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, #Quebec. 2. #Memorial_Parc_Hearst On March 20, 2009, Trooper Jack Bouthiller of Hearst was killed in action while serving in Afghanistan. His death shocked every Norther Ontario community, arousing compassion and a sense of solidarity amongst residents. War is largely unkrown to our younger genefation, but it has how touched thent painfully. Local artist #Real_Gagnon was inspired to commemorate this young trooper and to honour all of our local soldiers who have fallen In the name of freedom; for they are too often forgotten This memorial was constructed and financed by donations and vofunteer work. I usually don't say this but i was crying with joy in the morning photo walk i did by myself. I was listening to the amazing grace back piper version and i kind of felt I was marching with my camera while I was leaving the parc to go to work. Hearty French Canadian Tourtière Ingredients: - 1 pound ground beef - 1 onion, finely chopped - 2 cloves garlic, minced - 1 teaspoon dried thyme - 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon - 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves - 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg - Salt and pepper to taste - 1/2 cup beef broth - 1/2 cup breadcrumbs - 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade) - 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash) Directions: 1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). 2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. 3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. 4. Stir in the dried thyme, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, ground nutmeg, salt, and pepper. 5. Pour in the beef broth and simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. 6. Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the breadcrumbs until well combined. 7. Roll out one pie crust and line a 9-inch pie dish with it. 8. Spoon the meat mixture into the pie crust, spreading it out evenly. 9. Place the second pie crust over the filling. Trim any excess crust and crimp the edges to seal. 10. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. 11. Brush the top crust with beaten egg for a golden finish. 12.
