#Halloween at @solastobann The night of the Festival of Samhain - Oiche Shamhna is upon us! At sundown the Celtic New Year began! It is a period of liminality when the veil between this world and the realm of the Dead is most thin and facilitates communication with the Spirit world. It is a time to honor our dead and contemplate the Circle of Life. It is Summers end, the last harvest and the beginning of the Spiritual New Year. To mark the date we went for a relatively quiet dinner and wee local drive to appreciate the extraordinary Nature all around us. I decorated our home, though not with the prettiest autumn leaves as I've done every year for years - the wind here has carried them away - but with pretty ethereal lights. I give Thanks for the abundance in all its forms in our lives, I lit candles - one to honor those family members who have passed over and one in the window to guide the dead to the Spirit World. Samhain, or “the witches new year”, is the festival that celebrates the transition of the lighter half of the year, into the darkest half of the year. It literally means “summers end”. This time of the year can often feel very dark, lonely and full of death. In a way, it is. The earth beneath us is literally dying. As the energy and life force of the planet dies back into the roots of the earth, it almost sucks in this energy from the other world. This is where Halloween & the day of the dead comes from. The idea that the veil between our world and the other world is thinner at this time of year. In a way, this energy from the other world starts to come into our world in a really profound way. Maybe making us feel sad, anxious and lonely. I think this is a very natural way to be feeling. Death is a part of life that is inescapable and is one of the hardest things we have to deal with. At this time, some people may decide to call in their ancestors for help and guidance. Some might leave offerings for the dead. For some people, it’s also a good time to do protection rituals. For others, it’s a good time to set new goals in place. As everything dies around us, it also clears up space for new life to come into fruition. Samhain starts at dusk on October 31st, because in traditional beliefs, a new day was thought to start when the sun went down. As all births do, beginnings are often dark and slowly come into the light. So if you’re feeling like you’re in a dark, raw energy state - it only means it’s the beginning. It is a time where we honor the dead, protect the living, and petition the spirits for wisdom and prediction. 🌹 This is a time to honor your ancestors and the recently deceased, protect yourself and your home, turn to divination to seek answers, reflect on the year that has passed, and set your sights on the year to come. It is believed that the veil between the physical world and the spiritual (or “other”) world is at its thinnest. Arriving back in Jersey today after a few days in Edinburgh at the magnificent @rbgedinburgh making an Elderberry Rob, and a Marsh woundwort salve among other herbal practices, I stopped at a favourite place in rural St. Lawrence. I love this turn of the year, when the leaves are crisp on the ground, and mushrooms are popping up all over the place. The magic of the season, tapping into the essence of Samhain, or summer’s end. A time to reflect, remember times past, loved ones no longer here, as well as ancestors who nurtured the land, coming back to being. I miss the trick or treating, of times filling baskets of goodies, dressing up in witches’ hats and cloaks, wandering the dark country lanes with my children and their friends. Here’s a simple powerful ceremony for you: This time of year is the Celtic New Year as this celebration of Ancestry, death and transition is the true beginning of life according to Celtic belief, as well as the beliefs of other indigenous cultures. That makes for a great night to have a fire, honor and communicate with your ancestors and write down what you wish to burn away from last year and then burn it in the fire with gratitude for what your challenges has taught you. Then write down on another paper what you will manifest in your life this year. Pray, express gratitude for what you do have and then burn that paper on the fire as well feeling as if your prayers have already manifested. If a fire is not an option for you light a candle, do the same steps but go outside with matches or lighter to burn the papers.

HALLOWEEN TIME AGAIN It never ceases to amaze me how quick time passes, halloween🎃 is here again.It is the beginning of our Celtic new year. Samhain origins is a pagan celebration that continues in these lands and much further afield, giving thanks to the bounty we have harvested, as well remembering our ancestors as veil is thin at this time of year. It has transitioned in modern western society as halloween, where children and adults alike get to dress up, go trick or treating in their community, enjoying the celebration and the festivities 🥳 We are lucky enough here in Galway, Ireland to enjoy the famous “Macnas Parade”, where people come from far and wide, it is always a show stopper, their artistic creativity is a spectacle with moody evocative themes. As we are in the peak of full moon lunar eclipse at moment, there is a big portal open at this time, where the intensity has been building for quiet a while now, this is a great time for releasing what no longer works for us, as our own vibration and the vibration of planet earth itself is rising in quantum leaps, indeed it is difficult to stay grounded at this time. Old ancient wounds are rising to the surface to be cleared and healed, eg. our belief system may be outdated for today’s society, so we have the opportunity to make quantum leaps at this time in our enlightenment and with the evolution of what it means to be human in todays age. Despite the unrest in the world today, the modus operandi to keep us disconnected and divided, in the bigger picture for the first time in human history of earth, we are dividing as a society, where some of us are transitioning into more light and spiritual beings, our consciousness expanding, moving towards a “New Earth”. V předvečer svátku Všech svatých se slaví keltský svátek Samhain, který představuje nejvýznamnější den roku. 1.11.začíná keltský Nový rok. Právě za dnešní noci se prolíná svět živých a svět mrtvých💀... Duše mrtvých se mohou na jeden večer vrátit zpět na zem..Běžně zákony všedního dne neplatí... Keltové veřili, že se zjevují duchové, strašidla, čarodejnice a lomcují okenicemi a žádají o dárky... Smrtelníci mohou v tento magický den vykládat budoucnost nebo se ptát mrtvých na radu. Dříve se za pohanských časů hrála orákula a hádanky s jablky a ořechy🍎🌰-klasický pokrm mrtvých. Důležitý symbol Samhainu byl oheň, ve kterém se pálila slaměná panenka, která představovala lidské chyby a omyly. Duším zemřelých se podél cest rozsvěcovaly svíčky vložené do vydlabaného tuřínu🎃... Ochranné světlo bylo umístěno u zadní časti domů, aby zemřelí nemohli uškodit.. Veřilo se, že dobrý přijde zepředu, špatný za zády... What is Samhain? Samhain is the festival that is celebrated on October 31st to November the 1st, and is the celebratory origin to Halloween. Samhain was first observed by Celtic pagans, and this festival marks the Celtic New Year, end of summer and the start of the harvest season. It also signals the beginnings and the dark half of winter which they associate with death, as nature is dying and the world is falling asleep, the cycle of summer is over and a new one is beginning. On this day, the 31st of October, the celts believed that the veil between the physical world and the spiritual world is at its thinnest, which allows spirits to cross between realms and visit us. As Halloween is the one night of the year where spirits roamed the earth, to avoid evil spirits people would outsmart them by dressing up with masks so that the spirits would believe they were fellow spirits and leave them alone. During Samhain and Halloween the veil between worlds is thinner. A time when it is easier to contact and receive messages from those that have passed over the threshold of life and death. It is a time to honor the dead and to offer respect to our ancestors. If you feel inspired, make an altar. Here are a few ideas for your altar... Fallen branches and leaves mark the seasonal change. Candles light the way. Acorns hold the memory of those who have passed. Seeds are for what is to come. Gourds represent new life. Pumpkins provide protection. Rosemary is for remembrance. Items that remind you of or evoke your ancestors, family, friends, or pets that have passed on. As we move through this seasonal transition, today marks that the harvest season is over. We are moving towards the death, darkness, and stillness of winter. Just as the plants are letting go of their leaves and fruits, it is also an opportunity to lay down and put to rest whatever you have been carrying. What is not needed that can be let go of? Let it go, let it compost. With trust it will transform. To honor this letting go you may enjoy a write and burn practice. On a piece of paper write all you want to lay down, release, or let go. Samhain markiert den Beginn der dunklen Jahreszeit und hat tiefgehende spirituelle Wurzeln. Das ursprünglich keltische Erntefest, ist heute ein Symbol des Übergangs, der Ahnenverehrung und der Reflexion. Es fällt auf den 31. Oktober und den 1. November. Vermutlich ist auch das amerikanische Halloween eine Ableitung aus dem Samhain. And that is what Samhain represents—our descent into death. This is not a time to bound forward in outward journey and achievement, but a time where we are urged to go inward—honoring the darkness that cloaks this night. 🖤 As one of the most famous Celtic festivals (thanks due to its modern ancestor, Halloween), Samhain is steeped in history and old tradition. It is a time where we honor the dead, protect the living, and petition the spirits for wisdom and prediction. 🌹 This is a time to honor your ancestors and the recently deceased, protect yourself and your home, turn to divination to seek answers, reflect on the year that has passed, and set your sights on the year to come. 🕯️ Create an ancestral altar: honor the dead with an altar decorated with pictures of the passed, family heirlooms, candles, and offerings of food and incense. 🗝️Participate in a Dumb Supper: the tradition of a Dumb Supper is one that goes back centuries. It is a dinner held in complete silence, with an extra table setting (complete with food and drink) left out for the dead to join. 🌜Practice divination: whether you prefer tarot cards, rune reading, scrying, bone casting, using a pendulum, or perhaps prefer a more traditional folk method (barmbrack, apple peeling, fire gazing, egg cracking, and more). 🔥 Light a fire for protection: join a community bonfire on this night, or simply light a candle (or jack-o’-lantern) by a window or a door. 🍂Lay out offerings for the spirits: many consider it good luck to lay offerings out for the spirits that roam the lands on this liminal night.
