It's common for ts to feel super weird at first. A lot of people feel like they look crazy honoring their ancestors like this. But if it's any consolation, more people are doing all of this than you think and a vast majority of them are feeling the exact say way lmao Still, the pros outweigh the cons. The more you honor your ancestors, the better they can make your life. The closer you can get to both them and your living family. And it's not like you have to do this all the time. Like once a month is gucci. It's okay too if you don't know what your peoples liked to eat. Plenty of people are adopted or just otherwise estranged from their family. Just make something you know you make well. You'll know if they like it or not by how it looks the following day. If it's dried out but not moldy or anything, they enjoyed it ! If it's dry and moldy, a negative spirit had a feast w it. If it's wet/juicy and moldy, there's just way too much negative energy in your home and your peoples can't even get to it. I sat across from a French man enjoying a conversation, when suddenly he paused and casualy said to me, "You are a witch," just like that. Here I was in a beach town in Costa Rica, living my best life, and here, a random stranger so clearly saw me. . He was so matter of fact about it, it honestly threw me off a bit. I realized when I was showing my authentic self naturally to the world, the world responded. I no longer felt the need to explain my magic, I was just magic. Some would see it, and others wouldn't. But the effort to be seen started to shrink. . Fast forward many years later, when I was living in Cusco. Local friends would call me La Brujita. Meaning little witch. Even if we didn't speak the same language, they saw me. I was so proud I wasn't hiding my spirituality and connection to the unseen. I no longer compartmentalize how I showed up. . Many of us come from ancestors who knew how magical we are. Who walked a path, usltilizing it for good. And at times, it was unsafe to own it, to be it, to openly show it. . Exactly 1 year ago today, close family & friends got together at my house on Earth Day to celebrate the life of my Mom. The house was filled with bouquets and bouquets of various flowers. Most of the family were out-of-towners, and my Ma loved giving goodie bags (something HER mother always did), so my Pittsburgh fam received a “best of Philly” basket. Just a nod to the fact that there can only be one alpha city in Pennsylvania 🤌🏼 Everyone else received little packets of seed starters to take home and grow their own Forget-Me-Not flowers in her honor. Anyway, we purchased a Ruby Falls Weeping Redbud, native to my area, and planted it along with some of her ashes. She stands proudly next to our Goddess of Spring statue, Persephone (previous owners left her there for us). And next to Ruby is a Bleeding Heart plant (her Mother/my Grandmother’s favorite). To my relief, they are both still alive today. How awkward would THAT have been?! Let Earth Day be a reminder that all life forms are precious (except for bugs & possums). Don’t wait until it’s too late to nurture those that gave you life, and those that gave life before them. “My Reiki Journey” About 15 years ago I started my Reiki Journey. I knew I needed healing and answers. As an adopted person I had questions about my Ancestral Roots and Epigenetic History. At the time I had no idea about the science of epigenetics, but I could feel deep inside of me, the pain and stories of my ancestors. Healing starts at the roots. Today is my Papi’s birthday. He would’ve been 98. It’s been almost 7 years since he left us. As many of you probably understand, it’s hard to believe how much time has gone by. And every year that goes by, the reality of life without him sinks in in a different way. This morning, I was wishing I could see him one last time. Hug him. Ask him some important questions, ask for his support. Grief and loss are so hard! My dad was not a perfect man, but he was a good person who suffered a lot in his life. From an impoverished childhood in El Salvador, being forced to participate in cartel contaminated work, which made him finalize his decision to bring us to the US. He then went from top management to becoming a janitor to support us. I can’t imagine what it was like to be in his shoes. But he loved us so much and he wanted nothing more than for us to do better and push for bigger things. He encouraged education and passed down his entrepreneurial spirit. But mostly, he shared his strong work ethic, his desire to help others and do good in the world, and to live with integrity. I’ll forever be grateful for having him as my dad. These Celtic Saining bars are not for everyone. I love sea salt bars for long, hot shower meditations and how well they seem to clear old energy, or even just energy that's not mine. I set out to make a smoke cleansing type collection of soaps and this first one is a Celtic Saining Smoke Cleansing Soap. The ancient Celts burned juniper branches as part of a Smoke Cleansing ritual called Saining and this bar of soap is perfect for the Celtic descendant that wants to do saining but has no juniper branches or can't do it for other reasons. This Soap is full of fine sea salt and pink Himalayan salt and contains cade essential oil which is the essential oil of burnt juniper wood. This soap literally smells like a juniper campfire and pretty much nothing else. There may be some hints of juniper, cedar, and lavender, but the predominant note is SMOKE. One day I was in Balogun and visited an indigenous peoples museum Strong feeling to visit this museum and walk around, admire the jewelry, pipes, drums of those connected so strongly to earth and spirit. A remembrance of some sorts.. a deeper familiarity.. connection.. recognition. And this was not even in their presence. For they still exist. Just further in the country. My face jewelry was in my mind to do for some time. And it came during temazcal .. remembrance. I remember I left not the same. For a song in my soul remembered my ancestors and they arose in me. I got these around then. (These rings however I got on this return trip to Africa I had to go here to get then as i imagined) And in the museum I saw many of the tribes, had women with piercings like this. The joy I felt from deep within. <3 Looking forward to the day. May we stay connected to the divine without the opinion of others. Honor your ancestors. This picture stays by my stove as my grandmother taught me how to budget and cook the basics; broths, soups, sweetbreads, bread puddings. Although, she was master of homemade lemon meringue and key lime pies as we had our own lemon and key lime trees to pick. I learned early that citrus zest refreshes the body, mind and spirit. Every week I clean their altar space and give them fresh flowers and I thank them every time I cook. I went to replace the frame ( to something more valuable and more fitting of the caliber of people they were) and took it apart to measure the photo exactly. At the back of the photo were two of the seashell pattered napkins my grandmother used. She'd carefully folded them to pad the photo in the frame. I teared up as I discovered these. Unfolded them and carefully refolded and replaced them back in the frame. The frame stays as do her napkins. Remember your ancestors. Give them fresh water, food, flowers, perfume and incense. 🦋🦋🦋 Beautiful shoot with two amazing Chinese women @bixuanguo & @igrien. 🇨🇳 This shoot was special to all of us. It was all about honoring our ancestors, our heritage and our Chinese culture. We did different looks and we loved involving parts of our culture and our roots. With this look, I got inspired by my Auntie’s old photos of her in Chinese opera makeup and my grandfather’s love for Chinese opera. When I was a kid, I spend many times with him watching it together. When I first heard about ancestors I automatically thought it was just my grandparents and great grands. I immediately shut it down. I was like nope nope. One of them was a drunk and abusive, one walked away from the family, lots of lies and mistrust there. I didn’t want to be connected with them. Over the years, truth was revealed. I learned that it’s grandparents on top of grandparents til the beginning of time that are my ancestors. They are within me and I can tap in through meditation. My last grandparent transitioned last month and she was called the tree shaker because she made sure every one knew who their people were. It’s important to honor our ancestors who because they paved the way for us to be here. One thing I continue to do on Sundays is listen to gospel, pray and read my Bible.
