It’s almost fall, which means cold and flu season is also around the corner. Whenever I am feeling something coming on or just feeling off, my go-to is making a jar full of ginger shots! This shot is not only a wonderful way to boost the immune system, but it also aids in digestion and is full of anti-inflammatory properties. It may have a kick, but trust me, the effect it has on your body is absolutely worth it! And even under the spice, it is actually very flavorful. Here is what you’ll need! Ingredients: - lots of fresh ginger - 1-2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar - 2 tablespoons of raw honey - A generous amount of cayenne powder - Optional: a few pieces of fresh turmeric There’s two ways you can make it: Using a juicer, like I did in the video or using a blender. If using a JUICER: - Cut up the ginger. Run ginger (and chopped turmeric if using) through the juicer until your jar is filled up. I like to run the pulp through again to make sure I got all the juice out. - In the jar, combine the ginger juice, apple cider vinegar, raw honey, and cayenne pepper. - Stir it all up and take a shot! If using a BLENDER: - In a blender, add the chopped ginger and turmeric if using. - Add some of water to help with blending, just enough to get the ginger to blend smooth. - Strain the ginger juice using a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove any pulp. - Then pour the ginger juice into a jar and add apple cider vinegar, raw honey, and cayenne pepper. Stir it all up and enjoy! And there you have it friends! Give it a try and let me know how it makes you feel down below. Cheers! It’s almost fall, which means cold and flu season is also around the corner. Whenever I am feeling something coming on or just feeling off, my go-to is making a jar full of ginger shots! This shot is not only a wonderful way to boost the immune system, but it also aids in digestion and is full of anti-inflammatory properties. It may have a kick, but trust me, the effect it has on your body is absolutely worth it! And even under the spice, it is actually very flavorful. Here is what you’ll need! Ingredients: - lots of fresh ginger - 1-2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar - 2 tablespoons of raw honey - A generous amount of cayenne powder - Optional: a few pieces of fresh turmeric There’s two ways you can make it: Using a juicer, like I did in the video or using a blender. If using a JUICER: - Cut up the ginger. Run ginger (and chopped turmeric if using) through the juicer until your jar is filled up. I like to run the pulp through again to make sure I got all the juice out. - In the jar, combine the ginger juice, apple cider vinegar, raw honey, and cayenne pepper. - Stir it all up and take a shot! If using a BLENDER: - In a blender, add the chopped ginger and turmeric if using. - Add some of water to help with blending, just enough to get the ginger to blend smooth. - Strain the ginger juice using a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove any pulp. - Then pour the ginger juice into a jar and add apple cider vinegar, raw honey, and cayenne pepper. But there’s one thing I hate about fall: it’s the beginning of cold and flu season. Ever since having Hudson, I hate cold and flu season. Babies with Down syndrome have smaller and more narrow airways. Their airways also tend to be “floppier” or less rigid because of low muscle tone. These characteristics make it harder for them to remove excess snot and fluid build up when they are sick. Add that to the fact that babies can ONLY breathe out of their nose for the first year of life and a typical cold virus can cause big problems. Thankfully, this year we are better prepared for the cold and flu season because we’ve discovered the Nozebot. The Nozebot is a nasal aspirator that has hospital-grade suction, is easy to use and even easier to clean. It’s chargeable which makes it perfect for traveling or being on-the-go. AND it’s the first suction device that Hudson actually doesn’t mind us using with him.
