This is a space for C*vid cautious folks to gather virtually and tend the various griefs that we have experienced since March 2020 and the specific grief of watching the world go back to “normal” when the pandemic is still very much here. With so much isolation in the last 4 years we are excited to gather and tend grief together, to know that we are not alone and that we are held in community. Depending on numbers we may go into breakout rooms, or stay in one room together. There will be time for each person to share. Since DoNoHarm BC started, our goal has been to amplify the voices of the many British Columbians already speaking out the need for evidence-based public health. Today, we’d like to spotlight this statement from R. (they/them), who shared the importance of Paxlovid access as part of our #Postcards4PublicHealth campaign in August 2023: 🚨 CW: denial of care “I got “mild to moderate” Covid in May 2022. I couldn’t reach my doctor, and had to call a 1-800 number and wait for a “provincial physician” to call me back. The next day he called and I said I wanted Paxlovid. I was very sick and had asthma. A couple people in my family had gotten Long Covid, and I knew Paxlovid could potentially reduce the chances of getting it. “The physician told me I didn’t meet the qualifications and since I was “young and healthy”, I wouldn’t get Long Covid and not to worry about it. “A week later I went to the hospital in an ambulance. 4 weeks later I was diagnosed with Long Covid. A year later I am permanently disabled. I’m retired at 28. “Paxlovid could have prevented it. I could have had a second chance. I could still be working, I could be able to walk… I could be able to pay my bills and afford food. “But I don’t. Because the province decided arbitrarily that I wasn’t worth a dose.” 👉 Tell BC not to end Paxlovid coverage in BC - and that we need equitable access! Link in bio. Fast dreieinhalb Monate nach dem positiven Test: doppelte Geschwindigkeit, gleicher Puls, und das Beste: kein Crash anschließend, heute, einen Tag später, sogar fitter als gestern. Mein Puls hat sich schnell wieder beruhigt hinterher. Das war ein 6-Minuten-Gehtest: Sauerstoffsättigung messen (98% SpO2), dann 6 Minuten sehr schnell gehen, hinsetzen und noch einmal Sauerstoffsättigung messen. Achtung, nicht nachmachen wenn PEM droht oder die Fatigue zu krass ist! Am Ende war die Sauerstoffsättigung lange bei 99% SpO2. Das bedeutet wohl, dass meine Lunge weitgehend in Ordnung ist - eine Sorge weniger! Und: ich kann endlich anfangen, sehr vorsichtig etwas Bewegung in meinen Alltag einzubauen und die Kondition langsam und behutsam wieder aufzubauen. Progress! Sogar messbar! Vor einem Monat noch unvorstellbar. Der letzte Schub dauerte übrigens vier Wochen. #covidisnotover #longcovidrecovery #mecfs #mcas #pem

We often conflate the beginning and ‘end’ of the pandemic with the beginning and end of the mask mandate. I post this because you need to know it’s not gone. Also because this thing is bloody sneaky!! First day of possible exposure (unbeknownst to me) was Tuesday. I was told Saturday that I had definitely been exposed. I tested every day. I had three days of negative LFTs. THREE DAYS!! Today I tested positive. Seven days after first possible day of exposure… 🦠 😷 Just because you see a negative LFT (or three) doesn’t mean you haven’t got it. If you have ANY symptoms (any!) then keep testing and keep masking. This is now my third time with this disease… (and I’m very vigilant!) Chuffed by Sir Chuffington / SO FLUFFY / highlight of the weekend / tuppence a bag / consider this. There are two mourning dove couples nesting in my yard and next door. One of my favorite sounds on earth. They come back every year. Our block retaining wall is a little apartment complex for them…I imagine each nook and cranny offering a different amenity. It makes me happy to offer them shelter. My grandma Barbara owned parrots. I handled them, fed them as a young child, had love, but then became fearful of birds in general because of their unpredictability, and I have a strong startle response, and I got grossed out by them. Only recently, being home like I have for years, could I really start noticing their patterns and appreciating these creatures that live right next to me. Jeff got a birdfeeder for out his bedroom window, and started learning their names and calls last year. It became a whole thing.
