When the sky is still so clear on those evenings of May, and the breeze is entangling my hair by the opened window of the car, the clouds seem to travel against the current of the road unfolding before me; I wish I could turn back time. //The melting portrait // Hurt smudges the details in my mind. No longer a hug that I miss, Or eyes that I miss looking into, No longer a place where I once used to be, And no longer a kiss that once touched my lips. Only a vague lacking. An ill shaped papyrus devoid of a name, Where past present and futures converge To form a whole lot of nothings. A canvas that can pull you in if you get too close to the edge. An illusion of an exit. A myriad of colours. An army of lost details spread across the canvas giving shape to a loss. A haunting portrait of an absurd grief. A portrait with wet paint and hardened edges. The more I look at It , the more I want to touch it. The more I touch it, the more absurd it becomes. The canvas never gets the warmth it needs. Untitled Space Story Part 13: 🛰️ In the vacuum of space, one does not “float” or “swim” through the air - there is no air… There is no medium around you from which to push off of - you’re just… there. Jim was beside himself at this point. His stress sweat had given way to a deeply cold and foreboding chill, and his guts felt like they were being wrung out. He moaned in panic, and his teeth began to chatter inside his helmet. “Pull your shit together man, or you’re a goner…” he said sternly to himself. He took as deep and cleansing of a breath as he could, and blew it out forcefully, watching as some spittle landed on the pill he had taped inside his helmet. “Nope,” he thought, “not gonna need that… Come on, you can do this Jimmy!” Jim had learned about the principle of conservation of momentum in training, and he knew that if he could throw one of his tools away from the direction of the ante room, he might be able to propel himself towards the ship and grab the handle bar with his good hand. He grabbed his pistol-grip tool and tried to clear and center his mind, like a golfer preparing for a game-winning put, as he prepared to take his one shot at self-rescue. He actually cracked a small smile at the irony of feeling the full “weight” of the situation, despite the lack of gravity around him. He steadied himself and went through the motions in his head before he threw - he would have to turn to face the door once he started moving, without taking all the oomph out of his momentum. Letting go or leaving behind We want everything in life. Maybe it's just me, but I wish to have the best I could at all times. But getting everything is impossible, you end up letting go or leaving behind some things. Like trying to capture the enthralling view before me on my phone. Sure, a good camera or better position could have done the deed but that's just how life works, doesn't it? You try to do your best with what you have in that moment. Sometimes I wish I was living in the olden times.. the gown and frill days. To attend balls and dance in ballrooms, swishing and swaying in my Princess gowns, learning swordfighting and horse riding secretly, being someone's muse and dream come true. Then I remember the extend of patriarchal and classist blows, and I feel blessed at how far we have reached, although we do have a long way to go ahead. Looking at these beautiful buildings also makes me realise that we are so far from such art in this generation. The definition of art and what happens in its name has changed so damn drastically. It's amazing and crazy at the same time. While writing the review for 'Murder at the Mushaira' by Raza Mir, I ended up re-reading all the quotes that I had marked. Honestly, there was a lot of stuff that I had underlined, especially the Urdu couplets- thanks to the beautifully crafted prose. . . While there was wisdom and meaning hidden in most of the quotes; there was this one tiny paragraph that I found to be extremely relatable. It started off with a description that captures my dream setting - 'The walls were lined with books, from floor to the twenty-foot-high ceiling. A ladder on wheels stood in a corner, should he wish to reach for the higher shelves.' 📚 The following lines then went on to establish the personality traits of the character- Theo Metcalfe : 'But it was among these thousands of books that Theo felt at peace. One day, I might even get a chance to read some of them, he thought wryly.' . . I never thought I would relate so much to a British civil servant. Although it is a fictional take, this characteristic about reading struck a personal chord. The fact that currently I am in a similar situation with several options to read but not enough time. As someone who is overburdened with the responsibilities of adulthood, I find myself constantly struggling to strike a balance between work and leisure. On some days, I am super impressed with my reading skills and on other days, I struggle to even finish a book of short stories. And then it hits me- 'Time' is the essential ingredient. You need to take out time with a book, let it absorb you into its story, sit down with its characters and be pulled into its world. Only then can you actually be content as a Reader. Sometimes life hits you hard A really narrow stairwell of 265 steps for a jailed view. The wind hitting me after that exertion was most welcome. The jailed view though, unfortunately no. It really dampened the feeling of being on the top of a city. Many a times life throws these curve balls that people say turns out for the best. Do you really believe that? There have been quite a few situations I can think of in my life that I really wish would have turned differently. That it would have been much better if they would have turned differently. Finally!! I have been working on this book since 2019. I have over 60k words written and I finally finished chapter 20. (I lied in my last post, it wasn't chapter 19...it's 20) It's not done yet. Unfortunately. The climax is building, it's getting tense folks. One of my goals is to finish it this year and hopefully begin looking for a publisher once it's done. Along with writing my novel, I have been tossing ideas of posting LGBTQ+ book reviews on YouTube and also finishing my Patreon to post updates on my writing, help others write their works and discuss books/writing/world building through that platform. Finding a lil bit of home A random stroll through the neighborhood bought me to this beautiful golden chain tree that I've only seen growing back at home. The flowers from this tree are quite symbolic and part of many festivities in many cultures. Seeing them here, so far away from home, somehow managed to transport me to home for a couple of minutes. All the wonderful memories passed through my mind and I felt happy within. Such a feeling of happiness does not come by frequently. When it does, I cherish it for as long possible. Makes me happy to share it with someone. But I also realise that I will miss the places I am currently experiencing. Sometimes I get so home sick that forget that I am creating new memories right here in this moment. There will be so many things that I take for granted right now that will etched onto my mind forever - people, buildings, flowers, trees, parks, mountains, skylines, food, anything and everything. I constantly seek to do things perfectly. Always. I wish for everything to be amazing. Like sometimes, I search for words that would make my writings more beautiful. I always find myself hiding behind the faces of other people, not giving myself the chance to show the world who truly I am. I delude myself that I am better off wearing a face that isn’t mine while curating a perfected persona that people can admire. It never occurred to me that the way I am will be enough to make people like me and always tasked myself to be different, to be unique and hopefully a better existence than everybody else. I am a fraud. I am a pretender. I deceive people and lure their kindness into my embrace and drown them in the artificiality of my whole self; my heart, body, mind, and soul gnaw on the credulity of their unfortunate mortality. Ah, but I am not a senseless monster. I am not a dreadful creature made for destruction and chaos. I may commit irredeemable sins and incorrigible nightmares, but I do not seek to destroy anything. Believe me, I am nothing but a faceless shadow with the desire to make an identity that caters not myself but others. We hold space for the people we care about. We allow them to be themselves. We allow them to be vulnerable, to show themselves authentically without judging them. And we learn to be present for them. Physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We give to them without asking for anything in return. We help them pick up the fallen pieces. We let the ones we care about know that we’re there. It’s as simple as that. I’ve been fortunate to have friends who have held me together when I’ve needed it. Friends I don’t think I would’ve made it through some of my days without. Sugar and Honey 💙 A short story I wrote a few years ago. This is not from my own perspective, but it is very loosely based off of emotions I felt during one of many break ups I experienced in this one on again off again toxic relationship I had. I do not mean to alienate my aro and aroace friends with this story, or perpetuate the narrative that we *need* romantic love to be fulfilled. I think there are many kinds of love that can fulfill us, from personal to platonic. I simply wanted to explore the complex and deeply selfish emotions than can manifest in a break up, and explore them through a toxic lens, using flowery, romantic language to explore that mindset.
