Throwback Thursday, Fairyloot This was the Beast and Beauty box from February 2019. A Curse So Dark and Lonely. This was a great retelling of a Beauty and the Beast story, and I loved the representation with the FMC having been born with a disability. I also enjoyed the rest of the books in the series, which fairyloot released signed editions to match. This box came with a big Beauty and the Beast tapestry, which I used in the picture, a trinket dish, a rose pin, and some art prints. I also got a tumbler and roll on perfume, which I don't have anymore. This book was a great YA retelling of Beauty and the Beast and would definitely recommend it if you like the Beauty and the Beast story. I love a good fairytale retelling, especially if it's a darker take on it. ⛓️ Que dire sur ce deuxième tome d'une saga dont j'ai dévoré le premier tome hormis que j'ai autant apprécié lire ce deuxième volet. Plus la lecture passe, plus on s'éloigne de l'écriture de la malédiction de la belle et la bête mais dans le bon sens. On découvre enfin une véritable âme à l'histoire, loin d'une réécriture mais plutôt d'une adaptation singulière qui mérite d'être lue. Certes, l'histoire de Rhen et d'Harper est mise au second plan mais pour une bonne raison, mettant celle de Grey sur un pied d'estale. Ce personnage que l'on suit depuis le début et qui pourtant nous reste si énigmatique. On découvre par le biais de ce deuxième tome une réelle épopée pour ce personnage qui poursuit son chemin, celui qui lui semble juste. Et on s'attache à lui, bien plus que son comportement dans le premier volet ne pourrait nous faire penser. Le contraste entre les deux personnages masculins est si flagrant que chaque rebondissement, chaque choix de l'un d'eux nous plonge dans une véritable tension, comme si nous vivions leurs choix en direct. Mais je crois que ce qui m'a le plus plu, c'est qu'il n'est pas question d'un triangle amoureux, pas de Grey amoureux d'Harper ou inversement, et j'en suis ravie. Et quand bien même j'ai été déçue de ne plus suivre le développement d'Harper à Emberfall, je suis tombée des nues en découvrant un personnage féminin tout aussi fort et intriguant en la personne de Lia Mara. La tension est palpable jusqu'aux dernières lignes et vous rend addict. Je vous le conseille vivement ! Seeing the progression of the story and the characters through a different POV really added another interesting and appealing layer to the overall story. In this story you definitely see why Rhen deserved to be cursed after some of the things he did. Harper was pretty annoying, not that she featured too much in this story but when she did, she was a little irritating except for the one good deed she did during it all. ✨Do you ever go to musicals?✨ I watched Beauty and the Beast performed live last week and it was such an incredible show 🤩 I was also finishing up with this amazing series by @brigidkemmerer which just so happens to be a beauty and the beast retelling, so I was in my element! If you haven’t read the Cursebreaker series you are missing out! Book 1 is follows a similar storyline to beauty and the beast (which I loved!) but books 2 and 3 are what made it stand out to me. I loved seeing what might have happened after the original story had its happily ever after 🥰 Harper is such an amazing lead who proves that it’s your actions and beliefs, not your physical limitations, that define you. ✨Book review: A heart so fierce and broken by Brigid Kemmerer✨ “Ah yes, the most dangerous person at the party is always the girl sitting alone with a book.” A heart so fierce and broken is book 2 of the A curse so dark and lonely series and if you’ve been here long enough you’ll know that I LOVED book 1. Unfortunately book 2 felt so different from book 1, I felt like it lost its magic. But I’m guessing that it’s mostly due to the fact that it was about a new journey instead of a continuation of one. Don’t get me wrong, the story still follows the characters we had in book 1 but it felt like the story from book 1 was completely closed and book 2 begins with a whole new journey. If that makes more sense… it was probably just redundant but oh well. Despite it feeling different from A curse so dark and lonely, I still very much enjoyed A heart so fierce and broken (4.5⭐️) , minus one character whom I’m not sure I like, and read it in one day. Wesołego jajka !🐣💚 Święta wielkanocne spędzacie w towarzystwie rodziny czy z jakąś fajną książką ? Ja mam nadzieję, że uda mi się trochę poczytać i w końcu skończę Księżycowe Miasto 😭💗 Kontynuacja "A Curse So Dark and Lonely", tym razem jednak skupiamy się na postaci Greya, czy zmiana perspektywy wyszła tej książce na dobre ? hmm .... ✨ Klątwa została złamana, lecz Rhen nadal boi się, że magia znowu przejmie nad nim kontrolę. Krążą także plotki, że to nie on jest prawowitym dziedzicem tronu. Grey kiedyś należał do straży królewskiej, teraz musi się ukrywać i stworzyć nową tożsamość. Kto jest prawowitym dziedzicem tronu Emberfall? ✨ Trochę taka bajeczka dla dzieci, chociaż nie powiem, że nie czyta się jej przyjemnie. Na pewno jest masa książek gorzej napisanych i z gorszymi pomysłami na fabułę. Występuje tutaj całkiem sporo magii, mamy nawet Scravera, postać znaną z legend, przypominającego nieco człowieka posiadającego długi ogon i skrzydła. Ta postać to ogromny plus w tym tomie. Harper i Rhen stają się postaciami pobocznymi, a narracja dzieli się głównie na Greya i Lię Marę, pierwszą córkę Karis Luran, królową Syhl Shallow królestwa położonego daleko na północny zachód od Emberfall, która od dawna żywiła wrogość do rodziny królewskiej Emberfall. Przez połowę książki zastanawiałam się jakim cudem wszyscy podejrzewają tożsamość Greya, tylko Rhen wydaje się nie być niczego świadomy. Nie ma co, przyszły król nie jest zbytnio spostrzegawczy, także odnosiłam wrażenie, że tym razem to on jest czarną postacią tej części. Jestem zdania, że pewne książki nie powinny mieć swoich kontynuacji i powinny zakończyć się na pierwszym tomie, ta seria jest tego przykładem. Przeczytałam ją i mam wrażenie, że ta opowieść jedną stroną wleciała mi do głowy, a drugą wyleciała. Byłaby to całkiem przyjemna historia, ale lepiej gdyby skończyła się na 1 tomie. Czuje się zmuszona przeczytać jeszcze "A vow so bold and deadly", bo nie lubię porzucać serii nie wiedząc jakie miały zakończenie. Now that's what I'm talking about when I ask for a YA fantasy, I'm so grateful for @e.a.winters for recommending this series, it really feels typical of what I longed for . I seriously don't know what to say about it except that I adore it from cover to cover there wasn't a page or a chapter that I wanted to skip. The writing style was so conveying despite using a simple language. The story telling was smooth and captivating, it was also satisfying that the events did not trudge to catch up with the first book's while still keeping the intrigue at its Peake nor was the beginning of the story slow to fall into action. When it comes to the story it was full of anticipation, but it was hard to unravel the plotting and schemes and it was really nerve-wracking to see how foolishly some characters acted or how many unnecessary mistakes could have easily been avoided. Compared to the first book I do feel this one had more events cause like I love Rhen but I find that Grey is more of an action man than him, yet as much as I like and respect Grey's character and how I really wished for him to be safe I still couldn't picture Rhen as a villain cause his actions were obviously fear driven and not malicious or cruel, for that reason I kind of would have preferred to have his pov in this book as well cause i hated how everyone else kept making their own assumptions drawing him as the bad guy and turning Grey's head over him. And Issak 🤌🏻🫠 forget everything I just said, nothing in this book would have been the same if not for this character. Cause he had a great deal in Grey's character development and self-acceptance .And I believe I should seek some help for simping over characters with tails 🫣🙂. The end got me really hooked I honestly did not see any of it coming, I'm like as surprised as the characters were XD and my jaw never dropped as quick as when i reached the prologue. Book three promises to be a fenomenale closing 👀🔥. I enjoyed this second installment more than the first. Early on you do find that there is a switcheroo between the main love interest and hero of the story which I actually liked (similar to ACOMAF). There was action, slowburn romance and some new strong female characters introduced. But some serious bad decisions! Review # 12 of 2024: What a wonderful end to a story—but gosh it felt rushed and I didn’t want it to end. In fact, I read it slowly (as in little by little, but still was reading the pages super fast). There were so many emotions this book. People thought I hated it because I kept saying I was frustrated but it’s because I’m a character driven reader and they were being ridiculous. This book is def kid friendly in the sense that the steamy scenes ‘dot-dot-dot’ out. Do the characters hook up? Definitely. But it’s not descriptive at all. The author really did this in a respectful and tasteful way, too. I definitely think I need to buy these. Cursebreakers by Brigid Kemmerer Review I really enjoyed this series, even though it went in a direction I didn’t see coming from the first book. The best by far, in my opinion, was Forging Silver into Stars, which is the first book of the sequel series. It can be read without reading the original trilogy but completely spoils it. The first book, A Curse So Dark And Lonely, is a Beauty and the Beast retelling where Harper, a girl from DC, is brought to Emberfall, a country plagued by a vicious monster. She lives in the castle with Crown Prince Rhen and the Captain of his Guard, Grey. Harper also has cerebral palsy. It affects her, but it is not her personality. I thought this series did a great job in how it portrayed her disability. Have you read these books? Being the middle book in a trilogy I feel like there’s a slow down in the pacing of how the book goes, and I felt that a little bit in this book. But I was still very interested in the plot. I love Grey so much, he is definitely my favorite character in the series. He’s been through so much and he just has my whole heart. ❤️ I love that this book was mainly focused on Grey too because there wasn’t much information about him in the first book. I love the slow development of Lia and Greys relationship. It’s so sweet and all the little moments they had together along the way were adorable. One thing I can’t get over is the decision that Rhen and Grey have to make. Or I guess talk about? 📝 B O O K R E V I E W 📝 ✨ Destroy the Day ✨ by Brigid Kemmerer . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Struggling to rate this one. I really loved the first two books in this series and I genuinely did enjoy the majority of this one but I think there were elements that disappointed me so I just don’t know what to rate this and have settled at 4 as 3 just seems too harsh. . I liked the new characters but there were certain aspects/relationships that just felt rushed to me. If you’ve read the first two books I think you’ll know who I mean. The particular relationship in question was more of an after thought in this book and I just was puzzled by this. This is a pet hate for me though and I can think of another series where the author did this with a couple and it didn’t sit well with me then either 🤣. . There was also another relationship that developed in this book that was nice but it wasn’t where I thought the focus would be for this book so I was disappointed a bit I think. . (I’m being deliberately vague here in case people haven’t read the first two books!) . I enjoyed the plot and the overseas ‘stuff’ and honestly I did think that could have been developed more as that ended quite abruptly too 🤦🏼♀️ within like 5 pages it was all over and I was like oh! . I don’t know if I’m being too harsh here but honestly I’m just not sure on this one. I couldn’t bring myself to rate this one less than 4 stars though because I do love the characters. . Overall I do recommend this series and this is a must read if you’ve read the first two!! Lehetett volna akár szerelmi háromszöges “küzdünk a lányért” téma, DE az írónő fogta az egészet, felrázta a már kissé unalmas kliséket, és BUMM. Minden karakter erős, dinamikus, megvannak a maguk tulajdonságai, céljai. És had ejtsek szót a karakterfejlődésről… mert van dögivel! Plusz azt azt hiszem már említettem, habár nehéz ebből is kedvenc karaktert választani, pont amiatt, amilyen szerethetőre alkotta őket az író, hogy nálam Grey lett a kedvenckedvenc. 🩶 Plusz ok, amiért ajánlom: YA fantasy, de egyik rész, egyik könyv sem azt adja, amit az emberek várnának tőle. Sokkal többet, izgalmasabbat, csavarosabb történetet. És imádom is az ilyen sorozatokat, hogy olvasás közben, egyik oldalról a másikra sem tudnám megmondani, mi lesz itt.
