I've been working on my final chapter this week... Monday was a big day in our house, my husband had an important job interview via Teams with multiple meetings and I had the final day of my five week online writing course I'd been doing through my local library back at home. The day itself turned out to be a bit crazy as I had two children recovering from stomach bugs to manage and a very limited time to work on my final chapter before it was time to present to the rest of the group. I have drafted the final chapter four times now and with each iteration I'm getting closer to the ending my characters need and deserve. I read it out and it was unanimously well received, leaving several members with tears in their eyes, including the tutor. I also managed to win around the woman who recognised a lot of Liam in someone she knows, which really pleased me. I now have an opening image and final image I'm happy with (for now at least). On to the hefty work of filling in the rest! It's hard to believe that I'm sitting down today to outline the last book in my coming of age urban fantasy series The Bradford Files. Hello my loves! I’m going to be posting a weekly update every Sunday going forward to keep you all in the loop of my crazy little life ✨ Writing ✍🏻 Chapter one of Wyvern of Water (affectionately being referred to as WOW) is currently with my beta group. If you know me you know I prefer to edit as I go, (if I don’t I will leave it to the last minute and probably mess it up!) so having the early chapters sent away so I can edit them before I start writing the nitty gritty chapters is a big, big help. Reactions so far have been fantastic, and I’m so excited to share the final part of Kira’s story with you all!! Personal 🌸 I have been in and out of doctors for the last week or so, getting blood tests and am currently waiting on a CT scan of my kidneys. I’ve always been very open about my health and my disabilities so nothing there is going to change, but with the state of the NHS just now I think it’s going to be a while until I get that appointment! If you enjoy fantasy books, I 100% recommend this series. Utterly phenomenal! I got the first four books for free at a rummage sale this summer thinking, "Eh, I'll give them a shot" and man, I wish I would have read them sooner. All my free time goes to flipping pages and wanting to see what happens next (sorry doggo). 😅 In some ways it reminds me of the Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta, another series that are absolutely worth the read. While I can only dream of producing writing as high quality as this, books like these get me excited to write. Excited to try and create something that resonates with a reader long after that final page is turned. Something that leaves a mark, you know? The thorough world building, witty banter, endless plot twists, and bold story telling are all aspects in this novel that stood out quite strongly. These aspects are now the lens I am going to work on utilizing as I continue editing and drafting, with the goal of *hopefully* strengthing my own writing style. In between working and reading of course. I can't wait to see what the next books in the series hold! Something tells me that they are only going to get better as they go on. In my roll of reading things that I have sworn not to, I discovered a old copy of this book that I vaguely remember grabbing from a LFL. Once again, I saw the audiobook available from my #wichitalibrary through @libby.app so I decided to take my chances. So here we are on the last day of #bookstareviewweek and I am almost caught up! WITHOUT MERIT by Colleen Hoover felt much more like a coming of age for a girl in a very messed up family with a side helping of romance. I was pleasantly surprised by this and enjoyed the quirky character of Merit. Her journey was a bit bonkers and tough. I had no idea what would happen within this family drama. The romance factor was secondary enough for me to not consider what would happen there. I did enjoy the narration of this story, and it is likely the only reason I did choose this title. I am not generally someone who follows the masses; in fact, I am rather the opposite. Occasionally my curiosity will push me to secretly try it. I am not usually surprised. While this did surprise me a bit, I still doubt I will jump on the CoHo wagon. It didn't move me that much! Do you ever clean up and find a book that you forgot you had?!

Although I have written on and off most of my life, it's only been within the past five years that I've had the opportunity to actually write my first book. I started out with a romance series that I finished but haven't done anything with, because my character, Miles Bradford, spoke to me and I had to tell his story first. Good morning, dear friends! Today's post is a little trip down memory lane. Wicked Ways to Ruin a Boy is a novel I wrote the first draft of way back in 2015. I had such high hopes for this project, but my confidence in it was crushed after being rejected from a popular mentorship program. Back then, it really felt like I might give up writing for good, but here I am, working on my seventh novel. It's important in this industry to have a stubborn sense of hope, don't you think? A little writing update. Despite setting a goal to write 50k in November, I wrote 20k, which I am still happy about. That's twenty thousand more words than I had at the beginning of the month. I still have plans to finish this novel by the end of December. I'm determined to. MIDNIGHT IS THE DARKEST HOUR by Ashley Winstead, narrated by Sarah Welborn, is an atmospheric Southern Gothic. Well. I am struggling with choosing a story right now. Maybe I am tired. Probably. I have tried several in the last couple days with several quick DNFs and stuck with this choice, but I am not sure I should review it. I am in a super critical mood, apparently! It was ok. It felt very heavily stereotypical in the bizarre characters and the backwoods Louisiana location. I felt like I was listening to a B movie, though the narration was fine. I also am too old to have given a whit about Twilight and Bella and Edward, which is heavily referenced. ⭐⭐⭐ for this one. I wasn't wowed by In My Dreams I Hold a Knife either, so I think this author is not writing for me. If you love Twilight and campy Southern Gothic, this is a perfect story for you. I was not in the mood. I think I need a deeper family drama, and fortunately I am buddy reading one that may be a better mood fit. Tell me a great story you are reading please!!

I also recently purchased the final book in the Once Upon a Broken Heart series by Stephanie Garber. She's quickly become one of my favorite authors. I'm looking forward to diving into the last book.
