Very productive day - meetings all morning, then mid-afternoon/lunch workouts included 20 min lower body + 10 min warm up ride + 40 min foundation run which felt like garbage lol. It was 91 degrees out, so I’m sure that factored in 🫠🥵, but I was impressed with how good my legs felt after the half on Sunday and some of the aches I was dealing with during the race not being an issue afterwards, but my legs reminded me on the run that they, in fact, did not feel good. Oh well. Miles in the bank and every run is worth the struggle for some lessons learned and mental gains. Nutrition, though strange times and missed a few macros, was decent. I ate a lot of veggies and not over on carbs - both of which are usually my downfall. Nasty cicadas out in full force here. Day 6 Hot day. 80-something degrees, then the temperature plummeted to 70 during a rainstorm, and then temperature came back up with humidity when the sun came out. 🤦🏽♀️ probably taking tomorrow off for recovery, then we’ll see what else I can do. At 144 miles so far, new distance PR for me. My last 2 miles are stumbling back to Basecamp. Ran out of tailwind, nearly out of water. Tough day. Today was for Camdyn Rider, 21. A transgender man who was shot to death by his partner who then took his own life. #Latepost from 5/19/24: Lifetime 10-miler #3 is in the books! ✅ This was my 2nd time running the @sierra_cascades Shinzen Run. Since I’m still rebuilding my endurance after a health setback with the cancer, I didn’t know how I would do in this race this year. My goal was to finish under a 14-minute mile pace (MISSION ACCOMPLISHED) and use it as a training run for Hell of a Half in August. • The weather was 59° at the start and thankfully it stayed pretty cool until the last couple of miles of the race! I could tell from the start that I would be one of the slowest runners since I hardly had anyone behind me early on in the race. I passed a couple of runners about 3 miles in, but the guy passed me again later in the race. I did pass a few more people the 2nd half of the race and that motivated me to keep going! 😊 • I felt really good out there and I was able to maintain run/walk intervals the entire race! I finished within my goal time and most importantly, I felt good when I finished! Unlike some previous long distance races that I’ve done the past couple of months, I didn’t have to labor and I was able to maintain a pretty consistent pace for the entire race! My new line of treatment is working and I’m getting stronger! 💪🏃🏻♀️ • Post-race pancakes and chocolate milk were provided and some of my @traveling_sistas_ were volunteering. Free entry into the Shinzen Friendship Garden was also included in our race entry fee. After a dreary week in NJ, NICA NJ was gifted a beautiful spring day for NICA Race #3 at Stephens. Donna supported as AM marshal hospitality, bringing stationary marshals located at various points along the course snacks, bug spray and other miscellaneous requests. In the afternoon Jeff and Serena supported as roving marshals, ensuring athletes were safe and following appropriate race etiquette. While not in their volunteer position, Donna, Serena and Jeff all supported the Riptide Warriors as coaches, ensuring athletes were prepped, staged, and received at the finish line. Matt DeFelice was in charge of a fantastic skills zone and Teresa was a stand in coach in charge of team operations in Serena’s absence while she was marshaling. Over 400 athletes participated and it felt great to be a part of it all. Congrats to our riders for having a fantastic day in the perspective teams. Day 3 Officially DNF. That’s “Did Not Finish” for those of you who are not runners. It means I won’t finish the official race, but I can still run miles and get my own PR (personal record). Unofficially I need to rest, I need to regain my calories. Trying my hardest not to frame it as, “I try and I fail, thinking that’s my M.O..” I fell twice on the mountain, stumbled all the way down, I cried twice on the way up, I talked to the trees and the rocks and they told me I am more than the boundaries other people set for me. Just a walk today. Today is the 10 year anniversary of my first race. It was the Paws and Feet 5k at Cooper River. It took me about 35 minutes and I thought I was going to die. May 15th 2024 Clayton Park Trail Maintenance What was once a boring, eroded fall line off the back side of Toboggan Hill on old forge trail is now a beautiful flowing sustainable trail thanks in part from the hard work put in by the team this evening. Less than ideal weather didn’t detour productivity. Finishing touches were applied to this flowy partial reroute and the old trail was reclaimed so that nature can run its course while preventing wash out where the old and new trails merge.
