Very productive day - meetings all morning, then mid-afternoon/lunch workouts included 20 min lower body + 10 min warm up ride + 40 min foundation run which felt like garbage lol. It was 91 degrees out, so I’m sure that factored in 🫠🥵, but I was impressed with how good my legs felt after the half on Sunday and some of the aches I was dealing with during the race not being an issue afterwards, but my legs reminded me on the run that they, in fact, did not feel good. Oh well. Miles in the bank and every run is worth the struggle for some lessons learned and mental gains. Nutrition, though strange times and missed a few macros, was decent. I ate a lot of veggies and not over on carbs - both of which are usually my downfall. Nasty cicadas out in full force here. I ran over lunch on a Monday! 🤯 I decided it was okay given I took Sunday as a rest day from running. It wound up being a very warm run, and challenging trying to keep up with a couple guys who I’ve ran with before (one who is a former collegiate runner), since I’m still recovering a bit. Thankfully they stopped at stoplights and walked a bit at intersections so I could take a breath (and maybe for themselves too, given the heat). 🤪 Overall, it was a great run and I’m ‘maintaining’ whatever that means to Garmin. —————————— @tifosioptics are my go-to shades for any run or race! Next up on the home gym shopping list: kettlebells. I may start with one but I think a kettlebell would be a great addition to my running warm-up. Not only that but I really need to train stability for my race in August. The last two times I’ve run at this location there has been SO MUCH SAND. Adding a kettlebell to my arsenal would be great and help me build the muscles needed to keep me upright while dealing with this terrain. I’ll also have to take a few trips to the beach to run in the sand so I can get a real feel for it. Great Interval Run with Logan to kick off the week! I ran outdoors but hopped inside for the picture because I didn’t want to get chewed up by the mosquitos. I’m a very sweaty person but I promise that’s not the reason I’m super shiny in this picture. It’s the bug spray. 🤣 Houston actually got hit with an awful storm last Thursday and we’re still feeling the effects of it. I live and work in a part of town that didn’t lose power but others aren’t so lucky. There are still hundreds of thousands of people without power and with all the standing water, the mosquitos have been absolutely horrific. My arms and legs are scarred, so even though it’s 5 am and I’m in my neighborhood, the extra strength bug spray is a must. This run was perfect because it helped me adjust to new speeds and focus on recovery while jogging. As we all know, heat affects us as runners and even though the sun is up, it’s already warm enough that Garmin is adjusting my stats. Another @chicagospringhalfmarathon is in the books! Don’t mind the glitter melting down my face 😜 A bit warmer than I’m ready for on these long runs, but I had a pretty decent run pace up until around mile 7 where I started to fade a bit. I mostly stuck with my 4/1 run/walk intervals except for a few inclines and aid stations. Had a bit of right glute and groin discomfort and that’s when I started to slow down a bit and walk a little extra. Some congestion at the start when we got on the LGP - that section by the Shedd is always rough. Other than that was ok for me. Run pace was around 11:30-12, though sometimes I noticed I dipped below and had to reign it in because I knew it would hurt me later on. Walking pace needs some work 😆 As far as training runs go, I’d say it was a success 🙂 . Saturday morning I met up with a group I hadn’t ran with before since it was closer to home than where Fleet Feet and other friends were meeting, and I had to get to my son’s soccer game by 9. I was a bit unsure how it would go because I haven’t exactly been running fast lately, and didn’t want to ask strangers to slow down if I couldn’t keep up, but I’m happy to report I kept up with most of the group for the majority of the run, with the last two miles or so a bit slower but definitely manageable, and one person even stuck with me to run that last bit! 🎉 —————————— Meeting new people while running is one of my favorite things, and I’m glad to have discovered another local group to be able to run with so I have some options with locations to accommodate my #momlife 😉 —————————— This run gave me the boost I needed to not only realize I am in the healing process after a marathon and with the added back issues it’s just taking longer, but that I also haven’t ‘lost’ my speed. 😅 —————————— Next up: possibly a run this evening, but definitely some yoga/strength. Sunny and sweaty run to kick off my Sunday! I was going to head to Open Gym this afternoon and do a long cardio piece midday with steamy temps but Jordan's schedule changed up so I got in my run this morning. I waited until the sun was up and shining to get in a quick two mile run. Of course I had to wear my new hat, shorts and socks! I really love these shorts from Fabletics even though it looks like I peed myself by the end of the run. 😂🤣 This hat was super comfy, didn't slip at all, and has mesh to let some air in. I definitely appreciated it this morning as it seems there isn't much shade left in my neighborhood and the sun was in full force! It’s time for another #flatheather - tomorrow morning is the @chicagospringhalfmarathon. I love this race; we start out on Columbus, run on the lakefront path and then after we finish there’s a brunch! Looks like it’ll be sunny, upper 60s and high humidity, so we’ll see how things go. The plan is to take things at a steady, easier pace and see how the intervals are feeling.

Such a fun morning at Rock Springs Run Reserve for the last of the @sommersports Florida Springs series. It was my first trail run and as @cptakesontheworld described it: “Pinecone. Pinecone. Branch. Hole.” It was a challenge but one I will happily do again especially when you have such awesome @homestaterunclub friends to run it with. Congrats to all. Oh and I managed to get first in my division which was a fun surprise. Finally felt good enough to do actual mileage this morning but didn’t want to push it with a trail run tomorrow. Stomach viruses are no joke and now I really feel like I understood Emily Blunt’s line in Devil Wears Prada about being one stomach flu away from goal weight. Well this morning has been quite interesting! 🤔 I woke up like normal and got ready to run. But then I discovered a tick in between my toes! 😳 Yes, a tick!!! So I had to wake up my Eagle Scout son and have him pull the tick off me. So that was fun! (I took a picture but I’m not including it in case people don’t want to see! 🤣) I finally got out to run though. I ran 1.56 miles! 🏃🏻♀️ And then a short walk afterwards. And on my walk I saw a snake! 🐍 He was brown and about 12 inches long. According to Wikipedia he was a non-venomous brown snake. So it’s been a morning of critters! Yesterday’s runch included some slow-motion hero stuff. Nearing the end of my run, I saw a dump truck swerve—and then a pickup. Then, I saw this 🐢 hauling cookies across the road, into the lane near me.
