Child of the River by Urma Joubert Wonderful and awful in all the ways. I simultaneously love Boelie for who he is to Persomi and hate him for who he is as a white supremacist. #bookfeature A soaring tale of wonder, loss, redemption, & restoration from Cheryl Grey Bostrom, the award-winning author of Sugar Birds. My take: Powerful, heartbreaking, ultimately triumphant story of overcoming tragedy & reconnecting as a married couple. Leaning on Air’s my first book by this author & won’t be my last. I was struck by the beautiful prose & poetic way she describes nature, faith, & life on the spectrum. It’s unlike any story I’d read before & I appreciated the tender ways she dealt with loss, anger, & reconciliation. Now available from Tyndale House Publishing. Purchase links in my bio & stories. Description: They last spoke as teens . . . But on a country road twelve years later, a surprise encounter reunites ornithologist Celia Burke with veterinary surgeon Burnaby Hayes, & they plunge into the most unusual romance of her life. After a decade of marriage, Celia & Burnaby have found a unique & beautiful rhythm. Then tragedy strikes while Celia hunts for the nest of a research hawk near the Snake River. Reeling with grief, she’s certain Burnaby won’t understand her anguish or forgive the choice that initiated it. She flees to kindness at a remote farm in Washington’s Palouse region, where a wild prairie & an alluring neighbor convince her to begin anew. But when unexplained accidents, cryptic sketches, & a mute little boy make her doubt her decision, only a red-tailed hawk & the endangered lives of those she loves can compel her to examine her past–& reconsider her future. *A beautifully crafted story set in the Pacific Northwest that brings the setting to life. *A compelling contemporary novel about love & loss. *Explores the challenges of a marriage when one partner is on the autism spectrum. *Includes discussion questions for book clubs Coming soon: The Sugar Birds sequel & a third stand-alone novel. Her earlier devotional—The View from Goose Ridge: Watching Nature, Seeing Life—is a well-loved classic. QOTD: Have you ever gone bird watching? Thanks to @crazy4fiction @tlcbooktours @cherylgreybostrom @tyndalehouse for the gifted copy! #leaningonair #cherygreybostrom #crazy4fiction #tyndalehousepublishers

#BookReview of #LeaningonAir from #ReadersFavorite - https://readersfavorite.com/book-review/leaning-on-air Reviewed by Rabia Tanveer for Readers' Favorite Leaning on Air by Cheryl Grey Bostrom is an emotional journey of love, acceptance, and letting go. The story follows the tumultuous life of Burnaby and Celia. Friends in their teen years, Celia and Burnaby met years later as successful professionals but lacking in their personal lives. Deciding to get married, the couple lived in harmony for a decade before everything went to hell. The couple went through something traumatic, something that shook Celia to her core, and she wasn’t able to get out of that torturous headspace. It was hard for her to let go of the pain, and it was even harder for Burnaby to see her like that. As Celia sought forgiveness and a chance to heal, Burnaby was looking for ways to mend their marriage. Can they find their way back to each other? Or are some relationships never meant to last? Emotional and well-written, Leaning on Air spoke to my heart and stayed there for days after I finished reading. I loved Celia and Burnaby. They are the kind of characters who leave an impact on you, and you are never able to forget about them. Celia was going through a tough time; she felt what happened was her fault, and she believed Burnaby would never forgive her. However, Burnaby was ready to do whatever it took to protect their marriage and help her heal. Their love was different; it felt more mature and real to me. While Burnaby wasn’t able to articulate his feelings in the best way, he always made sure to show Celia how much she meant to him. I loved the way he adored Celia. The story was satisfying to the last page. Author Cheryl Grey Bostrom touched on sensitive topics with the utmost care. I am a huge fan of this author now! I highly recommend this novel to everyone.

I tried! 😆 Ursa Major was pretty tho’. Here’s the Big Dipper part of the Great Bear at 2:00 am last night. Not a pink or green flash in sight. 😆 If you’ve hit Burnaby’s mention of Alioth in Leaning on Air yet, meet her here: the 3rd star in the handle, closest to the bucket (in the bear’s tail). 🧡 Who saw northern lights Saturday? . . . . . #whatcom #whatcomcounty #cherylgreybostrom #leaningonairbook #leaningonair #constellations #alioth #ursamajor #bigdipper #northernlightsphotos

#bookreview & #giveaway A soaring tale of wonder, loss, and the restoration of land & hearts. Powerful, heartbreaking, ultimately triumphant story of overcoming tragedy & reconnecting as a married couple. Leaning on Air’s my first book by Cheryl Grey Bostrom & won’t be my last. I was struck by the beautiful prose & poetic way she describes nature, faith, & life on the spectrum. It’s unlike any story I’d read before. I appreciated the tender ways she dealt with loss, anger, & reconciliation. Burnaby Hayes’ a brilliant veterinarian who’s also autistic. A college friend took Burnaby under his wing & helped him build his faith & learn to manage his challenges in the best ways possible. When he reconnects with his childhood crush, he’s able to make a marriage work. But, when tragedy strikes, Burnaby’s at a loss on how to connect to his wife & their unimaginable grief. Ornithologist Celia Burke ran away from a series of relationships until she returns home only to discover her handsome childhood friend & is charmed by the familiar yet different Burnaby. Ten years later, their happy if unusual marriage’s torn apart when she experiences painful loss. She flees to a nearby family member’s farm to try to heal, & decide what to do next. This book had so many layers & was deeply emotional. My heart ached for Burnaby & Celia. Burnaby tries so hard to do everything to save their marriage. Celia’s grief is palpable. I loved how being in nature revitalized her & helped her spiritual journey towards God & reconciling with her husband. Now available from Tyndale House Publishers. A soaring tale of wonder, loss, and the restoration of land and hearts. When I first started Leaning on Air by Cheryl Grey Bostrom (published by Tyndale House Publishers), I was drawn in by the familiar setting. I lived in Moscow, Idaho (where Celia teaches) for seven years and know the area well. But as I continued with this story, there was so much more that I loved about it. First, there is Burnaby—a neurodivergent hero who loves is wife strongly and persists in pursuing her even when its work. This is a unique love story that goes beyond the initial romance, engagement, and wedding to the hardest parts of life—loss, disappointments, disillusionment, and much, much more. It’s a story of grief but also one of hope and healing. I loved spending time with Celia, Burnaby, Hazel, Florie, Satchel, Cobb, Willie, Ruth, and many more salt-of-the-earth characters who love and live off the land of the beautiful Palouse region. *Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive or negative review. ✨ leaning on air // review + giveaway ✨⁣ ⁣ “when tragedy strikes, ornithologist celia flees to the remote pacific northwest palouse, where a red-tailed hawk, a mute little boy and the husband she can’t touch transform her.”⁣ ⁣ what a beautiful story! as it alternates between heartbreak and hope, leaning on air (from @cherylgreybostrom + @crazy4fiction) delves into the complications of tragedy, grief, marriage, family, and moving forward—and holding onto faith through it all.⁣ ⁣ after ten years of marriage, celia and burnaby have hit a breaking point. one traumatic loss—for which celia feels responsible—sets off a string of unforeseen circumstances and has her running to a rural washington farm to recover. burnaby, of course, isn’t ready to give up their marriage. this new setting—and the people with it, however, just might be what they need to find each other again.⁣ ⁣ i easily enjoyed leaning on air. the setting makes for a beautiful backdrop as the characters face the challenges that continue to confront them, and the conversations reconciling faith with science proved to be oh so interesting. despite all the heartbreak, there is plenty of hope to be found in the pages of this story—i recommend it.⁣ ⁣ now, i need to go read sugar birds to see where it all began for celia and burnaby. (obviously, leaning on air can still be read on its own though.)⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ✨ giveaway⁣ (1) winner will receive a signed copy of the book and a devotional!⁣ ⁣ ✨ to enter: ⁣ ✅ LIKE, SAVE, and SHARE this post⁣ ✅ FOLLOW me (@hallie.reads) @cherylgreybostrom @crazy4fiction @justreadtours⁣ ✅ TAG a friend (up to 3x per post)⁣ ✅ VISIT each hosted post of this tour for more entries. Wow. It’s beautiful, romantic, and oh-so-memorable. So is the story behind it… This story carries so much—heartbreak and hope, grief and love, tragedy and triumph. I love a book that makes me feel, and this one does that. Deeply. If miscarriage is a trigger for you, note this story delves into that and may be a difficult read or be overwhelming. It’s sad, heartbreaking at times, but the softly placed elements of faith and exploration of hope shine through. Recommended for those who enjoy reading deeply emotional and spiritual stories. Celia and Burnaby are well developed characters that are memorable and effective. Happy publication day to Leaning on Air by Cheryl Grey Bostrom! I don’t remember ever reading a book that was more filled with love than this one. For Leaning on Air is a love story. There is love between a husband and wife, love for family and friends, and love for nature—the land, the flora, the animals. This is also a book about faith and hope, restoration and reconciliation, even when despair and heartache leave little room to believe that things will get better. From the first page I was immersed in the story, captivated by the characters, and enchanted by the Washington state setting. I fell in love with the author’s first book, Sugar Birds, and this book picks up twelve years after Sugar Birds ended—it felt like coming home. I wanted to savor the beautiful language and imagery, as well as the depth of emotion, but at the same time I was anxious to find out where the story would take me. Celia and Burnaby are rich, complex, genuine characters, and they are surrounded by friends and family who fill their lives with wisdom and devotion. There are moments in this book that made me cry, events that left me reeling, but there were many more times that my soul was filled me with wonder. #leaningonair #tyndalehouse

Leaning on Air by Cheryl Grey Bostrom Narrated by Katie Zuckerman This novel is a deep theological discourse hidden within the words of a wonderfully written fictional tale that connects the concepts of the trinity, oneness in marriage, quantum physics, prayer, and grief. This may be the most perfect book I’ve read. I will leave it to others to share a synopsis; the blurb pales in comparison to the author’s ability to present existentialism and entanglement in heart changing ways through storytelling. The story loses a 10 year stretch of time rather suddenly which was a short lived distraction. This is forgivable; the narrative is so well written that the loss of a decade is a small price to pay. I forgot that I was listening to a narration; Katie Zuckerman’s soothing voice placed me inside the story as a silent witness. In the epigraph, she pronounced the initialism NIV (New International Version) as an acronym, sounding like an abbreviation of the word niveous. This made me giggle. Readers should be aware that there is a recurring theme of pregnancy loss as well as one fairly graphic loss of a live birth premie. This occurs early in the story so it’s not really a spoiler and I believe it’s important enough as a potential trigger warning to share this information. Another content consideration is temptation to have an affair. Feel free to PM me for more details on these I listened to this audiobook free courtesy of #netgalley in exchange for my honest review. BOOK REVIEW: Leaning on Air by Cheryl Grey Bostrom @cherylgreybostrom | 4.5 Stars! Releases May 7, 2024 What a roller-coaster of emotions packed into this book! This book follows Celia and Burnaby, who knew each other as teens and reconnected 12 years later and end up married. After a decade of marriage, they find themselves going through some of the toughest years of their marriage with many traumatic events. Celia is devastated with the after effects of everything she has endured and Burnaby is trying so hard to make their marriage work. We follow this couple on their journey to overcome tragedy together and we see how God is involved the entire time. This was was such an impactful story - especially to me as an Autism Boy Mama. I specifically loved the introduction when Burnaby is explaining how God has been with him through his autism - when he is explaining what's helped him in his growth - the way it was explained means a lot to me because as an Autism Mama, we worry about our own children with the unknown of "will our children be able to make the decision to follow Christ?" Seeing Burnaby's story and faith in God gives me hope for my own son to be able to make that decision one day for himself. I love how Burnaby fought for his marriage with Celia. He may not always be able to express it in the best way because he is autistic and he struggles with sensory issues, but he truly loves her. I also love how he talked to Celia about how the Lord loves their child and understands what it's like to lose one. It was beautiful. Celia is skeptical of God here but we see her open up. I would have just liked to see a little more in her faith journey. It was also very interesting to learn more about their professions. You also learn a lot about Washington State's Palouse - which is one of the most serene and pastoral farm areas of the state. This story may have been filled with grief and trauma, but God was moving in their marriage. I couldn't fit my full review here, but will discuss more on my YouTube Channel this month! Thank you to Tyndale House Publishers @tyndalehouse for a copy to honestly read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was an interesting read, and one that makes you think too… It revolves around two main characters…Celia and Burnaby. They knew each other as kids, and by chance run into each other again, years later. He is on the autism spectrum… and experiences some of the oddities that some of these folks have. He’s had a crush on Celia for years, but never expects that she might reciprocate… As they spend time together they see that it just might actually work out! As the years go by, life and its many seasons happen…and they grow apart. Unfortunately, they still have much learning to do… As Celia starts to drift away, she makes some friends on a nearby farm…and things really begin to change in her life. But as multiple incidents occur, she begins to reconsider her life…and all she has, and all she’s missing… Christian based, and some good and bad feelings emerge throughout… I totally enjoyed the characters, but for some reason, it just felt a bit choppy to me…and for that reason, I’m giving only 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️. Still good, but I felt like it’s missing something… Thanks to #NetGalley and #DreamscapeMedia for an ARC of the audiobook which releases on 5/7/24, in exchange for an honest review. #LeaningOnAir by #CherylGreyBostrom and narrated by #CadyZuckerman. I’m only 40 pages into Leaning on Air by Cheryl Bostrom, but I’m already completely immersed in the story, captivated by the characters, enchanted by the Washington state setting. I fell in love with the author’s first book, Sugar Birds, and this book picks up twelve years after Sugar Birds ended…it feels like coming home. I am going to savor the beautiful language and imagery, but at the same time I’m anxious to find out where this story will take me. Leaning on Air publishes May 7. #LeaningonAir

But on a country road twelve years later, a surprise encounter reunites ornithologist Celia Burke with veterinary surgeon Burnaby Hayes, and they plunge into the most unusual romance of her life. She flees to kindness at a remote farm in Washington’s Palouse hills, where a wild prairie and an alluring neighbor convince her to begin anew.
