In this age of plastic surgery, fillers, implants, Botox and endless collagen supplement advertisements I think it’s crucial that we allow ourselves to be seen in our raw and natural state and be able to feel proud. There was a time I briefly worshipped at the altar of botox but this was long before I had major surgery, contracted sepsis and clinically died (twice) Coming back from that rollercoaster ride with my life gifted to me on a gilded platter was the wake up call I needed in regards to vanity. Only the lucky get old and every extra day I have on this earth is lucky indeed and not one I want to spend worrying about trying to turn back a clock. Time waits on no man (or woman) but what time is, is a gift. Why do the majority of society want to look ageless? Why do the majority of society want to look the same? What happened to individuality, ageing gracefully or worshipping our beautiful, life giving bodies in their natural state? I have wrinkles. I f*cking earned those wrinkles and they map out the story of my life good, bad, traumatic. Those laughter lines around my eyes hold the memory of truly happy times where I laughed until I wet myself (still do, two children later and my pelvic floor is shot) There is no fountain of youth, we are that fountain because age truly is just a number and you absolutely are only as old as you feel. But why do your face and body the disservice of erasing the memories, the scars, the stretch marks, the laughter and frown lines (your neck and hands will always give your age away so it’s a fool’s game) In this photo I’m wearing no make up, my hair is feral and last night I got but a few hours sleep but if you look past the surface and dare to see with eyes that are searching for the authentic and not the superficial, you’ll see the light and happiness in my soul. No amount of make up, fake tan, hair, nails or teeth can ever belie what’s on the inside, they may temporarily hide it, but it is just that, a temporary fix, papering over cracks. Time will stake her claim over your body eventually so just allow it to flow by naturally as nature intended. I am a crone and of that I am both proud and lucky. #crone

If you’ve followed my work in women’s health over the last couple decades, you know I’ve often talked about menopause as, “The Great Unveiler”: stuff that has been pushed --well, swept I guess is the saying--under the rug …comes out. They demand our attention. ✨ The whisperings of deep callings get louder and louder until we pay attention and align actions more closely with words. ✨ Things we have put up with for…a very long time…end up receiving less of our precious energy and attention. For an age, we've been told or bullied into how we 'should' use our time. I get that it is not an easy thing to subvert the dominant story about success, achievement, and right processes. But ... In an age of burnout, voyeurism (of what others are doing/creating) with self-comparison, and what Maureen Murdock calls, the "mystique of superwoman" , it pays to repeat it , and repeat, and repeat. 🕸️ That there are other ways. Ways we cannot even fathom, until we begin to entertain possibilities and step into the weirdness of other ... We are all naturally active, creative, productive, easeful, vital, sleepy, soft. Long ago we knew this better - more innately. Some people frame their work. I went ‘round and ‘round deciding how I would finish and present this collection. Finally settled on cotton quilt batting and old bed linens sewn to the outside edges. Brass rings attached for wall mounting. I like the cushion the backing gives to them overall and it makes them hang nicely on the wall. A photo of me with my ex husband from many years ago when our two oldest sons were little. I don't know how to put it but I felt more alone than alone in our marriage. He was the "perfect" guy with zero emotional intelligence possibly on the spectrum of Autism and also lacked the courage to be a man and act like one. I never spoke up about how I felt as I wanted him to figure out what is going on and protect me and cherish me. None of this happened. I distanced myself and he didn't understand why. Mamahood reminded me of the deep, sacred, seasonal wisdom that the feminine passes so that women live empowered, clear, and awake to the beauty of their season. We need more initiated women in the world. Women who are steering women in the direction of emotional maturity, body reclamation, and wisdom keeping. I see the deepest needs of women rising to the surface when they’re being forced to live outside of their design — forcing the crone to live as the maiden, disrespecting her ancient wisdom mothers leading children from a child-like mentality due to generational patterns and maidens being so over-s*xualized that they disregard the power of their natural beauty. Today’s #glimmer is this fantastic grey hair!!!
