While the exact origins of tarot cards are shrouded in mystery, it is believed that they originated in the 15th century, likely in Italy or France. For fans of House of Hollow and Wilder Girls!” I’m always a bit hesitant when my beautiful home state of WV is the setting for books, worried they aren’t going to do it justice. But let me just say, this book blew me away. Set in fictional Caball Hollow, WV, we follow a family with Appalachian magic as they try to piece together the strange happenings in their town. Anyone from rural WV knows that we LOVE our folklore and this story did it so much justice. The phrases, food, and “old wives tales” made me feel like I was at home again and the silence and complicity that can permeate small towns made me happy to be away. I can’t wait for the next book! The narration by Reagan Boggs was absolutely impeccable. The name of this account initially began as a joke to my husband of referring to my current fashion style as “satanic trad wife” that evolved to “trad(craft) wife”, which feels a little more accurate. But then I started seriously thinking about it - what does that look like? What would a “trad” witch wife (or mom) look like? I don’t think it’s about what she wears, or how much bread she bakes, or how many kids she has, but what she does. What she IS. think she’s Kind-Hearted. Compassionate. Balanced. Hedonistic. Giving. Demanding. Nurturing. Expectant. Patient. Bold. Passionate. Resolved. She’s strong, but knows when to rest. She’s powerful, her will is absolute, but she is not frivolous with it. The Black Coffee card ☕ Since its importation in the mid-19th century, coffee has become part of the South. Most people immediately think of the sugar-loaded lattes you can find at most cafés, but black coffee is where it all begins. It takes a particular flavor palate to enjoy black coffee, but the spiritual benefits of working with it far outweigh its bitter taste. 🖤 One of the easiest ways to work with coffee besides simply consuming it to help raise your vibration is to read the grounds the same way you would read tea leaves, also known as tasseography. ♣️ Sip on your coffee while meditating on your question. Once you get to the bottom of the cup, drink or pour off the last swallow of coffee. The pattern of the grounds in the bottom of the cup is the answer to your question. Black Coffee is your wake up call and there is no time like the present to start your journey into shadow work. To start off your journey, make and pour yourself a cup of coffee with intention. Now, it doesn’t have to be black, but the bitterness of black coffee is a shock to the senses which is sometimes necessary to get us to see things in a different light. Drink the coffee while focusing on the things you need to let go of. These could be things from the long or not so distant past, but letting go is the first step to making change. So drink the coffee before it gets cold and good luck on your journey into the shadows. A few years ago, I picked up a copy of Backwoods Witchcraft by @jake_richards13 for a little book club. It was eye-opening. So many things that I grew up watching my grandmother do, and in turn doing myself, were witchcraft. The oils and horseshoes and prayers and folk medicines and little homemade dolls - all things that I never thought about and never questioned. I thought I might as well do more reading and add more into my practice. So I’ve been practicing my whole life and am green at the same time and it’s an exciting and wonderful place to be. Welcome to my little slice of the internet where I document some of my doings and thinkings. I don’t have a cute little cottage in the woods, but I do have a cute little house in the suburbs not too terribly far from the mountains in East Tennessee where Jake Richards wrote his book. My home is bright and colorful with very few curiosities. I don’t have a familiar, but I do have a wonderful companion animal. I work a regular job and have a regular family. Hello all and happy Halloween! I am writing this post because I have some major news that I would like to share with you all! First up, for those of you who have been following my page for the last few months you may know that I am currently in the process of self producing my debut studio album. I've definitely had my share of setbacks having to balance my work, home and family life with trying to crank out this record. However that being said I am so excited to say that I have been in the studio for the past two days, and plan to have the record out in December, along with two singles on the way there! Second bit of awesome news I have for everyone is that your boy has been selected to shred it up as the lead guitars for Kingsport's own crossover/grindcore outfit, Toxic Shock Syndrome! Salvatore °°° There's not one wrong way to keep a tome documenting a craft and beliefs. In the simplest way, notes and records are a journal, a letter to a future self or children or grand children. In some ways personal records are very generic and probably mundane. But in other ways they can be a fascinating, peek-behind-the-curtain to every day life in one's own head. Writing down little experiences and things that pique the senses can also train the brain to notice those things more often. Which is what I have done. It might have been the move from the middle of town to a house on a hill in the mountains, but I started to notice subtle differences in my environment after the world turned quiet. I can hear every little sound from my porch - birds, rustling grasses and leaves, frogs, the rain. And when I sit there long enough and have recorded the little sounds every day for a few days or a few weeks is when the mountains began to talk to me. Nothing in nature sounds like a human voice, but once I heard it, I began to listen specifically for it. I have opened the valve and now I can't go out to my yard without hearing everything around me, and taking in the history of the land I live on. And all I had to do was record every time I felt a shift in the air or a breath on the wind. A very simple change helped me to notice the magic living right outside my door. (CONSECRATION) To consecrate one thing is to make it sacred, for practices of any kind. Today for example I consecrated a stag skull to and asked its spirit for help in my practices when I use its skull. It was hard but it was okay with it. The energy must feel right. Sometimes, you may have to explain why to the spirit or gods/goddess why you’d want to concentrate the item of choice.
