Correct Your Posture Month encourages us to consciously think about the way we align our bodies during the different activities we perform every day. Our technology-driven work and recreational habits are a primary cause of neck, shoulder, and back pain. The human body is designed to walk and run, not sit in a folded, cramped position for hours. If you spend a big chunk of your life sitting, you must actively do something to counteract your habits, or your posture will suffer. Poor posture affects our long-term health. Over time, poor posture causes bone and joint issues that places our quality of life at risk. Good posture comes with practice. It is more than standing up straight and keeping your shoulders back. Though there is no “perfect” posture, there are better and worse postures. It’s not just how you stand, it’s also how you align and balance your body when you sit. 👉🏼 Here are some things to do and consider when it comes to your posture: ✨ It's important to stretch and move at least every 30 minutes if you work at a desk ✨ Strengthen your core muscles with yoga and Pilates or see a Physical Therapist for guidance ✨ Work on your balance with exercise like Tai Chi or just standing on one leg while washing your hands ✨ Check your office ergonomics. Is your chair at the right height with good back support? Is your keyboard too high or too low? ✨ Is your car your office? There are ways to make your ride ergonomic, too.
