Thanks for sharing, Kelley! *** this book took me on a roller coaster of emotions. please look up all the trigger warnings before starting this, but also, do not let those stop you. We are going along a journey of healing for our protagonist, Paulina. It has a unique structure, alternating between now with her therapist, her traumatic childhood, and a specifically difficult year in her adulthood. I had a really tough time getting through this because of how eerily similar some of my own trauma coincided with Paul’s. It was oddly cathartic however, and really allowed me to heal because of how she was able to navigate her life post everything. A giant shoutout to @zgreads for sending this over to me, and an even bigger shoutout to Jess Taylor for writing something that made my heart heal just a bit. April reading and journal wrap-up... I finally was able to catch up in my journal yesterday. I unfortunately am one of the many who got COVID in DC. Strangely the last two times I've gone were the only two times I've tested positive. I wasn't able to go with my daughter on her girl scout overnight this weekend because of it but she had so much fun she didn't want to leave. @ryanwatersband released ‘shadow of the doubt’ last week. The story telling in this record is Immaculate, vividly creating an image for you to follow along with as the record progresses, helping to fully immerse you in the lyrics and their meaning. This is one of my favourite ways in which lyrics are written, engaging you and involving all of your senses. The way this record unfolds instrumentally is so satisfying, slowly building and progressing throughout it the verses before the introduction of a strong guitar lead in the chorus which adds a depth to the listening experience. I love the genre fluidity of this record, it is incredibly interesting and complimentary. You’ll wanna give this a listen asap. @lukehemmings released his second piece of work last week, ‘Boy’ is a stunning EP in which ‘Promises’ and ‘Benny’ are standouts for me. The records he releases always have this nostalgic aura around them that fill you with a sense of calm and serenity, making for a beautiful acoustic experience. With his signature stunning vocalisation, the record holds such permanence to the love you feel towards your family, and the sacrifices you’re willing to make for them, abundantly clear through the lyric ‘I set myself in fire to keep you warm’. The record also touches on the guilt that comes with distance from those you love, a bittersweet sentiment that is sugar coated by his signature lulling guitar trills that are reminiscent of the summertime and easier carefree moments. This record feels like an escape from time and reality, one I’ll be using at every opportunity.

Happy Publication Day!! Elle Cosimano (Finlay Donovan series) recommended this book on her tour, and I was VERY excited to receive an ARC from @netgalley. Great humor and a very fun story! I’m quite excited for this series to continue. Today is my stop for the @angryrobotbooks tour for The Last Phi Hunter @gosalgo I'm not going to lie, the cover is what initially drew my attention, but this is a story steeped in Thai folklore. Something of which I knew very little. I'm obsessed with folklore, but somehow have never ventured into Thai. This book has made me want to read more. This book has all of my favourite tropes. Found family and forbidden love. There are side characters like The Hound (I loved him, he's probably my favourite and I would love a novella just about him) who play a far bigger part than I could have anticipated. This book has necromancy, assassins, demons, a wild magic system I've not really seen before, gods, monsters and other realms. It was a wild ride from start to finish and I cannot recommend it enough. I'll include the synopsis in the comments so you can learn more. 📚ARC REVIEW by Jo 📚 Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC! The Bridal Party by Maria Frankland tells the story about a Hen Party and a murder that happens after a night of drinking. The book then tells the story of the party goers while being interviewed by the police. Let me just start by saying I love a multiple POV book, this book mainly was told by the perspective of Jen, who is the maid of honor, however after the murder we do get the POV of all the Hen Party guests as they are interviewed by the police. I thought the multiple POV helped the story move along and made the book much more interesting to see each character and their reactions as they are being interviewed by the police. Even though I kind of guessed some of the things that did happen, I still enjoyed the story and the ending. In my opinion, the book had a good pace, especially after the murder, the author moved the story along with the input of each character seamlessly. Overall, this book was a great read, it was a fast read and very entertaining. The author pulled off a great ending, with it being very well explained and not rushed at all. This was my first read by Maria Frankland but it certainly will not be my last. I seriously can’t give enough hype for how perfect he is. Seeing Red was probably my most anticipated read this year and I can say it did not disappoint. Accidental pregnancy isn’t my favourite trope but the way Bailey wrote it made it all worth it. As I myself have PCOS I love that Cassidy had it and felt her in every aspect. If I would have gotten accidentally knocked up when I was in the height of my symptoms I would have absolutely made the exact same decision, not knowing if this would be the only chance. I’m so so happy with how Bailey wrote their growth and how much they fought to not turn out like their unworthy parent. The topics are hard and she wrote them with such grace and respect. Review: Once More With Feeling by Elissa Sussman ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️ I definitely had feelings. Apparently I really like my books to give me a rollercoaster of emotions. The cover is deceiving, as it is not a fun little theatre book. BUT it also is a fun little theatre book, because if you like broadway musicals you will find so many little Easter eggs in here. I LOVED the growth that you saw throughout the book. The back in forth from past to present gave you insight into the build up of their relationship. Kathleen had lost everything but I loved how by the end she forgave herself and owned up to the mistakes she had made, as well as Cal and Harriet. Seriously the trifecta was everything. I’m so glad I finally decided to pick up this book, even though it was nothing I had expected when I initially put it on my TBR. Happy National Emily Henry Week 💜 I worship the ground this woman walks on; she keeps pumping out one banger after another. We’re days away from the release of ‘Funny Story’ and I cannot wait, I’ve been wanting to talk about this book since I read it back in January. Funny Story follows Daphne, who after moving halfway across the country to start her new life, is ruthlessly dumped by her fiancé (Peter) for his childhood best friend (Petra). With no friends and nowhere else to stay, Daphne finds herself having no choice other than to cohabitate with Miles, Petra’s ex-boyfriend (whom she dumped for Daphne’s fiancé). Nursing their broken hearts, they find themselves in quite an awkward situation. Already one of my favourite romcoms of 2024, Funny Story is undeniably funny and cinematic. It had me kicking my feet throughout. I always find that her romance novels have a certain comforting quality to them that makes you feel like you are returning to a favourite read or movie every time you pick up a new one, despite each having its unique qualities, and this one is no different. I blushed, I laughed, I cried. Emily Henry writes books that are so deeply human that you cannot help but find parts of yourself reflected in her character’s core wounds. Of all of Henry’s female leads, I felt myself most deeply relating to Daphne. As much as this book has some swoon-worthy romance, at its core it’s about trust, friendship, and finding belonging. As @lizalovereads said in her review, it’s a harder one to set definite tropes for, but if you want a romance about two flawed people bonding after their lives were flipped upside down, I recommend it. The whole time reading this I couldn’t help but feel like it was 1D getting back together for a reunion, now which member would be Drew? I don’t know. BUT it was the vibes. Now Drew. What a wonderful man. He fell, and he fell HARD. The guy was done for the moment she didn’t recognize him. He was the sweetest and most patient man. We all need a Drew in our lives. I love how much growth he went through to get to the end. Lacey should have commitment issues tattooed across her forehead because she is the QUEEN of them. My girl didn’t believe she was worth sticking around for, but boy was she wrong. I love her sass and her passion. She also went through huge growth especially through her grief and moving past the point of feeling stuck. She is what the wolf needs to tame him. I love that even though it affects her internally, she never lets her weakness show. She has designed an app that will send one last email to anyone you choose upon your death. Whether this includes saying goodbye to your loved ones or telling off your former boss. As she works to get the app development funded, there is an issue one night where her messages are actually sent to the recipients. In addition to the clever premise, this book has all that one would expect from Suzanne Park including a plot driven by changing family dynamics and an emotional journey for all the major characters that balances well with the light and fun situational comedy and dialogue. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️ Suzanne Park has become a favorite of mine over the years and this book is a great reminder of why.
