Karya terakhir Agatha Christie ... Sekaligus menjadi kasus terakhir Miss Marple pula #ChallengeRL #AgathaChristie #PembunuhanTerpendam #SleepingMurder #MissMarple #Ipusnas #KomunitasBukuSeru #KubuSetengahTujuh #GramediaPustakaUtama #ReadChristie2024 #OneWeekOneBook

Book Review Sleeping Murder By Agatha Christie ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - 4 stars Summary - Gwenda moves to England for the first time from New Zealand and buys a house for her and her husband, Giles. But something about the house seems very familiar. When she knows things about the house that she shouldn't know, Gwenda starts to get worried. This comes to a head when she remembers a woman called Helen being strangled in the house. She and Giles set out to find out who Helen could have been, if she has been murdered and if she has, who did it? Review - After reading The Moving Finger in January, this felt like much more of a return to classic Miss Marple for me. I enjoyed reading this one. This was a great mystery. I had previously seen the television episode based on this book so I did know the plot already, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book. I think if I didn't already know the plot, I wouldn't have guessed the solution to the mystery. It was very clever. Gwenda was a very likeable character and I enjoyed following her and Giles in the story. However, there was also plenty of Miss Marple so I felt like the book struck a nice balance between them. I would definitely recommend this Miss Marple book if you like mystery and crime books. Christie's books are always nice, quick reads. I think this may be one of my favourite Miss Marple books so far. #bookstagram #sleepingmurder #agathachristie #missmarple

Recently I've been reading #agathachristiebooks and posting some comments as well as its books covers, which in my opinion have definitely amazing arts. This time I read #sleepingmurder that's said to be #missmarple last story, first published in 1976. Gwenda is the main character in the story. She got married to Gilles and both moved to England to live in a beautiful house. Is it possible that childhood memories can be retained into adulthood? Can we consider them photographic memories? Gwenda will find out it in a house supposedly unknown to her with a little help from lovely Miss Jane Marple. #umcrimeadormecido @officialagathachristie #crimefiction #crimefictionbooks #dameagathachristie #readchristie2024 #bookscovers #capasdelivros #illustrationart #gwenda #gilles #thereeds

#currentlyreading . I've been hesitant to pick up this final case of Miss Marple's as it's the second to last Agatha Christie novel I have left to read and I don't want to be finished with her books! Good thing I don't have a spectacular memory and will still enjoy rereading them. 😉 . My dear friend Kirsten @roughreader and I have been on a journey the last twelve years or so to read through all of Christie's detective novels. We read through them chronologically, although this one and Curtain were written earlier to be published posthumously. I've really enjoyed most of the books with only a few duds along the way (The Big Four, anyone?). Next up for me is Curtain, the final Poirot mystery. . And isn't this a cool cover?!? Have you read any Christie's recently? . Stacy . P.S. This book fairy has hidden a secondhand copy of Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie in Nottingham today. About the book: In Agatha Christie's classic, Sleeping Murder, the indomitable Miss Marple turns ghost hunter and uncovers shocking evidence of a perfect crime. Soon after Gwenda moved into her new home, odd things started to happen. Despite her best efforts to modernize the house, she only succeeded in dredging up its past. Worse, she felt an irrational sense of terror every time she climbed the stairs. In fear, Gwenda turned to Miss Marple to exorcise her ghosts. Between them, they were to solve a "perfect" crime committed many years before. #ibelieveinbookfairies #BookFairyBirthday #thebookfairiesturn7 #SleepingMurder #agathachristie #MissMarple #itsinnottingham #secondhandbooks #wob

BOOK JOURNAL/NOT MUCH TO SAY Feeling tired so I shall leave you with this pre-booksta photo (circa 2017?) and a delightful quote– happy Wednesday, dear readers. 📖 “Reading’s ability to beam you up to a different world is a good part of the reason why people like me do it in the first place—because dollar for dollar, hour per hour, it’s the most expedient way to get from our proscribed little ‘here’ to an imagined, intriguing ‘there.’ Part time machine, part Concorde, part ejector seat, books are our salvation.” #kaitreads #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookish #bookishflatlay #bookflatlay #neverstopreading #books #alwaysreading #ilovebooks #shhimreading #bookpicture #bookphotography #openbook #thegreatgatsby #reading #janeeyre #harrypotter #ilovereading #billycollins #reader #sleepingmurder #agathachristie #kennethbranagh #book

Uśpione morderstwo to ostatnia część z Panną Marple. #ksiazka #book #bookstagram #booklover #agathachristie #uspionemorderstwo #sleepingmurder #murder #morderstwo #zagadka #riddle #pannamarple #missmarple #wydawnictwodolnoslaskie #przeszlosc #past #kryminal #crime

Sleeping Murder ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This may be Miss Marple’s last case, but it certainly won’t be mine! 🕵🏻‍♀️ Gwenda is newly married and plans to settle in England with her husband. She finds a great new home, but is unsettled by an eerie feeling that she can’t shake. The more she tries to settle in, the more she feels in her bones that there’s something off about this house. The arrival of Miss Marple brings relief and calms her nerves, and with her husband, the trio begin to pull at the threads of the past. This was a great Christie, following our protagonists as the truth unravels around them. I thoroughly enjoyed the build up of tension and the unusual connection between past and present. #fantasybooks #booksbooksbooks #bookstagramcommunity #tbrlist #bookstagram #fantasybookstagram #bookish #bookreader #bookreviewer #bookrecommendation #bookcommunity #booksofinstagram #bookaddict #sleepingmurder #agathachristie #missmarple #readchristie2023 #bookreview #bookreviewer #bookreviews #bookrecommendations #bookrecommendation #bookrecs #agathachristiebooks #plantsandbooks #booksandplants #tbr #tbrlist

Review: The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie My rating: 5/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This one was for #readchristie2024 - a book from the 1920s. The other two pictured here will be my next Christie reads! [Unbezahlte Werbung] Excerpt from Goodreads "A refugee of the Great War, Poirot has settled in England near Styles Court, the country estate of his wealthy benefactor, the elderly Emily Inglethorp. When Emily is poisoned and the authorities are baffled, Poirot puts his prodigious sleuthing skills to work. Suspects are plentiful, including the victim’s much younger husband, her resentful stepsons, her longtime hired companion, a young family friend working as a nurse, and a London specialist on poisons who just happens to be visiting the nearby village." 📖This was such a great read to start off the Christie challenge! I enjoyed Poirot's debut immensely and just couldn't put it down. I learnt a lot about the background of the story and its publication, thanks to the introduction by John Curran. It now seems unbelievable that Agatha Christie had a lot of difficulty getting the book published. Even though it was written in 1916, it was only published in 1920/21. 🔎Hastings is the one telling us the story and I am almost embarrassed to say that for the most part, I was just as baffled as he was. But I really enjoyed how the clues (and red herrings) are strewn throughout the story and everything comes together so beautifully at the end. 👨🏻I also loved that with my edition, I could decide if I wanted to read the published ending or the original ending as Christie intended it to be. In the end I went for the published version, as it was the very first of the typical gatherings at the end of the story where Poirot reveals everything in a grand finish! “I’ve been gossiping a little. In shops—and waiting for buses. Old ladies are supposed to be inquisitive. Yes, one can pick up quite a lot of local news.” . . . Lepat Lapin Esq believes that a whodunit always helps when you’re in a reading slump, on a plane or train or car or just in general whenever. Agatha Christie’s Sleeping Murder has all the right twist and turns to make it a page turner. Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie Synopsis As soon as she moves into Hillside, Gwenda knows there’s something strange about this house. A sealed room. A hidden door. The apparition of a young woman being strangled. But strangest of all – this all seems quite familiar. As her friend Jane Marple investigates, the answer seems to lie in a crime committed nearly twenty years ago. The killer may have gotten away with murder. But Miss Marple is never far behind. My Thoughts Sleeping Murder was the book I picked to read for the last month of #ReadChristie2023 in December and the prompt was ‘strangulation’ This has become one of my favourite Marple books, it had a more creepy, supernatural feel which I do love in a book. The suspense builds up from the very start with the main character Gwenda feeling uneasy in her new house where she has a strong feeling that she has been there before. Not only that but she has visions of witnessing a murder. But how is this possible? Of course, Miss Marple with her no nonsense approach comes in and helps Gwenda and her husband work it out. They all worked well as a team with the husband and wife duo doing the travelling about while Miss Marple used her brain to work out a logical conclusion. She did well nudging them both in the right direction! With plenty of twists and turns and great characters, this was a throughly enjoyable Marple mystery and it was Christie at her best. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

📚 #DearReader Challenge Tag 📚 Well the weather here certainly knows that it’s ‘blue Monday’ today 🥶 I hope everyone finds a moment of joy today, be it a warm fire, a cozy cuppa, or a good book. Take a moment to do something for you today, ESPECIALLY on the ‘blue’ days. This photo has nothing much to do with todays post, but I took this while on holiday in December. We spent a glorious 2 weeks in the Scottish Highlands, and this was the view from our cottage. The book was also a fabulous buddy read with @thebookdiaryofmisshewlett, thank you for sharing this one with me my love, it was so much fun 💕 So on with the #DearReader tag, thank you @entangled.bookshelf for this one: ✨Did you complete your 2023 reading challenge? Yes, I had two goals - one is the usual GoodReads number-of-books challenge (which I always set at the same number to give me a feel for how my reading year is going, but the actual number is never important to me) - my other goal was to end the year with at least ONE fewer book on my owned TBR, and I did it. I actually ended the year with a net -20 books, and I’m so so pleased 🥰 ✨ What is your 2024 reading goal? To continue to decrease my unread pile. I’m not setting a number to aim at, but being mindful of which books I buy, and accepting fewer publisher copies, I want to end the year with at least 1 fewer physical book on my tbr than I started with. ✨ What books do you want to read this year? My 12 books for #ReadChristie2024 and 12 #HFBookClub picks (whatever they may turn out to be), everything else is just a bonus! ✨ Any 5 star predictions? The Women by Kristin Hannah, The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley, The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn …continued in the comments….

✨️Book review✨️ Sleeping Murder is the last of the full-length Miss Marple novels that @officialagathachristie released (luckily, I still have the short stories to read!), and it did not disappoint. Is the house haunted, or is something even more sinister at work ? What links the new owners to their home may also be the very thing that leads them to their demise. Thankfully, Miss Marple is "on the spot" and ready to lend a hand. Another beautifully crafter mystery by Agatha Christie with my favorite amateur detective had the forefront ! . . #bookrecommendations #book #review #bookreview #fiction #missmarple #agathachristie #murdermystery #cozymystery #sleepingmurder #tbr #januaryTBR #booksbooksbooks #bookish #bookworm #bibliophile #bookstagram #booklover #booklife #bookrecs #lire #lecture #livre #momlife #mommysgotabookobssession

☆ 2023 Recap ☆ • • Some things are probably wrong 😂 counting and tracking isn't my strong suit (even if i love doing it) I had a good year, it started ATROCIOUS thx to my bachelor thesis (that i procrastinated anyways) but i got to so many books i wanted, especially thx to self-introducing the 'TBR-Jar' into my routine. Highlights: ❤️ The Husky and his White Cat Shizun, it't not even my highest rated book BUT MY GOD my every waking moment was CONSUMED reading this ❤️ after waiting, agonizing, and theorizing my most anticipated read: Dark Heir ❤️ Golden Terrace my beloved underrated Danmei Duology, i lost count how often i rec'ed it in peoples '12 from 12 challenge' An my god i read a ton of fics....seeing a year in it's entirety..it's not even my most hyperfixation-filled year 😦, but shoutout to my true love: Mo Dao Zu Shi, babes been with me since 2019/20 and here to stay! I hope this year will be even better (i had a FANTASTIC start at least *cough* ATOGAI *cough*), finishing more series, continuing the Jar, maybe some buddy reads ♡ etc. etc. • • ➡️ Q: One book/manga/GN u read in 2023 that EVERYONE should pick up? • • #Books #Bookstagram #2023Recap #2023WrapUp #TheHuskyAndHisWhiteCatShizun #AMarvellousLight #DarkHeir #GoldenTerrace #AgathaChristie #ReadChristie2023 #Manga #GraphicNovel #Reads #ReadingWrapUp #BookHaul #TBRJar #ThePictureOfDorianGray #IfYoullHaveMe #SleepingMurder #PerilAtEndHouse #FreedomIsAConstantStruggle #AngelaYDavis #WeCouldBeSoGood #FavoriteBooks

Book 2 of the new year 🥳. And interestingly enough this falls under the 1960s part of this year's Read Christie challenge. I loved Sleeping Murder. In fact it's my favourite Christie mystery together with Evil Under the Sun. People love to hype Orient Express and And Then There Were None as the creme de la creme but not for me. Sleeping Murder isn't vintage Christie, it's better. An underrated priceless jewel in her collection. Its murder in retrospect. A young Antipodean woman sets foot on English soil for the first time but why does her new home feel so familiar? Why does she know what the house looked like almost two decades ago? And why does she know a woman was strangled there? So here begins the best Miss Marple outing written with such beauty, darkness, intelligence and horror, a psychological trail that gives credence to the Christie saying, "Old sins cast long shadows." #agathachristie #sleepingmurder #missmarple #readchristie2024 #bookstagram #flatlay #bookflatlay #christiemystery #mysterynovel #bookstagrammer #readingismagic #readmore2024

Review: Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie My rating: 5/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This one was for #readchristie2023 - a book featuring strangulation. Between them, they were to solve a ‘perfect’ crime committed many years before." 👵My first book in 2023 was a 5⭐ Miss Marple - and so was my last. I remembered that my dear friend @ilosbookworld told me that this is one of her favourite Agatha Christies and I can now safely say, it's one of mine too! 😴There's something different about a murder which took place in the past, a so-called 'sleeping murder' as Miss Marple reminds us throughout the story. Is it really worth digging up events which happened so long ago? It most definitely is! 💨I was able to finish this one really quickly, without a doubt it was a fast and easy read. I was also quite proud of myself for guessing who did it early on, but of course I didn't know for sure until the end. 🔐According to the Christie website, she stored away two special books in the vault of a bank for safekeeping, and these were to remain there until her death. Curtain: Poirot’s Last Case was left for her daughter Rosalind, and Sleeping Murder: Miss Marple’s Last Case was for her husband Max. In doing this, Christie ensured that after her own death, her two best known detectives would have their final say. I'm very much looking forward to #readchristie2024 🤩 QOTD: Which book did you start 2024 with? #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookish #bookishfeed #booklover #bookishfeatures #booklife #reader #read #books #book #booksbooksbooks #readingtime #bookphotography #bookworm #booknerd #reading #bookreview #bibliophile #beautiful #beautifulbooks #readchristie #mystery #crime #sleepingmurder #whodunnit #agathachristie

One January #bookchallenge was to read a book in your birth year. I read Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie and enjoyed the challenge of figuring out the murderer. I am a Poirot fan so I was surprised I enjoyed this Miss Marple as much as I did. A house in the countryside with a possible murder. My last post of the year and the final book of the Read Christie 2023 challenge - not to mention the only book in the challenge that I actually already owned! 📚 I have enjoyed every minute of this year's challenge and I'm so glad I decided to do it. True, most novels rolled over into other months 😳 but I amazed myself by being consistent and not giving up half way through! 😃Cannot wait for tomorrow when I can begin next year's challenge. And on a completely different note, I finally got round to sampling the Christmas cake and cheese combo that I've been avoiding for years... And it's actually not bad! But that said, I think I'll still be sticking with just Christmas cake on its own! Roll on 2024. December is coming to an end and with all of the holiday activities, I wasn't able to read as many books as usual, but I did enjoy some really good ones. I won't be able to finish any other books by the end of the month, so I'm doing my December recap today. 📚 My favorites for the month include The Exchange by John Grisham, which is a follow-up to The Firm but works perfectly as a standalone. I liked reading about Mitch and Abby McDeere's new adventure. 📚 I also really enjoyed No Way Out by Cara Hunter. This procedural thriller was engaging and had wonderful characters. It's the first I've read in the DI Adam Fawley series, but I'm already planning to read others. 📚 I was so glad to read The Mistletoe Murder by P.D.James. It is a collection of four short stories. My two favorites were the ones featuring Detective Adam Dalgliesh. 🎧 I've been wanting to read more audiobooks, and I enjoyed two this month. The first was Christmas Presents written by Lisa Unger and wonderfully narrated by Jennifer Pickens. The story was fast-paced and suspenseful, told by a compelling narrator that made me want to keep listening to find out what would happen next. 🎧 Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie is my favorite Miss Marple mystery. I've read this book a few times before, but reread it again for the #readchristie2023 reading challenge for December. I read parts of the book from both my print and Kindle versions of the book, but listened to most of the story from an audiobook. Narrator Stephanie Cole did a great job with all the characters and their different accents. Scroll ➡️ to see the complete list of books I completed in December. ♥️ What was your favorite book for December? #bookstagrammer #avidreader #readingrecap #bookwormlife #decemberrecap #mysteryfan #mysterybooks #audiobooks #recommendedbooks #johngrisham #carahunter #pdjames #lisaunger #jenniferpickens #missmarple #agathachristie #sleepingmurder #readchristie2023

. . #readchristie2023 #agathachristie #agathachristiebooks #agathachristiebücher #atlantikverlag #lesechallenge #buchcommunity #queenofcrime #lesecommunity #bookstagramgermany #readchristie2022 #krimi #bookstagram #booktok #booklover #book #leseempfehlung #buchempfehlung #bookaddict #booknerd #cozycrime #cozymystery #sleepingmurder #ruheunsanft

•••Book Review••• Book: Sleeping Murder (Miss Marple #3) Author: Agatha Christie ▪︎Blurb from Goodreads: Soon after Gwenda moved into her new home, odd things started to happen. Despite her best efforts to modernize the house, she only succeeded in dredging up its past. Worse, she felt an irrational sense of terror every time she climbed the stairs. Have they dredged up a “perfect” crime committed many years before? ▪︎What I thought of the book: Sleeping Murder was the official pick for December's #readchristie2023 A newly married Gwenda Reeds travels from Australia to the south coast of England for the forst time (or that's what she thought) to find a permanent home for her husband and herself but little did she know that she'd get caught in investigating a murder that took place 18 years ago. Tbh, this has to be my favourite Miss Marple and also one of my favourite Agatha Christie novels. Miss Marple, like Monsieur Poirot, is extremely witty. This book did not have twists after twists and that makes it different from most Christie novels but I'm glad that I was able to guess who the murderer was. I can't believe that this was the last read for this year's #readchristie I can't wait for another year of unread Christie novels😄 QOTD : Do you have any reading goals for this coming year? Sleeping Murder Agatha Christie. 1977 (but written 1940s) This was the December pick for Read Christie 2023 with a method of strangulation. A young woman unwittingly buys a home she briefly lived in as a toddler, and then starts having disturbing flashbacks to a murder that occurred there. As her husband joins her in the new place they decide to investigate her memories, searching and advertising for people that knew the previous family or worked there. Miss Marple assists them. This is the “last” Miss Marple book in publication order, but was written decades before and doesn’t really feel like any sort of ending. In any event, my favourite Marple novels are when she is front and centre of the story and plot which she isn’t here. This is a fairly solid mystery, but didn’t quite win me over. The first part is very haunting and ghost-like, which Miss Marple bursts with logic and reason. From this point it becomes an investigation into the past. It definitely needed more Marple throughout. I did guess who the killer was but not all the details, because you never can with Christie.

#ReadChristie2023 ReCap & 2024 Theme • • It was really fun to participate in a longer challenge (again). I finally got to so many Christie books on my TBR (not that it really reduced it, my consumerism was stronger 😂) This years idea was 'Methods and Motives' The prompts & my choice: January - Jealousy: Sad Cypress Februar - Blunt Object: Murder in Mesopotamia March - Anger: didn't get to it, would have been The Moving Finger April - Poison: Three Act Tragedy May - Betrayel: The Hollow June - Gunshot: They do it with Mirrors July - Love and Lust: The Mysterious Mr. Quin August - Fall from a Height: Third Girl September - Hatred: Dumb Witness October- Stabbing: Lord Edgware Dies November - Greed: Peril At End House December - Strangulation: Sleeping Murder Excited for #ReadChristie2024 Next years theme is -The Decades' were we explore works from the 20s, 30s, 40s & 50s as well as the 60s & 70s. It's a great way to keep track of the development of different prominent characters in Christies books and how they or the stories may have changed over the years! (Also easier to find alternatives 😂 sometimes i already read the options in 2023 put couldn't easily pick another given that motives aren't spoiled in the synopsis] • • #ReadChristie #AgathaChristie #MurderMystery #Reads #ReadingChallenge #PerilAtEndHouse #SleepingMurder #TheHollow #ThirdGirl #ThreeActTragedy #SadCypress #TheMysteriousMrQuin #MurderInMesopotamia #DumbWitness #TheyDoItWithMirrors #TheDecades #Bookstagram #Books

Sleeping Murder Agatha Christie Another great mystery solved with the help of Miss Marple! In this book, she happens to be our main character, Gwenda’s, Aunt Jane. Gwenda gets a real eerie feeling in her new house that some of us would call deja vu. She turns to her aunt to help her figure it out. I always enjoy my time with Agatha Christie’s characters and I’m happy with the selections we chose for #readchristie2023 !! I cannot wait to start again next month!! #agathachristie #sleepingmurder #onmyshelf #murdermysteries #whodunit @officialagathachristie

12/27/2023, 1:13:38 AM

I started this year just like last year with the theme of reading. I had found about the #readchristie2023 challenge and decided to take it up this year. It involved reading one Christie book every month of the year. I am proud that I not only stuck to it, but a couple of times I read two Christie Books in the month. To celebrate the last month of the challenge I read this gorgeous hard cover version of Sleeping Murder! I found this book in Darya Ganj book market last month and knowing that December's book would be Sleeping Murder I bought it without any hesitation. This month's prompt/theme was Strangulation. And it is the vision of a pair of hands strangulating an unknown neck that spooks Gwenda in her new home. As one begins to read Sleeping Murder one feels like they are reading a gothic haunted house horror novel. Gwenda arrives in Britain looking for a house to buy on the east coast. She finds one house that just "feels" right. She starts imagining doors where there are none. And the workers find an old door painted over exactly where she imagined it. She pictures a small room at the end with a special wallpaper. And then she finds the same wallpaper in a locked dresser! The dejavu peaks when visiting London to call her nerves she is in a show of The Duchess of Malfi and while hearing a dialogue "Cover her face. Mine eyes dazzle, she died young..." She screams as she has the aforementioned vision. Fortunately in the same show Miss Marple is present to take control of the situation and calm her down. And thus begins a mystery of a sleeping murder that should have kept sleeping. Once disturbed, it unravels an old mystery that Gwenda, her husband Giles and Miss Marple must figure out before the murderer gets to them as well. This was also my first Miss Marple book. She has a much quiet way of going around and solving mysteries compared to the loud and egoistic ways of M. Poirot. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Continued in comments.... (1/n)

. #sleepingmurder #laderniereenigme #agathachristie #missmarple #romanpolicier #englishwriter #bookstagram #livrestagram #lectureterminée #readingtime #lecture #bookslover #bookish #instareads #bookpic #booksaesthetic #jelisenvo #lecturecommune #endecembrejechronique #lecturedhiver

😴Book Review: Sleeping Murder😴 The story: When Gwenda Reed comes to England from New Zealand to find a home for herself and her new husband Giles, she is surprised how quickly she finds the perfect house. Hillside, in the attractive South-Coast seaside town of Dillmouth immediately feels like home. But when Gwenda develops a strong conviction that a young woman named Helen was murdered in the house, she and Giles – assisted by the surprisingly shrewd Miss Marple – find themselves delving into a crime that may have its roots 18 years in the past. Could Gwenda’s belief possibly be true? And if so, would it be better to let sleeping murder lie? My thoughts: This is my final book for #ReadChristie2023, with this month’s prompt of “death by strangulation” being represented by the excellent Miss Marple novel, “Sleeping Murder”. Although not published until after Agatha Christie had passed away, this book was written in around 1940-41. She wrote two novels around this time, in case she should be killed in the war. “Curtain: Poirot’s Last Case” was published in 1975, and “Sleeping Murder” was sadly published not long after Agatha’s death in 1976. The story focuses on the (possible) murder of Helen Halliday, which Gwenda seems to remember, despite having been raised in New Zealand and coming to England for the first time. Gwenda and Giles are the sort of intrepid young couple that Agatha favours (in the vein of the Tommy and Tuppence novels), and their unthinking enthusiasm for the mystery is the perfect balance for Miss Marple’s caution. Of course, Miss Marple is immediately concerned that they might discover more than they wish to, and this proves to be the case when they uncover the possible involvement of Gwenda’s father… It’s too long since I first read this novel, but I certainly think the ending is a surprising twist, especially given the seemingly small number of suspects. One of my favourites to end the year on! This has been another great year of Christie re-reads for me, and I look forward to taking part again in #ReadChristie2024! #sleepingmurder #agathachristie #missmarple #goldenagecrime #bookreview #booksbooksbooks #readalong #bookstagram

Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie📚 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💭Are you setting any specific reading goals for 2024? It seems another Christie reading challenge has come to an end. This was a brilliant choice to finish the year - solving a murder that occurred nearly twenty years prior! The theme for this this month was motive: strangulation. I went for the official pick because I remembered reading Sleeping Murder years ago in one sitting. I would say that this is one of my favourite Marple mysteries. Her approach and understanding of human nature shines very brightly in this book. She understands and often tries to emphasise to Gwenda, that deception can be a daily occurrence. Miss Marple never takes anything at face value, and it was fun following her unravel this mystery. Gwenda has moved from New Zealand to start a new life with her husband. But when she moves into their home, the familiarity becomes sinister… Alternative picks for December - Mrs McGinty’s Dead - A Murder is Announced - 4:50 from Paddington - A Pocket Full of Rye I am excited to start the new Read Christie challenge in 2024. I found 2023’s theme, Methods & Motives, really enjoyable. It gave me a chance to reread and enjoy some of my favourite stories. You’ll hear from me soon to discuss the new Read Christie 2024 Reading challenge. I hope you all have a lovely holiday and New Year x 🏷 #readchristie2023 #missmarple #agathachristie #agathachristiebooks #detectivefiction #murdermystery #sleepingmurder #janemarple #readingchallenge #decemberreading #letstalkaboutbooks #whodunnits #crimefiction #mysteryfiction #agathachristiefan #bookishlove🧡

It's been a while since I read the book, and also saw the television adaptation, I had forgotten who the murderer was, and only realized who it was about three-quarters into the book. There are some differences between the book and the adaptation I watched. I like this story, but I don't know why it doesn't strike me in the same way that my more favorite stories do, hence just the 3 stars. BUT I am happy to be able to finish all 12 AC reads for 2023. 😊 Reposted from @bookypiggy Finally, am keeping pace with my #readchristie2023 with the recommended read for December. Ending the year with Miss Marple. Saw the tv interpretation a while back so looking forward to this. #agathachristie #sleepingmurder #missmarple #isa2023reads #mysteries #crimemysteries #crimereads #guesswho

Here's four fascinating facts about December's Read Christie pick. 📖 This was published posthumously, 10 months after Christie's death. 📖 Cover Her Face was a potential title for the novel but in 1964 PD James published her first detective novel using that title so a new one had to be found. 📖 When developing the story Christie wasn't sure who her detective should be. Notes can be found where Hercule Poirot, and Tommy and Tuppence were considered before settling on Miss Marple. 📖 Although this book was thought to have been written during world war two, John Curran explores why he thinks it was actually written later (closer to 1950) in his book Agatha Christie's Secret Notebooks. #AgathaChristie #ReadChristie2023 #MissMarple #ClassicCrime #SleepingMurder #MurderInRetrospect
