There just ain't nothing quite like a mom. For me, the term mother indicates someone who gave birth, but a mom is an elite title reserved for those who loved you unconditionally and guided you to be the person you truly want to be. And it ain't a title reserved strictly for mothers. I had a Laquita, Judy, Brenda, Freda, Linda......all of these ladies at some point took me under their wings as if I were their own. We thank God for all of our blessings in our restaurant journey! We are enjoying our new restaurant move. It has allowed us to have consistent hours Tuesday - Saturday 11 - 8 PM for over 1 year. Happy Asian Heritage month! . As a #firstgeneration immigrant from 🇭🇰, I wasn’t always fiercely proud of my roots. I still recall feeling embarrassed in preschool because I didn’t speak English and it certainly didn’t help that we encountered racism even in the most multicultural 🇨🇦 city (those scenarios stick with you even decades later). Glad things are slowly changing and 👧🏻 even has a myriad of Asian children’s book authors to choose from at the library 📚 . I was forced to speak Cantonese at home…hated it then, doing the same thing as a mom now 😅 Thankful in hindsight as I came to realize the multitude of benefits although it wasn’t until I did a med school elective in Vancouver that I learned the Cantonese terms for “uterus”, “fallopian tube”, and “ovary” from a patient 🙈 Guess that wasn’t a part of #saturdaylanguageschool or mom & dad’s curriculum 😜 . Everyone who’s alive today descended from Ancestors who survived this global asteroidal catastrophe, as well as other natural disasters, wars, famine, and diseases. Regardless of whether you come from, we all share a lineage of those who overcame all odds to remain alive and continue their legacy through us. Unfortunately, many of us have not been taught about our lineages or have had elders or kin that helped us remember the truth of our past. After surviving unimaginable events and building harmonious civilizations, colonization forced my ancient Mesoamerican Ancestors to abandon their wise traditions. Over time, their descendants took on the culture, religion, and traditions of their oppressors, causing them to forget who they were and where they truly came from. They lost their native tongue, oral histories, traditions, and practices. They were forced to assimilate and fit in with tyrannical, manufactured societies being built around them. For many Ancestors, they had to adapt or they’d be killed. From the age of 5 all I ever wanted to do is sing and dance. I couldn't foresee how that was going to happen, and had no idea about how to make a career out of it, but it was my dream. Just a few days ago a highschool friend posted these videos from our Highschool Talent Show, November of 1990. I was about the same age my daughter is now (14/15) and can't believe the similarities of our vocal tone (she's a singer too). Watching this made me laugh out loud and realize there really wasn't another career option for me. In Scandinavia we can see them now and already in April we can see these beautiful flowers like a white sea of Vitsippor. The Vitsippa thrives in forests and pastures as well as groves. The flower closes and bends to the ground in the evening, then opens up again during the morning. Like the majority of the Swedish Flora and Fauna, Carl Von Linné discovered and named this flower. Today I was able to witness a long-time dream for one of my runners fulfilled - and I am so grateful to have been a small part of her journey and her incredible success! I had the honor of watching @morgangracesheffield progress all the way from being a little girl with a big dream in elementary school, to a middle schooler who made “Great Strides” and then I watched (and cheered) from the sidelines as she made steady progress in high school. It wasn’t always easy - she had a few obstacles to overcome with injuries and setbacks- but she NEVER lost sight of the dream to be a top runner and to run at collegiate level. She relied on her faith, her determination and her end-goal to keep her focused and moving forward. What an honor to watch her today as she saw all her hard work pay off! Detta blot är likt Disablotet även omtvistat när exakt det skall ha ägt rum och inte mycket finns nedtecknat om det. Något som dock framgår tydligt är att Segerblotet skall ske vid sommarens början och är ett blot för framgång och seger - ljusets seger över mörkret och kylan. Segerblotet infaller vid den fjärde fullmånen efter Vintersolståndet, vilket är idag och tros vara i tre nätter. Enligt de isländska sagorna var blot sed i Svitjod (Sverige). När fornnordiska Segerblot egentligen ägde rum är diffust, samt om man firade ett eller två blot under våren. Majbrasan/Valborgsmässoafton kan därför ha sina rötter i Segerblotet. Segerblotet har även kommit att kallas "Vårblot" som just tillhandahåller att det nu är halvvägs mellan midvinter och midsommar. Sígrblót falls on the fourth full moon after the Winter Solstice which is today, and is believed to last for three nights. Accordingly to the Icelandic Sagas, blót was custom in Svitjod (Sweden). When Old Norse Sígrblót actually took place is diffuse, as well as whether one or two blóts were celebrated during Spring. The May bonfire/Walpurgis Night may therefore have it's roots in Sígrblót. Sígrblót has also come to be called "Spring Blót", which provides that it's now halfway between Midwinter and Midsummer. As many of y'all already know, here at The Folk, we are a group of growers, makers, collectors, writers, explorers, philosophers, and doers. ~Sacred Ceremonies~ This week I felt a Huge calling to do some deep work. A few things were stirring up from this solar eclipse and I wanted to make sure I held space for it. Being who I am and stepping into my power means that when the “BIG FEELINGS” come up and guilds are making themselves very present, I HAVE to create space for myself to process and receive guidance. I truly believe you don’t get to step Into this work if your own devotions and practices are not embodied. Being a Clear pure channel is something I take incredibly seriously. So I went to the Forest 🌳 to connect with my homeland and ancestors. •Stated my intentions repeatedly and who I needed to evoke to support me on my journey. •Gave an offering in gratitude for the support. Our gods love to be praised! •Blessed and Took the medicine 🍄 •Drank a cacao for my heart. 🍫 •Grounded with bark from the local tree to make sure I stayed on the physical planes and out of Trouble. This has been a big lesson in the last year for me. 🌲 •A Fire to spark my solar center. 🔥 •A purple candle to ensure Ajna/👁️ was clear. •3 Coloured candles that would burn for the entirety of the work. The work lasted over 9h………..A full day of journaling, crying, mediating and reaching places of bliss that still continue to take my breath away. The work is never how I expected but it comes through exactly as needed. I am super hesitant on sharing my rituals and practices, especially as they come in sometimes without humain logic but part of this liberations is in my knowing that my inner wisdoms is Truth and this unique connection cannot be hidden anymore. So they said share….So I share. It’s not always a fun and easy path but it is in full expression of life and a glimpse of hope for a world of complete connectedness and love. Coming up on a decade ago while lazily floating down the Toccoa river on a sweltering summer day, Mae and I had an (well....some folks call it an aha moment and some call it a screw it moment) about the lives we were living. The jobs we had were paying the bills and then some but it was about as filling as a bucket riddled with holes. It was at that moment that we just decided to do the things we felt passion for and hoped that others would be interested in it too. So we took our lives, the life we lived with our kids, our family, and our friends, and created The Folk. I have never been on any long lasting journey that didn't have hiccups, bumps, storms, but our belief from the beginning was that we'll just keep on chugging along and should it all crumble around us, we'd be just as happy living in a van down by a river. But it didn't crumble. It grew. And grew. And evolved.....just like us. And we now realize that there are tons of folks out there who like this kind of life as well. And we appreciate that more than y'all will ever know. So fast forward to the present and it's so amazing to see where this journey has taken us and where it will continue to go. But through it all, may we continue to remember our roots and live with the same philosophy that we'll just continue to live our lives and share that with folks, and that whatever may come, we'd be just as happy sipping coffee together in a van down by the river.
