January has finally ended! Whoosh. According to my brother, Toluwaleke Abimbola, the 51st day ended yesterday ๐ For me, the month was initially fast but around the middle, it started to drag. Have you ever appreciated God for the gift of flatulence? Yes, your ability to pass gas. I'll tell you the day I realised how important this ability is. I had just finished an appendectomy and the doctors said that one major way they could certify the surgery was successful was for me to pass gas. My friend, in the picture below, urged me to pass gas quickly knowing how easily I did when we were roommates in the university. Now, I had to wait a few days to do that. It was a gift afterall. And I would later appreciate God that I could walk, bend and even get up from my bed, unassisted. I shared more on this in my book, Out of the Storm. Often times, when we're going through challenges, we become fixated on what's not working that we forget the million and one ways God is good to us. Gratitude might be the last thing in our minds when we are going through challenges. Back in time with fratello Jim @herrfjalestads_music for the #vinylalphabet - up to W!! . Going with a recent band that I love. I'm a long way from Waxahatchee Creek...... . Waxahatchee Out of the Storm (2017) St Cloud (2020) . Waxahatchee is really Katie Crutchfield who writes , sings and plays guitar. She's got a great voice with touch of a rasp and is so expressive. These are the lps where she kinda said goodbye to full on indie rock and took a walk towards Americana with St Cloud. So they're key moments in her music. The quality of songwriting is always topnotch, but the work on St Cloud lifted her up with it's music, melody and expression. . "And when you get back home to Saint Cloud Watch the new world project A rousing image, scorched earth swinging Supernatural and complex And I might show up in a white dress Turn reluctance on its ear If the dead just go on living Well there's nothing left to fear..." . There was quite a gap between the two LPs and Covid wasn't going to help either. Crutchfield had to take some time out anyway to deal with the stress and strain of incessant writing, recording and touring. She came back stronger with St Cloud which was a very different path and one that really suited her. Definitely well received, even on the IG. After all, IYKYK.... . She has recorded another LP since with Jess Williamson as Plains called I Walked with You a While which is really enjoyable, but these are the two landmark releases for me at least. Always interested to see what she'll do next! . I managed to see Waxahatchee on their Out Of The Storm tour at The Garage in Islington and enjoyed it a lot so when she announced another gig earlier this year I was certainly up for it, but it sold put so fast! During those years of struggle, I never thought this would be a day worth celebrating. . But these 2, they are my world. Losing my other 2 babies were some of the worst days of my life. . But, I know that there is a bigger plan than mine. These 2 were meant to be on this earth. . I still think about those babies and who they would be growing up to be like. I will never not think about them. . I do know now, after many years of processing that my world would not be the way it is had I not had lost those 2 babies. . I can tell you that had I had 1 of them, there would not be a Lily. And that would have be a great disservice to this world. . She is spunky, and fierce, and hard headed as they come but she is love, she is happiness, she is the light that brightens the room...and she was meant to be on this side of heaven. . California ๐ We recently visited the beautiful state of California over Christmas. We drove the coast and took in itโs beautiful sunsets. Enjoyed its beaches, entertainment and parks. It was a fantastic trip. Until it was time to go. The tail end of our trip got a bit grey and rainy. Little did we know that California would be hit with multiple storms, and atmospheric river ( which we have experienced here in BC) and mass flooding. Upon our return home and our entry to Sacramento we were stuck in grid lock traffic when we suddenly got an evacuation alert of the very town we were entering. We had no idea that our safe zone town had flooded the night before and this area we were stuck in was under flash flood warning. Five kiddos in a van, pitch black out, helicopters flying over head and we should have been at our destination already. Grid lock and a flood warning. To say I was scared and stressed out was an understatement. Thankfully we made it to our safe zone and beat the next storm the next day. Praying for everyone in California whom has been affected by these storms. Devastating damages.
