Had a really nice opportunity come up. I was a little late on getting my garden started this year. A local greenhouse here had tons of veggie plants left over, and were giving them away for free before they died. They were half dead when I got them but they're recovering nicely. Not sure what the tomatoes are going to look like. They had formed roots all along the stem from where they'd laid on the ground while growing. Between all the rain and the dirt staying clumpy because it's wet, I thought these plants weren't going to make it before I could get them in the ground. But these beauties planted well! Only plants I had to buy this year were cucumbers, watermelon and strawberries. May reads! I got through a lot of books this month thanks to some advice from my last therapist… to avoid screen time before bed. (You could say reading was prescribed to me by a professional!) So I’m trying to read paper books instead of winding down on my phone, and it’s helping my sleep schedule tremendously. Bonus: I got to read all these lovely books! HOW TO END A LOVE STORY: This was stunning and heart breaking and holy hell, what a devastating “why can’t they be together now?” A new favorite. TRULY, MADLY, DEEPLY: Oh this was so heartfelt and incredibly steamy and I loved every second. Alexandria Bellefleur always hits hard. I adored this from cover to cover. WHEN I THINK OF YOU: Utterly stunning. Second-chance romance at its finest. Myah Ariel, I will read anything you write. This is the 11th song I’ve recorded and published on @spotify. When I look back at all the doubt and fear and hesitation I’ve felt during these past 6 years of songwriting — mixed in with all the imagination and hope and excitement and wide-eyed focus — 11 songs feels like something to finally take a deep breath about. It finally feels like I have a full album of music, a full first story to share with people 📖 In 2018 when my songwriting really took off, it was always so hard to know when I was deluding myself about a good song. But there was one melody during that first spring in Seattle that grabbed at me in a different way and pulled me in. It felt like I was writing lyrics from a more omniscient perspective of myself, a sad sort of grace towards clumsy relationships, using foreign turns of phrase and suggestive language rather than clearly understood sentences — it was like the song was there in a space and I was accessing it and bringing it out in bits and pieces, preserving the delicate melody at all costs. It was the first time a song was a landscape to me, and I could only continue writing the song if I could access the landscape. Six years later, that song has finally found a full form and is recorded here as the last track on my 3rd EP, Late Bloomer. Life lessons from a blackberry bush. I'm very lucky to have tons of blackberry bushes on my property. Every day, I'll pick the ripe berries and enjoy a little organic snack. On one of my walks, it hit me that personal development is a lot like this blackberry bush. Some of the berries are ready to go, some are still ripening, and there's one little late bloomer off to the side. Too often, we compare ourselves to others and our journey to theirs. It's common to feel like you're behind, missing out (FOMO), lost, or even shriveled up and worthless! The beauty of nature is that it's expected for things to develop in stages at the perfect time without FOMO or shame. Nature doesn't hurry and everything still gets done. No matter how ripe or unripe these berries are, there's always some critter who thinks it's the perfect snack. In other words, there's an audience or tribe out there who's going to appreciate YOU no matter what stage of life you find yourself in. You're beautiful and delicious no matter where you are in your journey. ❤️
