There's times when I feel stiff, sore, achy, etc. I'm sure you’ve felt the same at times or maybe you feel that way every morning? If so, do you feel better once you move around for a bit?⁣ ⁣ I have clients that feel stiff in the morning and I suggest they take a warm shower prior to coming in, prior to playing golf, tennis, etc. to help loosen up a bit. With today being 'World Water Day' it's a good time to really think about your water intake Our bodies are made up of 50 to 60% WATER!! So how can we expect our body to function optimally if it is starved of water?! I am always surprised at how little water clients drink, yet it is no problem drinking 4 or 5 cups of tea or coffee a day! Just a simple change from tea or coffee (which dehydrate the body as they contain caffeine!), can make a significant difference to your overall energy levels. And remember- our skin and mucous membranes in sinus/ ears, nose, throat) are a reflection of what's going on inside our bodies- if these are dry, you are really dehydrated! Increasing your water intake: Start the day when you get up with a pint of water as you get ready for work- juicing half a lemon into it will help your liver too! Keep a bottle of water with you -either invest in a large glass bottle you can bring with you to work or bring bottled water rather than drinking tap. I find if a bottle is in front of me, I will drink it. Have another pint of water in the evening while getting dinner ready Bring a pint of water to bed with you and finish it off when you wake in the morning ! Substitute normal tea and coffee for herbal teas -this is another way to increase your fluid intake! For men, their daily requirement of two litres of water is equivalent to just over three and a half pints. For women, their recommended intake of 1.6 litres of water is the equivalent of just under three pints! Day 53 of #75hard I get a lot of questions about my workouts. I’ve been on a roll for a couple weeks burning close to 1000 calories a day, and “exercising” for 2 hours - and I’ll admit, I love it. Every morning when I wake up and stretch I can FEELLLL the workout from the day prior, and it reminds me that I’M TAKING care of my body and THAT - THAT PART - makes me feel so damn good and proud and motivates me to keep going! SWIPE for 3 exercises to relieve stiffness after a long flight + a bonus tip at the bottom on the text👇🏻 1️⃣ Dynamic cat stretch to relax the tissue of the back and hips: focus on creating smooth movement. 2️⃣ Spine and adductor mobility to open up the anterior oblique sling: focus on keeping the hips still as you twist the spine. 3️⃣ Active stretch to lengthen out the hips flexors and quads: tuck your tailbone in, then pull the back foot towards the back of the hip as close as possible. ☕The day starts with breakfast, sitting down – enjoying that coffee! ⁠ ⁠ 🚗Then it’s time to jump in the car to rush the kids off to school. ⁠ ⁠ 🖥️On to the office/ home office where there’s lots of desk time, bar the odd trip to the kettle for a cuppa. ⁠ ⁠ 🍜Lunch, if time, is a quick walk round the block, but more often than not it’s too busy, so it’s lunch at the desk. ⁠ ⁠ 🚗Back in the car for after-school-club pick up and then an evening where there’s maybe bit of time standing (running about after the kids/ cooking dinner), but then after dinner (obviously sitting down) and once the kids are in bed, it’s time to relax on the sofa with a glass of wine, to unwind after a busy day.🍷⁠ ⁠ Yes there’s a flurry of activity when the kids are home from school, but there’s probably been the best part of 7 HOURS in a seated position. EEK⁠ ⁠ So you may be lucky and not feel any adverse effects from this lifestyle at the moment, but many of may suffer with neck/shoulder tension, headaches or a hunched posture and I'm afraid to say it will only get worse if you don't do something about it.⁠ ⁠ Clearly this is an extreme example of a day, but you get the point.⁠ ⁠ This past year has not been kind to us and we’ve spent more time seated than ever before and this affects our chest, upper back and neck (pushed into a forward position) as well as our hips and glutes. Lots of these muscles are shortening and lots are lengthening and switching off. ❓Do you want a more supple, flexible and agile body? ⁠ ⁠ This is where your mobility comes in and it’s not just when you’re doing your regular exercise, but also in daily life.⁠ ⁠ 🚶🏾‍♀️When you move better….you feel better! ⁠ ⁠ How you move has a massive impact on your quality of life – from putting the shopping away in those high up kitchen cupboards, to running about after the dog, to lifting the children, to performing a squat, to just sitting at your desk.⁠ ⁠ And it’s amazing as you get older (I’m certainly feeling it more), that you start with more stiffness and more random aches. ⁠ ⁠ 💷I wish I had a pound for every time I’ve heard a friend or client say they’ve twinged a muscle in their neck and they have no idea how it happened. I know I’ve had that and it’s generally put down to turning my head too fast or just sleeping funny!!
