Blessed Bealltainn 🌙🕯️🌿 I must say I enjoyed our Walpurgisnacht with my witchy films (Practical Magic, Teen Witch, + The Craft) and creating a delicious Beltane dinner with magical treats that I will share at some point. Today I soaked it in from the spring blooms to the weather to just being on the moment. I finished off the night with Robin Hood Men in Tights for some much needed laughs. I hope everyone had a beautiful Bealtaine. ☀️🌸💫 #Beltane #Bealtaine #Bealltainn

Bealltainn (Beltane) is one of the traditional Scottish Fire Festivals, or quarter days, and it is celebrated on the evening of the 30th of April and the 1st of May - (also known as May Day). It celebrates the coming of summer and the renewed fertility of the land. Each family that celebrates Beltane celebrates differently. We start the day by washing our faces in the morning dew, the wee children in our house especially like this, and the eldest daughter recites a poem or traditional blessing when our evening bonfire is at its best: To save, To shield, To surround The hearth, The house, The household, This eve, This night, Oh! this eve, This night, And every night, Each single night." We hope however you mark this day that you all have a wonderful and festive day and evening, even if you simply enjoy the bank holiday next week. #beltane #beltaine #bealltainn #scottishtradition #nanakatsapothecary #nonastiesskincare #naturalskincare #plantmagic

“If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow, don’t be alarmed now. It’s just a spring clean for the May Queen…” - Led Zeppelin. Happy May Day/Beltane/Bealltainn. I hope everyone had an eventful Walpurgis Night. Bealltainn is one of my favourite festivals despite the flowers and the fertility, there’s some very spooky goings on. #beltane #mayday #bealltainn #mayqueen #fertilityfestival #firefestival #witch #witches #witchesofinstagram #witchesofig #witchywoman #folkwitch #folkwitches #folkwitchesofinstagram #folkwitchesofscotland #thebarefootwitch

#libra♎️ For the early inhabitants of the British Isles, the most important cross-quarter day of the ancient #agrarian calendar wasn’t #Imbolc #Lughnasadh or #Samhuinn It was #Beltane (other spellings include #Beltaine and #Bealltainn ), which marked the start of #summer It was celebrated midway between the #springequinox and #summersolstice which, #astronomically speaking, varies each year but falls around May 5 or 6. Beltane “was essentially an agricultural festival,” and marked the time when cattle, particularly important in #ancient Ireland, were driven from sheltered winter locations to buaile, summer pastures bright with fresh grass. The famous #fires of Beltane, now associated with #purification “may have originated simply in the need to burn off brush before the fields and pastures were put into use.”Beltane, the cross-quarter day also marked the start of the #growing season in earnest. #Lughnasadh and #Samhuinn were all about gathering existing resources, but Beltane was the crucial time to create those resources. If you didn’t move your cattle to better pastures and get your garden in during this first spurt of summer, you probably wouldn’t have enough to survive the following winter. All of Beltane’s other elements, from purification to often #lusty #rituals around #fertility were layered on top of its original purpose on the agricultural calendar. Celebrating Beltane would have been a “luxury” for the early agrarians, whose main concerns were “the practicalities of producing food for survival,” Eventually, as calendar systems were codified across Europe (with first the #Julian and then #Gregorian calendars organizing the year), Beltane became fixed on April 30/May 1, bringing it into closer alignment with other #flower-and-fire #festivals such as the ancient #Roman #Floralia and Central Europe’s #Walpurgisnacht or #Čarodêjnice. All of these spring-into-summer #rites likely began as ancient acknowledgments. #tarot #tarotcards

#sagittarius♐️ For the early inhabitants of the British Isles, the most important cross-quarter day of the ancient #agrarian calendar wasn’t #Imbolc #Lughnasadh or #Samhuinn It was #Beltane (other spellings include #Beltaine and #Bealltainn ), which marked the start of #summer It was celebrated midway between the #springequinox and #summersolstice which, #astronomically speaking, varies each year but falls around May 5 or 6.

Beltaine greetings to you all! Original Celtic art by Hamish Burgess, the third of a series of four seasonal works. The old Celtic name for May Day is Bealltainn or now Beltane, ‘bright fire’, and the coming of Summer. The great wheel of the year turns again on the evening of April 30th, with ancient Celtic festival of Bealltainn, or Bealtaine in Irish, dedicated to the Sun God Bel, ‘the bright and shining one’. “BELTAINE” © Hamish Burgess 2011. Throwback to last Bealltainn when I left offerings for the fair folk in the hopes that they wouldn’t eat me…. I don’t know if I should do the same this year for the spirits in the wood (because they have taken an interest in me) or if I should just hunker down and not draw attention to myself… I’ll definitely be visiting the ancient yew trees though. #beltane #bealltainn #mayday #offerings #fairfolk #scottishfairfolk #thegoodfolk #spirits #witch #witches #witchesofscotland #witchesofinstagram #witchesofinsta #witchesofig #witchywoman #folkwitch #folkpractitioner #folkwitchesofinstagram #folkwitchesofscotland #folkwitchesofig #thebarefootwitch

🌸✨ Bealltainn Spell Bottles ✨🌸 With the hawthorn flowers blossoming Bealltainn (Beltane) is fast approaching! These spell bottles were a massive hit at our last market as decorative bottles for people's homes, altars, and witchy spaces. 🧹🔮 Here is everything that we include in them for bringing the energy and intentions of the sabbat: Hawthorn buds and leaves: Hawthorn flowers have long been a sign that Beltane/ May day had arrived. In addition, the tree itself is often seen in folklore as a gateway between us and the spirit world. Acorn: Symbolising the Green Man and his return to power. Sunflower Oil: A symbol of the sun and harnesses the fire element. Dog Roses: Often referenced to be able to give protection from witchcraft. Also known to symbolise passion and love. Rowan Berries: Offers protection from evil or malicious spirits. Bealltainn Symbol: Symbol for the celebration of Bealltainn. . #bealltainn #beltane #mayday #spellbottle #scottishfolklore #scottishwitch #scottishwitchcraft #witchery #spellwork #witchshop #sabbat #greenwitch #hedgewitch #seawitch

Blessings on Bealtaine and the Full Moon in Scorpio May 5 at 17:34 UTC,  1:34 pm EDT,  10:34 am PDT,  May 6 at 3:34 am AEST   On May 5th, we welcome the Full Moon in Scorpio, plus a penumbral lunar eclipse! This eclipse may not be as dramatic as others, and some may not even recognize an eclipse is happening. Why? Grandmother Moon moves through the outer part of the Earth’s shadow (known as the penumbra) and may appear to dim only slightly.   But that is not the only significance of this Full Moon. Many also celebrate it as Lunar Bealtaine, the beginning of the Light Half of the year in Celtic cosmology, marked by the Full Moon closest to the traditional celebration date of May 1st. And it is also the date of “true” (aka Solar) Bealtaine, the precise midpoint between the March Equinox and the June Solstice. This year, that date is May 5 at 12:25 UTC.   Bealtaine is a time to celebrate fertility, fecundity and the sensual aspect of our selves, and the influence of the Full Moon in Scorpio kicks that up a notch. Emotions may run high. Tact and diplomacy may go by the wayside. Sexuality and sensuality may increase. If you wish to bring an emotional intensity into your Bealtaine or Full Moon soul work, this is the time to do so!   At this time of the Full Moon, empowered by Scorpio and the beginning of the Light Half of the year, marked by lunar-solar Bealtaine, let this light shine within to your true self and let that self shine to the world.   Declare who you are. Affirm who you are. Be who you are. Image: Buds of Hawthorn — the Queen of the May — on the verge of blossoming in my neighbourhood

Ah the happy/sad faces - Beltane greetings to you all! This was a walk a few days ago where we did a traditional bannock roll to foretell good or bad luck for the upcoming season. Mixed results 😉 I'm hoping all you lassies remembered to wash your faces in the dawn dew this morning, to keep youse looking young! Other Bealltainn traditions include making bonfires to walk around, leap over or pass between, usually with cattle, visiting holy wells, and decorating doors and windows with yellow flowers such as broom (but here in the strath the broom is not quite out yet...) Happy Latha Buidhe Bealltainn to all, (the yellow or bright day of Beltane) the first day of proper summer, and hello to Brìde who will reign over us during these summer months. . . . #beltane #bealltainn #lathabuidhebealltainn #traditions #customs #folkcustoms #bannock #bonnach #bannockrolling #culture #heritage #dualchas #cairngorms #cairngormsnationalpark #aviemore #lovescotland #explorescotland #hiddenscotland #celtic #celticbeliefs #wheelofyear #crossquarterday #scottishhighlands

Bealltainn marks the mid point between the spring equinox and summer solstice. It is an ancient pagan Celtic holiday that celebrated the movement of herds to open pasture. FIRE was a huge part of any ritual, several traditions are still practiced today. You can create your own May Day celebrations by: Walk between two bonfires (or candles if a bonfire isn’t feasible) to invoke the protective spirits of fire. Decorate your own May Bough (hawthorn, rowan, holly or sycamore are traditionally used, but any branch from a thorny tree will do) with flowers, ribbons, and painted shells. Place yellow and white flowers in windowsills and across doorways. Collect morning dew and use it to wash your face. #bealltainn #bealltainnblessings #beltanefirefestival #thistledownwellness #treaty6territory #yegwomen #yegbusiness #yegwomaninbusiness #yegmassagetherapy #yegsmallbusiness #yegmassagetherapist #yegwellness #yegmassage

Bealtaine Blessings! From today's @innerjourneyevents blog: Sacred Smoke: Craft a Bealtaine Incense At each of the eight major Celtic celebrations in the year, I like to bring in traditions and rituals that celebrate the three realms of Celtic cosmology: Land, Sea and Sky. Incense and sacred smoke (some know this as “smudging” or “saining” ) connect us to the realm of Sky, and carry our intentions and prayers through the Air to our personal deities. Bealtaine is strongly associated with fires and sacred smoke, so each year I make a new Bealtaine incense, or adapt an old favourite. This year I am returning to an old favourite, and may adapt it slightly by adding in some hawthorn flowers or leaves. After all, the hawthorn is known as the Queen of the May, and is strongly associated with Bealtaine. For me sacred smoke is meaningful and cleansing in so many ways, and I use my blends for each season (Samhain, Winter Solstice, Imbolg, Spring Equinox, etc) throughout the season, not just on the day. Read on in the blog (⬆️link in profile⬆️) for: * Richard Wagamese’s words and blessings about sacred smoke and what it meant to him, from his book Embers, One Ojibway’s Meditations * Considerations for creating sacred smoke * Preparing your loose incense ingredients * Declaring your intentions * Recipe for my favourite Bealtaine loose incense

Midway betwixt Equinox and Solstice, flames to welcome Bealltainn. A ritual honoring the magic spun in the depths around us, the cyclic fertility of nature, and the beauty of high spring. A remembrance that life is born from death, and death from life. Offerings of starwort and acorn for spirits of unseen realms, carried upon chant for love, strength and abundance. Come nightfall, a dram of faerie whisky and the sparking of a tein-eigen need fire kindled with branchlets of oak, a passage through its smoke and sigil dusting with its ash. A cauldron of ashen water steamed for spirits of the gardens. Beautiful olde rituals of my Scottish blood in seeking the Sun God’s protection for all. Have a beautiful Bealltainn ⌖ / a beautiful Samhain to SH friends ☽ ᚠ ᛖ ᛜᛉ #scottishwitch #paganritual #scottishfolklore © @witch.room
