I always tell people that I am good at two things, and the second is carrying stuff. That's the story. I'm teaching a workshop on lessons borrowed (stolen) from brand marketing that you can apply to several areas of your writing career, both in writing stories and in the meta of, like, developing the entrepreneurial business side of being a writer. It comes down to audience avatars. I talk about it a bit in my reels. Want to come to @rmfwriters's conference? @chuck_wendig is going to be there. #dorothy #chuckwendig #oliverblakemore #brandmarketing #stories #writingcommunity #metalhead #iamrmfw #rockymountainfictionwriters #coloradogoldconference #writingconference

Piper’s Picks, Vol. 55 I don’t know enough superlatives to adequately review Wanderers (and I know A LOT of words), but here’s what’s worse: I haven’t the slightest idea how to review it without spoiling the immense joy packed within its pages. Let’s try this. Wanderers is a high-wire balancing act about the end of the world. Not what happens AFTER the end of the world – which is the path most apocalyptic fiction treads – but how we got there in the first place. It’s a story told on a massive transcontinental tapestry featuring a couple dozen major characters that feels as intimate as a ghost story whispered around a flickering campfire. Not good enough? Maybe this, then: Shana Stewart awakes one morning to find her younger sister walking down the road. She’s vacant-eyed, unresponsive. Another person joins her. And another. The CDC is called in. When they try to take a blood sample from one of the sleepwalkers, the needle breaks on the person’s skin. And, if any of the walkers’ forward momentum is physically arrested, the person’s temperature dramatically rises and they immediately begin to have a seizure. Soon, the number of sleepwalkers numbers in the hundreds. And it’s just beginning. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Wanderers is that it ultimately ends up going in directions that we never see coming. We’re given glimpses of these plot strands in interludes that hint at the conflict to come, but their eventual merger is laugh-out-loud-in-disbelief genius. Wanderers exists at the intersection of a pandemic, white supremacy, religious fervor, nanotechnology, the true meaning of family, artificial intelligence, and the salvation to be found in good ol’ fashioned rock n’ roll – and it sticks the landing on EVERY. SINGLE. SUBPLOT. And that’s to Chuck Wendig’s credit as an author who’s given us a meticulously plotted epic inhabited by a cast of characters who are so finely drawn they might as well be our next-door neighbors. It’s a virtuoso performance that needs to be at the top of everyone’s list, it’s one of the most satisfying reading experiences I can recall, and it absolutely landed on my all-time Top 10 list.

I owe Chuck Wendig a lot. ‌ In Wanderers and Wayward, he gave me two of my favorite books of the last five years. Wanderers, in fact, immediately leapt into my All-Time Top 10, and Wayward is lurking in the Top 20. ‌ The Book of Accidents was in my year-end Top 10 a couple years ago, and Black River Orchard accomplished the same feat last year. ‌ I’ve just started reading his Miriam Black series, but even after just one book I’m excited to read further. ‌ But, later this evening, all that might be donezo, the scales might be balanced, karmic equilibrium might be achieved. ‌ Because, thanks to one of his recent blog posts, he convinced me to track down a bottle of this booze. ‌ I haven’t tried it yet, but yes: the word on the street is that it’s like drinking a bag of Doritos. ‌ Will it be good? Chuck assures his readers it will. ‌ Even so: ‌ I reserve the right to be horrified. ‌ And I don’t want to say all the good he’s done my reading life will be erased with a single swig, but I don’t NOT want to say that if this hooch turns out to be carcinogenic. ‌ Check my stories later tonight for the verdict. ‌ ‌ #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bibliophile #bookworm #instabooks #booklover #booknerd #bookish #teacherswhoread #readmorebooks #booksta #chuckwendig #wanderers #wayward #empirical #doritos

✨ Two for Tuesday!✨ I have read the first book in this series, Wanderers, and really enjoyed it. It shades DNA with Stephen King's The Stand, but is its own unique book, telling of our current times. It was hard to believe it was written pre-pandemic with how prescient it is! I haven't gotten to the sequel, Wayward, yet - mostly because it is another thick book and my TBR list has grown from a stack on my nightstand to am entire bookshelf. 😅 It might be a good beach vacation book this year like Wanderers was a few years ago! . #wanderers #wayward #chuckwendig #thickspines #thickbooks #chunkybooks #tbrbooks #tbrlist #twofortuesday #needtoread

🌸 April Reads 🌸 Wayward by Chuck Wendig 💫💫💫💫💫 An epic sequel with everything that was great about the first and more - just consistently excellent. This one felt like less happened but wasn't any less exciting or tense or amazing. The characters all came to a fitting end (sorry one character who won't be named) and the eerieness was perfect throughout. Sososo psyched for the TV show <3 The cats we meet along the way by Nadia Mikail 💫💫💫1/2 This was cute! What I liked most were the descriptions of home and human nature - those passages felt very warm and relatable. The characters were all good, but the plot surrounding the end of the world was a little bit meh - I guess it didn't need to go into much more detail though, as a short kids book. It was sweet, only one cat though? Seven empty houses by Samanta Schweblin 💫💫💫 Unsure about this oneee. I liked the vibe, but if there were deeper messages/meanings to the stories, I missed them. I enjoyed the weirdness but wanted it to be weirder to be more engaged. I liked 'An unlucky man' and 'None of that' but yeah, not sure. 🌸🦋🌸🦋🌸🦋 #chuckwendig #aprilreads #currentlyreading

📚 𝙱 𝙾 𝙾 𝙺 ∙ 𝚁 𝙴 𝚅 𝙸 𝙴 𝚆 📚 Swipe ➡️ for the longform review, and scroll ⬇️ for casual book chat! Title: The Book of Accidents Author: Chuck Wendig Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 • This was such a frustrating read 😖 When I found it at Barnes & Noble, I’d never heard of it but the synopsis intrigued me, so I decided to buy it because I had a gift card. I wanted to like it so badly, and even though there were some aspects I enjoyed, overall it fell flat. The Book of Accidents is a harrowing family saga about generational trauma, empathy, and the strength that familial bonds give us to weather the storms life throws our way. It’s a horror story, and while that aspect was executed flawlessly, the character depth and writing quality needed for this type of book to work just weren’t there 🤷‍♀️ Nothing about the Graves family felt realistic, from their interactions with one another, to how they behaved when they were alone. There was little chemistry between the characters and everything felt forced, so I wasn’t able to fully immerse myself in the story. At times, Wendig knocked it out of the park emotion and imagery-wise, but he would backtrack and undercut his own writing with poorly timed or just plain cheesy comedic relief or pop culture references. This didn’t work at all for me, and I’m unsure if that’s because I don’t jive with that type of thing, or if it was just poor execution. Without giving too much away, there’s a “twist” that I saw coming a mile away, which was disappointing. This isn’t a thriller so I didn’t dock my review, but more could have been done there. With that being said, there were some things that I loved! The slow build up created such an intense, eerie atmosphere, there was a lingering sense of dread throughout that I adored, and the commentary on trauma left a lasting impression on me. Even though it wasn’t my favorite, there was enough good that I would selectively recommend this one based on what someone’s looking for in their next read. 💬 Have you read The Book of Accidents? If so, let me know what you thought! • #bookreview #thebookofaccidents #chuckwendig #horrorbooks #horrorbookreviews #3starread #bookishlife

. . . #carteaaccidentelor #chuckwendig #thriller #thrillerbooks #booklover #bookstagram #cititorpasionat #cititordinromania #goodreads #goodreadschallenge #câtecărțiatâteavieți

Reading from the POV of a teenage girl as imagined by a male author is almost always rough, and Black River Orchard was no exception. Calla's POV was so hard to take seriously, made worse by one of my personal most hated things that male authors do when trying to write from the POV of a woman, which was using "UGH!" as part of an internal thought. I promise, no one in the history of the world thinks a whiny sound of frustration in their head. While there were some components to the story that I enjoyed individually, and the last 20% of the novel came together really nicely, the first 80% was a slog. I definitely would have dnfed if I hadn't purchased it through LibroFM. 😕 . . . #BlackRiverOrchard #ChuckWendig #Bookstagram #Bookstagrammer #BooksOfInstagram #BooksBooksBooks #BookstagramFeature #Books #Love #PhotoOfTheDay #Photography #Reading #Literature #ReadingList #ReadersOfInstagram #Bookworm #BookLovers #BooksInNature

I really liked the horror elements in the story and thought they were well executed, and I enjoyed the exploration of generational trauma and the impact it has on us and our families as adults, but the characters and the writing itself just didn’t land for me.

🫖📖 Even though I am behind on my reading challenge, I’m being drawn into big epics like A Child Alone With Strangers by Philip Fracassi, and now Black River Orchard by Chuck Wendig. I have a friend through the library I work at that always asks me for book recommendations. He reads avidly and lately I’ve had to dip into some of the books on my TBR to recommend to him. He recently read Black River Orchard as per my suggestion. When he messaged me about it I was worried he didn’t like it because I hadn’t read it yet and had no idea. Well apparently the book blew him off his feet and he LOVED it, so needless to say it has climbed to the top of my TBR list and it’s what I’m currently reading this week. May the forces of evil become confused on the way to your house.-George Carlin Chuck Wendig’s “The Book of Accidents” is a captivating fusion of horror, mystery, and dark fantasy that pays homage to the master of horror himself, Stephen King, while carving its own unique path through the multiverse of storytelling. At its core, the novel delves into themes of family, destiny, and the inescapable pull of the past, all wrapped in a white knuckle cosmic narrative. Wendig masterfully weaves together multiple worlds, reminiscent of King’s iconic works such as “The Dark Tower” series, introducing readers to the concept of thinny—a thin spot between dimensions where the fabric of reality wears thin, allowing passage between worlds. This multiverse adds layers of complexity to the story, inviting readers to explore the interconnectedness of different realities and the impact of choices made across them. No spoilers, but I also felt there was a serious nod to The Ritual of Chud👀 The presence of twinners, doppelgängers from alternate worlds, adds an eerie dimension to the narrative, blurring the lines between identity and fate. Wendig skillfully utilizes this concept to delve into questions of nature versus nurture, exploring how similar individuals can diverge drastically based on their experiences in different worlds. Entropy looms large throughout the narrative, serving as a force of chaos and decay that threatens to consume everything in its path. Wendig expertly uses entropy as a metaphor for the relentless march of time and the inevitability of change, adding a sense of urgency and existential dread to the story. The ambiguous ending of “The Book of Accidents” leaves readers pondering the nature of reality and the choices that shape our destinies. In conclusion, “The Book of Accidents” is a haunting and immersive journey through the shadows of multiple worlds, filled with echoes of Stephen King’s influence and yet wholly original in its execution. I like big books and I cannot lie? ‌ Actually, no I don’t. ‌ There are obviously some I enjoy, but generally speaking, when it comes to a choice between a massive brick of a book and a lean 300-400 pager, that’s no choice at all. ‌ I’m all about economy and efficiency. ‌ Give me a short book, a 90-minute movie, an 8-12 song album totaling 30-40 minutes. ‌ In and out. No fuss, no muss. ‌ These books don’t do that. ⠀ Aaaaaaaand, as I was pulling stuff off my shelf for this photo, it seemed totally in character that these 700+ page doorstops were all written by men. ⠀ Now, I’m not saying women haven’t written big books, but leave it to the dudes to feel like they need to assert their dominance by waving all these pages around. ⠀ C’mon, men: next time maybe talk less and listen more. ⠀ QOTD: What’s your favorite epic-length book? ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bibliophile #bookworm #instabooks #booklover #booknerd #bookish #teacherswhoread #readmorebooks #booksta #terrybrooks #clivebarker #chuckwendig #jamesellroy #donwinslow #joehill #davidfosterwallace #dansimmons #russellbanks #stephenking #stephenkingbooks

When it comes to the authors we love, we probably all know which book of theirs we consider our favorite. ‌ But how about our SECOND-favorite? ‌ A little trickier, right? ‌ I’m talking about a book you adore, but for whatever ineffable reason, it just misses the top spot – or might even occupy the top spot on certain days of the week or when the mood hits you just right. ‌ They’re great books. Make no mistake. ‌ They’re just not your favorite book by the author in question. ‌ If you’re having trouble conceptualizing what I mean, here are 16 of my own #2s. ‌ (Eeeewwwww.) ‌ I’m wild about all these books – positively daffy, I tell you – but there’s one more book by each author I like just a tad – a bit, a skosh – more. ‌ Just for giggles, here’s the list of my favorite books by these authors. These are the ones that just barely edged out each book in this photo for the #1 spot. From top to bottom: ‌ Elmore Leonard – Out of Sight Kurt Vonnegut – Slaughterhouse-Five Stephen King – Pet Sematary T.C. Boyle – A Friend of the Earth Jennifer Egan – A Visit from the Goon Squad Neil Gaiman – The Ocean at the End of the Lane Dave Eggers – A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius Chuck Wendig – Wanderers Michael Chabon – Wonder Boys Tana French – In the Woods Jonathan Janz – Wolf Land Stephen Graham Jones – The Only Good Indians Cormac McCarthy – The Road Peter Heller – The Dog Stars Ania Ahlborn – Brother Don Winslow – The Border ‌ QOTD: Give me the title of your second-favorite book by an author you love. It's #ThickThursday... 🎶🎶🎶 @grantreads inspired me to post about the #chunkybooks that have been glaring at me every time I decide to read a shorter book instead. I've heard great things about all of these, and two of them are sequels to books I really liked, and yet I find it daunting to get into. Which one do you think I should start with? “Quella non fu la fine. Cose di questo genere hanno un modo di vivere, di tramandarsi da una persona all’altra. Amore e dolore, trauma e speranza, luce e tenebra. Girano e rigirano, alcune come doni, altre come maledizioni. ✨The book of accidents di Chuck Wendig è particolare, strano, surreale.

I love reading, I love writing... and I also love reading about writing 🖊️ Whenever I need an extra kick of motivation, I reach for a craft book. The first one I ever read was ON WRITING by Stephen King, a classic which I'm sure most writers have at least heard of. I find it incredibly inspiring and motivating to read (or listen) to other writers talk about their journey to publication and their writing process. This is also why I love listening to writing podcasts, going to author events and watching writers' videos on TikTok or YouTube. When it comes to craft books though, it is important to take everything with a grain of salt. There is no one way to be a writer, and anything presented as an ironclad rule should be questioned. I enjoyed GENTLE WRITING ADVICE so much because it acknowledged all of this – Chuck Wendig took great pains to emphasise that his advice was just one way of looking at things. GENTLE WRITING ADVICE was also more about advising writers how to not be too had on themselves, and how to integrate writing into your life as a sustainable, longterm practice. If you're a writer and you're looking for a little extra motivation, I'd definitely recommend GENTLE WRITING ADVICE. I gave it 4/5 stars 🌟

I was on a mission to find a book that was completely different from anything I normally read. I wanted something fresh where the author had to be creative and imaginative, yet still have a dark side. I UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT! lol. This book was ALL of that! As crazy as it sounds, as weird as it sounds .. it was chef's kiss. Imagine THE perfect, most delicious apple to have ever existed. Eating this apple makes you feel like you're on top of the world (much like a drug). Your aches and pains disappear. Eye sight improves. Even broken bones mend themselves! But as with all things that seem too good to be true, it comes with a price. How can a book about an apple be so interesting and intense and twisted? Sounds crazy huh. But this one nailed it. I know this will live rent free in my head for years! I may never walk through the produce isle the same 🤣🤣🤣 I definitely give this a 5 outta 5!! After reading some of the descriptions of the author's other books, I will definitely be checking them out! #booklover #bookstagram #booknerd #bookworm #readingaddict #chuckwendig

⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #wanderers is long haul but not a race to the finish line. Apocalyptic vibes with some sci-fi mixed in, the journey is the main draw to this read. Ending leaves it open to the sequel: Wayward (which has now been added to the tbr) My second #chuckwendig venture (& a 3rd in progress!) Definitely developing a soft spot for his writing style ✍️

‘Blackbirds’, Chuck Wendig, 2012 ➕ straight to the point, precise writing ➕ absolute-page turner ➕ nice dark humor ➕ the ‘female protagonist traumatized enough to make her therapist need a therapist’ trope might just be one of my faves. I wonder what it says about me. ➖ the second use of the ‘piss-yellow’ adjective was redundant, we get it, sir, you’re edgy ➖ consequences? we don’t know her ➖ some symptoms of instalove ➖ a severe case of a woman written by a man’ ❗ TW described on slide 4 To be fair, the ‘girl who can foresee death’ concept isn’t something new, I’ve seen it before, namely in Rachel Ward’s ‘Numbers’ that I read ages ago. But it’s definitely used more interestingly here. Miriam Black wanders from one doomed sod to another, acquainting herself with human mortality over and over and becoming more and more cynical in the process. But then she meets someone with, like, a pinch of human decency and is trying to change the future. Well, sorta. Kinda. Occasionally. And yes, in a way, we're all doomed sods, just the matter of time. All in all – a great quick read if you don’t mind some gore and body horror, violence and explicit language. Considering it’s only the first part of the series, the story is far from over. If I pick up the next one, it’ll probably be because I still want to know not only how it ends, but also how it started. So that choice seems to be working so far, well played Chuck. #chuckwendig #blackbirds #miriamblack #contemporaryfiction #books

A family returns to their hometown and to the dark past that haunts them still. Long ago, Nathan lived in a house in the country with his abusive father and he has never told his family what happened there. Long ago, Maddie saw something she shouldn't have and she is trying to remember that lost trauma by making haunting sculptures. Long ago, something sinister, something hungry, walked in the tunnels, mountains, and coal mines of their hometown in rural Pennsylvania. Now, Nathan and Maddie are married, and they have moved back to their hometown. And now what happened long ago is happening again, and it is happening to their son. It's been a while since I read a book and I screamed so much and so many times 😂. I could see myself reading this in one sitting, despite it being 500+ pages because of the short chapters and good flow of writing. I just wanted to know what happens next. This is a supernatural horror story that started out as something, ended up being a different story 😐. I really love the ending, it was so hopeful and optimistic. This is a story about fighting your own demons and trauma, how you are so capable of being better despite your past. It's a story about sharing the pain for reflection rather than projecting the pain to torture other people. I love how there's such a hopeful message in such a scary story. . People are saying that @chuck_wendig is the next Stephen King and I can totally see that. Stephen King's writing can be quite heavy and intense for me, which feels opposite to Wendig's writing. If you're a horror or Stephen King fan, this will definitely be up your alley. If you're a fan of Marvel Loki and Dr. Strange, this will be up your alley too 😉. I'll be looking out for Wanderers next! . Personal rating: 5/5 ⭐ #theanismanisreads #chuckwendig #thebookofaccidents #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksta

I got my husband The Book of Accidents by @chuck_wendig, and I’m thrilled that he loved it. He and I read totally different things—I get scared too easily to read horror—but I love finding bookstagrammers’ reviews of books I think my husband will like. He enjoyed this one so much that I got him another Chuck Wendig book, Black River Orchard for Easter. Here’s his husband review: Husband (H): I’m trying to remember everything I read, but it was so scary I may have blocked some of it out. It may have caused me trauma. Me (M): So this book was that scary? H: Yes. There’s a serial killer in it, Mary. Who likes numbers. M: Which is scarier? The numbers or the serial killer? H: It’s how the serial killer uses the numbers that’s scary. The book has the right balance of horror, but there’s a little science fiction in it, and a lot of fantasy. And fantasy magic drives me nuts when it doesn’t make sense, but in this book it has internal consistency. Also, I’m a sucker for father son stories, which is what’s at the core of this one. And there’s something in this book about being your own father. M: Is that a spoiler? H: No. Because it’s not accurate. It’s figurative, Mary, not literal. M: Would you recommend this? H: Oh yeah. Chuck Wendig’s writing is as good as Stephen King’s, but he knows when to move onto the next thing. M: Are you saying Stephen King is long-winded? H: No. I’m saying Chuck Wendig is on point. M: I heard about this book on Bookstagram. What do you think about my hobby now? H: Is that what you do all day? That was a joke. Can you put a winky on the end so everyone knows I’m not being a jerk. M: Everyone knows you’re not a jerk because you’re doing this husband review. H: Back to the point, somebody needs to make a movie out of this book, and everybody should buy a copy. Or half the people need to buy two copies and give one to a friend. M: So you’re saying everyone should read this book. H: It couldn’t hurt. Do you have a reader in your life who reads completely different genres from you?

. . . #thebookofaccidents #chuckwendig #fanuccieditore #librihorror #ticonsigliounlibro #libridaleggere #ioleggo #bookstagrammer #bookstagram

BOOK REVIEW: Wanderers by Chuck Wendig ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ How soon is too soon to be buying the 800 page sequel to the 800 page book I just finished? j/k I'm heading to Bargain Books later to see if I can find it. @bargainbookssa This is an epic post-apocalyptic trek through our dying world. Series (Wanderers #1) I have mixed feelings about this book…. Firstly, I listened to the entire book and I think that was one of the main problems I had with the book. It was just really prolonged for what the concept is. The first 60% of the book felt like we were moving at a slow walking pace (ha. ha…) and then it finally picked up in the rest of the book. The first part we just, read about them walking.. that felt like it. Sure the other storyline’s were being introduced but it felt too slow. However once everything finally came along I was a big fan of how it was written and also how it came together. But I have to say, Shana is possibly my least favourite character in any book I have read. Her attitude sucked and she brought nothing but angst to the book. Idk if I will read book 2 :/ #wanderers #chuckwendig #wayward #books #bookstagram #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #booklover #bookaddict #delrey #delreypublishing

"The Book of Accidents" by Chuck Wendig is an emotionally gripping masterpiece that delves deep into the intricacies of human nature, love, and the haunting power of the past. Wendig's storytelling prowess shines through as he weaves together a tapestry of suspense, supernatural elements, and raw emotion that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. With characters so vividly drawn, they feel like old friends, and a plot so intricately crafted, it's impossible to put down, this book is a true testament to Wendig's talent as a writer. 🍀 March Wrap Up! 📚 🌷As spring began to show its face, I read a total of 9 books and dabbled with two others. I came close to completing my TBR, with a page count of 3,745. In March, I tracked down the Antichrist, met myself from another dimension, was mesmerized by a grapefruit, struggled to find myself, parted ways with my shadow, had a glass of champagne with a teddy bear named Aloysius, was nourished by salt water, practiced transcendental meditation with my favorite director, and laced raisins with sleeping medication. I also took a brief trip to Rome where I met an array of bandits, and took a few ballet lessons. 📖To break it down, I read: 1. Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett 🌟🌟🌟🌟 2. The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wendig 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 3. Wizard & Glass (The Dark Tower IV) by Stephen King 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 4. Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami 🌟🌟🌟🌟 5. Normal People by Sally Rooney 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 6. Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh 🌟🌟🌟💫 7. Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield 🌟🌟🌟🌟 8. Room to Dream by David Lynch & Kristine McKenna 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 9. Danny, The Champion of the World by Roald Dahl 🌟🌟🌟💫 + 86 pages of The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas & 180 pages of Petals on the Wind by V.C. Andrews If I had to choose a favorite read for this month, it would be Normal People, but there were so many wonderful books in this stack. 🍿In addition to my reads, I also watched a few films: - Titane (2021) directed by Julia Ducournau - Poor Things (2023) directed by Yorgos Lanthimos - Brideshead Revisited (2008) directed by Julian Jarrold 🌸I hope everyone had a lovely March, and please feel free to tell me what your favorite book was this month! #bookstack #bookstagram #goodomens #neilgaiman #terrypratchett #thebookofaccidents #chuckwendig #stephenking #wizardandglass #thedarktower #hardboiledwonderlandandtheendoftheworld #harukimurakami #normalpeople #sallyrooney #bridesheadrevisited #evelynwaugh #ourwivesunderthesea #juliaarmfield #roomtodream #davidlynch #dannythechampionoftheworld #roalddahl #petalsonthewind #vcandrews #march #reading #marchwrapup

No rest for the booksellers of this world, so it’s back to work and back to #lunchtimelistens on this lovely bank holiday Monday. I enjoyed the Aftermath series by Chuck Wendig so I was happy to open up Audible to find that his story We Don’t Serve Their Kind Here was up next. This is the story of the barkeep who unceremoniously kick out R2D2 and C3PO and I must say it was a fun read. With some interesting ties back to The Clone Wars, I love that this story really does expand on a day in the life of someone pretty ordinary. The little cameo by Doctor Aphra alumni Cornelius Evazan didn’t hurt either! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #starwarsbooks #starwars #fromacertainpointofview #wedontservetheirkindhere #chuckwendig #shortstories #audiobook

In Chuck Wendig’s latest narrative, the poisoned allure of a Pennsylvania apple orchard serves as a backdrop for a tale brimming with rich characterization and vivid imagery. Wendig’s narrative pulsates with suspense, fueled by an ancient malevolence lurking in the heart of Harrow, Pennsylvania. Dan Paxson’s quest to resurrect his family’s orchard legacy for his daughter, Calla, unwittingly introduces a sinister species of apple, the Ruby Slipper, setting off a chain of eerie events. As Dan dreams of prosperity, the orchard’s apples reveal their transformative effects, imbuing consumers with strength and hostility. Amidst this turmoil, peculiar yet endearing figures emerge: John Compass, a modern-day amalgamation of soldier and Quaker, and Edward Naberius, a mysterious figure cloaked in white. Wendig masterfully paints a portrait of a community drawn into the orchard’s orbit, with characters like Calla, her boyfriend Marco, and a host of colorful townsfolk. From cult-like undertones to chilling explorations of human cruelty juxtaposed with grotesque consequences, Wendig’s narrative skillfully navigates intricate layers of intrigue. Through adept characterization and evocative imagery, Wendig crafts a narrative that is both haunting and captivating, offering a compelling allegory of mankind’s capacity for malevolence. This was my first read of Wendig’s and I enjoyed. I also wish I would’ve saved it for Autumn.
