I just finished #TheHospital by @wolfe.leslie and honestly it was a hard read. Well, listen. I listened to the audiobook. This book was slow. It did pick up in the end but nothing was life changing. It was a "who done it" kind of book and honestly, it was confusing. The jumps between timelines were hard to keep up with, especially in the same chapter. I really wanted to like this book but it just fell flat to me. There appear nonfictional figures like Paul Bocuse or Alain Ducasse and I got confused what is real and what is fictional. As well as the glory chefs get, the solitude, dedication to gastronomy, jealousy from the competitors, criticism by food critics or customers, and various behind-the scenes are written so vividly that I got the chills. 🌸The divorce🌸 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bea and Niklas had everything but after an argument he leaves seemingly out of nowhere. He’s gone for days and the rage starts to build inside of Bea, you just don’t throw away an entire marriage and the family you share that easily. They stay separated over the summer and when it’s time to return to reality Niklas requests a divorce. Could she have seen this coming? Is it always the one leaving who’s the bad guy? What could be unveiled when you start scratching at the surface? I don’t read a lot of books in Swedish although I couldn’t resist picking this one up. I’ve heard great things about it and the cover is so cute. An English translation will be released this summer. The topic of divorce and all that it entails is something most people can relate to. We all know someone’s who’s gone thru it and despite that it’s not free talked about. Two peoples experience can be completely different and small things can fester and eventually become insurmountable. Bea struggles with her husband’s decision and him dating someone else. Their kids are put in a rough spot feeling forced to pick sides and that really upset me. My parents got divorced while it wasn’t easy they stayed friends and this book made me realize how much worse it could’ve been. They always spend the summers on Gotland (a Swedish island) at Niklas parents. Bea has a great relationship with them and her going there causes even more drama. That felt a bit unnecessary. It feels a bit dragged out as it takes Bea a long time to process everything. Not my favorite read but it’s thought provoking and I don’t regret reading it and actually bought the sequel. 💭What have you been up to this weekend?

But I felt like Daughter of Mine was just okay. Hazel comes back to the small town that she grew up in to attend her father, Holt’s, funeral. || Book Review || The Fury By: Alex Michaelides Lana Farrar, an ex-movie star gloomy with the rainy weather of London, decides the Easter holiday will be best spent with her husband, son and closest friends on her private Greek island. What was intended to be a relaxing holiday quickly turns to a night of dark secrets and murder. One of the island goers is found dead and the suspects can only be those on the island. Narrated by Elliot Chase, Lana’s friend and playwright, the story weaves together the dangers of loving those who are close to you. Compared to The Silent Patient (5⭐️) and The Maidens (4⭐️) this was more predictable and the twists didn’t feel as shocking. I disliked all of the characters, except Agathi, and felt that having the narrator constantly flipping back and forth to set up some future event made the first 3/4 of the book drag by. That’s another part I didn’t really like - the narrator. I feel like it would have been more interesting to alternate between Elliot and Lana so you could see both sides of the story coming together. Overall a quick read that was predictable and a little slow. The rapport and the events haircut at clerkwell. I was sad that vicky is no longer Conrad's partner. Some parts were very predictable and I felt I'd missed out on a few stories. I did dislike the hints to the novellas and now I've realised I've got to read those to keep up with what's going on. On looking for the novellas I also saw the jigsaw project which makes sense on why I feel like I'd missed something with that. To know that there are all these extra books that seem to be mentioned in the storyline quite often has made me feel quite overwhelmed. 12 books in this series 8 in the novellas 3 in the jigsaw project My adhd won't let me continue until I've read the others and caught up in the series in the correct order. I always thought novellas were meant to be little side stories and not critical to the storyline. However, I loved the plot twist in the end. That was unexpected!! Have you read this book or series? We forgot to take a photo but we enjoyed a bottle of @grace_vineyard_judy Chairman’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc blend from Shanxi. It is on the wine list after Sato and Hiromi-san visited the winery. If you get a chance their cold brewed teas are a revelation. Super spoiled in January having dinner @ta_vie_hk twice, first to celebrate our wedding anniversary, 21 years married, 25 years together. Ta Vie husband (Sato-san) and wife (Hiromi-San) team had since earned three Michelin stars since we were last there and as it was before, our meal was perfection with such delicate but complimentary flavours with perfect cuisson. Slip into something spicy with the Daddy Sized Series, bursting at the seams with curvy untouched heroines and possessive older daddies who can’t keep their hands to themselves. These novellas are fast and filthy age-gap instalove romances with NO cheating (between the hero and heroine) or cliffhangers between books, and a guaranteed HEA. My Review: Soooo I did not like this lol. BUT It’s not bad! Just not my thing. The writing is good, it’s just the overall theme that I had issues with. I’m not into the daddy romances. I know what you’re thinking. “Then why did you decide to read a book titled Daddy Sized?” I knew from the start that there was a good chance that I wouldn’t like it based off the title, but I got it in a monthly book box and I wanted to give it a chance. I read the first one (there are four short stories in this collection) and half of the second one before I decided I had enough. If you are into daddy romances though then I’m sure you’ll love it! The stories themselves were cute and I love me a good age gap but I just couldn’t with the daddy thing (I don’t mean any offense to anyone that likes it). The paperback version of the book that I have is very pretty though and it’s got some really good NSFW art in it. ⭐⭐⭐ Book 7/30 It's 3 stars for my latest read, The Stranger Beside Me by Caroline England. It's a very pleasant book, easy to read but boring. That is until the very last quarter of the book (maybe even shorter than that) where everything suddenly becomes exciting, fast paced and interesting. If the lead up had been a lot shorter and the story based more on the last few chapters it could have been an amazing book but unfortunately all the good bits felt rushed and crammed in at the end. Overall I enjoyed listening to this one because of the different narrators but I didn’t really like any of the characters enough to feel invested in the story. Everything was a lie on top of a lie and even when someone knew another character was lying they didn’t tell the person who lied and then anyone in the way just got murdered. So the moral of the story is don’t tell anyone you know they’re a liar because they’ll kill you. 📖Book Review for The Dying Game by Asa Advic📖 Anna is a workaholic, working nonstop in her bureaucratic job in Sweden, which is ruled by the Union of Friendship out of Russia. She is someone very well known for her humanitarian work in a war zone not long ago, but there are dark rumors surrounding her leave and return to Sweden. A top secret intelligence agency think Anna is just the person they need to help conduct a test on a remote island; she must stage her death and watch how others in the group react. 🔪 I was pulled into the book by the premise and was definitely hooked for a good portion of the book, but for me it just ends up falling apart. The test with Anna’s fake death starts off very interesting, like a dystopian “And Then There Were None.” But then it just gets weird and confusing. If there’s such a thing as too many plot twists, this book has it. The amount of scheming and plotting just got too confusing and it wasn’t easy to follow the story anymore. The events following the island helped piece things together but only so much. 🔪 My rating: 3⭐️. I wouldn’t call this book boring, but as I said got very confusing and so I was taken out of the story and not really enjoying it anymore at that point. ★★★☆☆ Historic witches, family secrets, old magic. All of those sound like the recipe for a great story, but unfortunately this one was without. While the idea of young sisters learning of the mysterious magic of the late mother, a secret their father has been keeping, is compelling, this telling was bland. Difficult to follow, slow at all the wrong parts, and lacking enough connection to the past. It could have been great, but it wasn't. Maddie kind of floated around like a blind little bird. Saff's initial severe need for medication seemed to dissipate after, like, day 1. And there seemed to be little chemistry between the two, they hardly talked or got to know each other. You have been warned! * * * * * * * * * I initially gave this book 3.5-4 stars, but the more I think about it, the more I'm left feeling "blah" about it. While being forced to love with one another because of their circumstances, I did enjoy watching Daphne and Miles slowly fall in love with one another. However, a lot of their deeper conversations consisted of, "I'm fine." "It's fine." "I'm okay." All I could think about when one of those exchanges happened was Ross from friends. The first love scene was very chunky and confusing. Articles of clothing came off after I thought they already took them off and Miles was kissing body parts that weren't near each other, but made to seem like they were. After thinking more about this book, the only parts I really enjoyed was when Daphne and Myles were themselves on those Sunday adventure days. Any other time, I didn't really like them.
