Frösnurrorna var en bra idé, jag slapp omplanteringsmomentet och kunde sätta ut plantorna direkt i växthuset. Några får inte plats förrän dahliorna planterats ut, så de fick krukas istället.
Seed Roll Update! The marigolds did amazing! So happy and they transplanted so well with tons of roots. I will definitely be doing this again. As well, initially I really thought I messed up by doing my tomatoes this way but when repotted up they were so vigorous and out did my tomatoes I planted my regular way. I am now a convert! So happy with this trial!

Parsnips are the most frustrating thing to try to grow. They have a terrible germination rate, and because they are a root vegetable, they don’t start well in traditional seed starting trays. But then @faridasober showed us this new & innovative seed starting method, and I believe that parsnips can be started in a snail roll. Tomato seed roll update: They look great and grew well! But I potted them up into individual pots. When I re-rolled them they were flopping over unfortunately. But they separated from eachother easily. These ones are Lucky Bee, my sons favourite bite sized striped tomato. Next year I may do tomatoes again because they grew very well, but the flowers did even better in this fashion.
Progression photos and update! I unrolled this seed roll of Zinnias and added more soil. It is growing very well and everyone looks healthy! Super happy with how this trial is going for them! I did the same thing for my Evening Scented Stock, Marigolds and Nigella and all are well. First couple pictures are the "before" pictures, the third is "during" and the fourth is "after". Tomorrow will be my update on my tomatoes in the seed roll.

Maaliskuussa istutin siemeniä muovi&käsipaperikääröihin. Osa taimista on jo niin isoja (tomaatit, kesäkurpitsat yms.), että olin siirtänyt ne altakastelumatto&multa kääröihin huhtikuun 1. päivänä. Altakastelumatto on kotimainen, kierrätystekstiileistä huovutettu 50cm x 100cm kangas, pilkoin sen suikaleiksi. Tänään tein multakääröön siirron monille muillekin taimille. Tämä käärömetodi säästää kyllä tilaa ja juuret ovat suuria ja kasvit tuntuvat viihtyvän. Seed Roll Update! This is my Nigella (Love in a Mist). I may have over seeded (just maybe) but it is growing awesome and the roots have grown so deep they are coming out the bottom. This roll is over 6" deep so these teeny roots are growing great. Most nursery pots are only 3" or so. The Zinnia, Marigolds and Evening Scented Stock are also doing great! I'm very happy with this experiment. The tomatoes are also doing great, I really want to pot them up and bury the stem deep but I'm holding out on that so far. Will let you know how they do. Thus far they very healthy and have strong stems.

I saw something on the internet🔍 It made me wonder if it is a good alternative to my 2x2cm soilblocks. These are called #seedsnails and it is a neat idea from @faridasober . Basically they are strips of wrappings rolled up with potting soil in between. You can sprinkle seeds and vermiculite on top. They use less potting soil than my soilblocks and easy to carry around in order to transplant. I kind a like them. #seedsnails #gardenhacks #veggie #backyardgarden #homegrown
The sprout rate is insane! I put the seeds in the snails before midnight on the 28th. I moved them to the greenhouse on the heat mats the morning of the 29th. It's now the morning of the 1st. 3.5 days. I've never had anything sprout this fast. Ever.

Today I am playing in the dirt and trying a new seed starting method called "Seed Snails". You make a spiral out of a length of plastic, foam, or cloth, something that will hold soil and moisture, and sow the seeds around the spiral. It's an excellent use of packing materials that would otherwise go straight in the bin. Seed Roll update! Things are popping up well! The spacing seems good so far. The only difficulty I've found so far is being able to cover it with a lid to maintain moisture. With typical trays I have a nice cover but these were more tricky due to the size variations between my rolls, and because they were a lot taller than my trays so there wouldn't be a good seal. I could cover individual rolls with a little sandwich bag next time. Still a work in progress.
