As I sit looking over the gorgeous solway firth, listening to all the sounds of the countryside blowing in the breeze , I think how lovely that the care-home mum is in, is in such a picturesque setting. Nature is always a healer to everyone and can help in rehabilitation as well . It’s funny how in real life everything can change in a split second and we all need to try and adapt to those situations in the best way we can . I must raise my hat to those in the carer industry as they work so incredibly hard looking after families loved ones to give them the best quality of life that they can . It’s all pinks in the garden today! I’ve just been to the garden centre for some trailing/basket plants. I still think it’s a bit early yet to plant them out so they are in the open mini greenhouses for another couple of weeks. I’ve also sown some Orlaya and more cosmos seeds and a few gourd seeds I had left from a couple of years back. I don’t know whether they’ll germinate but we shall see. After a glorious sunny week it’s turned cloudy and cooler today which is typical I guess for a bank holiday weekend! Off to see my 10 year old granddaughter and her football team play in a final shortly so no more gardening today. Today was the first day of the local Weald Beekeepers' course for newbies like me. There were patient explanations by the teachers, and the bees were (mainly) good-natured. One of them (the bees, not the teachers!) even showed us the Waggle Dance (pic 5 - sound on!), while another almost stopped long enough for a selfie. But my Beekeeping journey proper began in the winter. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to lovely Donald and Charlotte Molesworth - dear friends and near neighbours. When I started work on this garden in Dec 2020, one of the first things I did was to cut right down a very tatty Clematis which was clinging to broken trellis high up on a wall so you really only looked at the old, bare stems! Charity status will allow us to act as a conduit for funding for Garden Therapy Projects - applying for and allocating funds to help Garden Projects within the Directory operate in a more sustainable way. It will also allow development of a network of Green Therapy providers in the UK - building on the foundations laid in the Gardening4Health Directory. This network will facilitate connection between providers, education, and sharing knowledge and experience - through newsletters and conferences - such as those held at Tuppenny Barn in 2023. The end of March saw the withdrawal of financial support from the Primary Care Network for the Therapy Garden Project. A sad day indeed, and the allotment is quiet, with no sessions currently scheduled. Also mothballed are our plans to expand our project in Paddock Wood. For now.... The good news is that we are hoping to raise money and crowdfund the project going forward. So we're forming a charity under the @gardening4health banner. Hopefully we'll be back very soon - providing Garden Therapy for the people of Hadlow, Hildenborough, Paddock Wood and West Kent. Today's allotment task was finding the strawberries amongst the grass and dandelions! No hardship on such a sunny day and plenty of good strawberry plants to find 🍓 some already have flowers so now the bees will be able to find them We also found a sleeping hedgehog in the oldest compost bin which we were turning out. Thankfully it didn't even unroll, was unharmed and we could see it was breathing 😴.
