Folklore speaks of Bridget’s Cloak or Black Breeda where you would leave a scarf of piece of cloth outside on your door. Brigid would pass by overnight and bless these garments with healing powers which can then be applied for headaches or sore throats or other illnesses. Brigid/Brighid/Breed is the Triple Goddess but at Imbolc she moves from the Crone aspect to her Maiden youthfulness. This triplication was represented by the Druidic sign of ‘awen’, meaning inspiration; the fiery arrows of Brigid. She brings with her the gifts of renewal of the land and the Triple Flame; fires of the hearth, healing and inspiration. She is represented by lambs, ewe’s milk, serpents and sacred wells. Brigid’s Crosses are traditionally made today from reeds or straw. These solar crosses are a fire wheel symbol and placed on the hearths of homes throughout Ireland and beyond as a symbol of protection. A Brigid Poppet is a ‘doll’ created in the form of the maiden in a white dress. One day to make and one day to carry with you then places on a bed on your Altar or hearth to bring fertility and good fortune to the home. Brigid was adopted by the church and sainted but later de-canonised in the 1960’s for being pagan! Imbolc is almost here (1-2 February)! This Celtic festival is all about waking up after a period of rest that we've had. The past few months were all about going inward, during which we spent much time indoors due to the colder weather and less daylight. Now we are moving towards more light, and with that outgoing energy. Imbolc is about the start of this. When you go outdoors and tune into nature you can really feel this enormous life-force energy! I did this yesterday and it made me smile because this force is truly powerful and cannot be pushed back anymore. It's kind of like an energy that can break through things. Animals, insects, plants, trees, are all beginning to wake up. The sap stream in trees is starting to really move (upward) again, and even if you cannot see this force because they haven't got leaves yet, the energy has shifted for sure! For us it's the same. We already have much more daylight, and our energy is also shifting from an inward focus to outward one. Time for new, new projects, feeling the desire to create, clear and cleanse to make space for the new, and so on. Brigid is connected to Imbolc. She's a goddess of Fire, of 3 fires even: Fire of the Hearth: all things concerning home, home-life, family Fire of the Heart: all matters concerning love, healing, coming together, inspiration Fire of the Forge: concerning endeavours, action, work, projects, creative (action) Because of the healing aspect of this goddess she is also connected to wells & springs, which are sources of healing too. That's why many springs & wells are dedicated to or named after Brigid. Today we celebrate Imbolc, the first glimpse of the beginning of spring and the promise of the earth’s renewal in the coming months. Imblog means “in the belly” - all around we can see the first stirrings of new life. Imbolc, pronounced EE-Molc, is a sacred sabbat that sits at the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It is one of the four Celtic fire festivals centered around the movements of the sun (Imbolc 2/1, Beltane 5/1, Lammas 8/1, and Samhain 10/31). The ancient Celtics revered the halfway points on the wheel of the year to be the most powerful transition times. And today, we feel this too. It is a time to work with all matters of the heart - clearing and opening, loving and grieving. We begin softly “spring cleaning”, working with aspects of the heart that have arisen since Yule. What is your heart calling? What is it that you are grieving? How can you find comfort in the process of working with the heart? Listen to your heartbeat, step into the rhythm of your own song. Use the breath during this time to move through any thing that might come up. Sit with it, listen for that still small beat, the rhythm of your life. Step into the heart, work with the emotions that have gathered in your chest. This incredible muscle can be nurtured and massaged from within. Let the energy of this fire sabbat spark the flame within your heart. There is deep metaphor to work with on this holy day. Plants and herbs have been used for thousands of years in traditional ritual practices across the world. They have both metaphorical and physical uses during these times of celebration and I encourage you to employ your fellow green friends to support you throughout the year. *Beltane Blessings* Hello beautiful souls, long time no post. Apologies for my silence, I'm getting through this day by day 🌈 Today is May Day or Beltane, representative of the peak of Spring and going into Summer. It's all about growth, connection, conception and light. Welcoming back the sun and making offerings to appease the gods. Yellow flowers which are abundant at this time of year were often braided into crowns or collected to decorate dwellings. Beltane is another fire sabbat with all sorts of traditions associated with it. Maypoles, fires and smoke cleansings. As with all pagan celebrations, they are fascinating and worth reading more about. I cannot do it justice in this short post! In modern times and especially now, I feel it is important to connect with the changing seasons. Things you can do today - *Start a new project *Tend your garden and plant seeds like sunflowers. *Light a small fire (safely) or just a candle. Enjoy the heat and light. *Create flower crowns, Posey's and dress your home with greenery. *Watch the sunset *Bake bread, create offerings for elementals *Drink and be merry! It is hard to know what will happen with all this uncertainty and fear. However, taking time for rituals creates a sense of peace and stillness. The wheel turns for us and we must be thankful for the small things. Peace and love to you all 🌈💗🌼

BELTANE🌼 Today we mark another sabbat on the wheel of the year. Beltane or May day is the mid point between spring and summer equinoxes. Spring has truly sprung, and we are now seeing life re-emerge all around us. It is a very masculine festival of abundance and creativity. Dancing around a fire or maypole is an ancient tradition associated with fertility and new life. The Romans knew it as 'Floralia' and was a festival for the Goddess Flora.
