The Cross Quarter Day, Lammas, marks the midpoint between the summer solstice and the Autumnal equinox (Northern Hemisphere). ⠀ This joyous occasion is typically observed on August 1st annually. However, astrologers view Lammas as the moment when the Sun reaches 15° of Leo. ⠀ Traditionally, during Lammas, families celebrate the first harvest of early wheat or corn, and everyone takes part in baking bread. This initial loaf, called the Lammas Loaf, holds special significance. ⠀ With shared delight, the freshly baked bread is savored, and festivities abound, honoring the blessings of the present harvest and looking forward to the abundance yet to come. ⠀ #astroart #lammas #crossquarterday #lammasloaf #podcast #leo #starzology #pnw #vancouver #vancouverastrologer #astrologybasics #august2023 #alisonprice

I made a Lammas loaf with my wee girl today. Don't worry, it's not burnt - it's just the sugar (my daughter went a bit crazy with the brown sugar sprinkling before we put it in the oven! 😂) It is made with spelt flour, dried fruits, honey and buttermilk. We lit a candle of intention at the beginning and made wishes for the months ahead. There is a triple moon design on the top with a circle of magical oats around it. My teacher @priestess_bee has written a beautiful piece on Lammas traditions, including Lammas bread for our Cerridwen newsletter this season. Cerridwen is the Grain Mother and has powerful associations with wheat. I love baking bread with my daughter, our hands working the dough together. I felt Cerridwen close to us in the kitchen this morning. #lughnasadh #Lammas #lammasloaf #breadmaking #priestessofcerridwen #Cerridwen #witch #kitchenwitch #witchesofinstagram #currentmood #currentenergies #magick

🌾Happy Lammas!🌾 According to English folk tradition, August 1st is the start of the harvest season, or Lammas. “Lammas” derives from the Old English phrase “hlaf-maesse” which translates as “loaf-mass”, and it’s a time to make bread from the first harvested grains and loaves are formed into shapes to represent the body of the earth goddess and the spirit of the harvest or even the Eucharist in the amazingly syncretic way religions blend together. It’s a celebration marking the making and blessing of bread. Tonight we’re feasting and I’m inflicting Dark August (1976) on my husband. I’m also cracking the spine on HARVEST HOME now that our readalong has started! This is my third year to make an effigy loaf and l think I’ve nailed down my style. Our loaf is pretty traditional and shaped like a wheat sheave and bound with a braid. I opted out of crafting a mouse this time as I felt my creature sculpting skills still need work. Which is too bad because I especially like the mouse, not only as it represents the need to bring in the harvest, but by way of reinforcing the fluid nature of this celebration, images of mice are also seen in the Book of Kells (Leabhar Cheanannais; Dublin, Trinity College Library, MS A. I. c. 800 CE.) trying to steal the Eucharist from the altar, but ever-watchful cats keep them at bay. Considering the interconnected imagery, timeframe, and the geographic closeness of both art object and folk tradition, I feel as if more research could be done to tie the two together. Want to make your own loaf? Don’t be daunted! This was a fun activity to mark the changing season. All you need is flour, salt, yeast, water, (vegetable) lard, and a little patience. Now, excuse me, I’m going to set our table with fruit, cheeses, and chill some cider to go along with this tasty loaf! #lammas #lammasbread #lammasloaf #loafmass #folktradition #folkbelief #harvest #harvesttime #harvesttraditions #baking #witchybaking #bookishcommunity #bookishcoven #witchyvibes #witchyreads #darklybookish #thespookyones #readmorebooks #booksbooksbooks #horrorcommunity #horrorreads #folkhorror #spookstagram #bookofkells #lughnasadh #harvesthome #thomastryon #readmorehorror

The Lammas loaf. Blessings of the season!⁣ ⁣ At Lughnasadh we give thanks to the Great Mother for her abundance of blessings and for our own personal growing. Sometimes she likes to give us a kick up the arse so that we can better learn how to open our arms and our hearts to her gifts. ⁣ ⁣ I'm so glad to be at this point of the Turning of the Wheel. I’m more than ready to move further into the darker days now. The summer always brings a certain madness.⁣ ⁣ Recently, I have made some foolish choices about how best to deal with stress, choices that didn't take into account my new medication, and things have got a bit messy once or twice. But I’m trying not to wallow in the shame/guilt soup that always comes after a public fall. I’m trying to remember how far I’ve come and appropriately for Lughnasadh, I’m counting my blessings at this the first harvest.⁣ ⁣ An unexpected and joyful upside has been recognising two beautiful and wise souls who stood beside me and shone a light on unconditional love and what that looks like. ⁣ ⁣ However well we think we are doing, there will inevitably be slip-ups but we have to get back up. It helps to have cheerleaders and bucketloads of gratitude for the journey. I’m slowly learning how to cultivate both. The lessons never stop.

Happy Lughnasadh!!! 🌾 To all my northern hemisphere babes who are celebrating, a very bright Lughnasadh / Lammas / Harvest Festival / Big Bread Day! And a very merry Imbolc to anyone celebrating down south. I'm out this evening so this year's loaf may not be as exciting as last year's in the pictures, but I love the hands-on kitchen based practices of this celebration. Kneading dough is my therapy. Whether you're celebrating or not, I hope you have a day filled with joy ✨ . . . . . #lughnasadh #lammas #lammasloaf #sabbat #pagan #paganism #firstharvest #harvestfestival #wicca

🌾 Lammas 🌾 The spiritual meaning of Lammas is deeply rooted in the cycles of nature and the interconnectedness between humanity and the Earth. Lammas is a cross quarter festival, celebrating the first fruits of the season and the beginning of the harvest period. The festival is a time to give thanks for the abundance of the Earth’s gifts and the successful growth of crops due to the sun’s warmth and nature’s nurturing. It is a time for communities to come together, express gratitude and celebrate the abundance of their harvest. Lammas is traditionally celebrated with eating together, making bread or other food items from the freshly harvested crops, creating corn dollies & generally being outside having fun! Lammas blessings to you all 😘

Does your family celebrate the festival of Lammas? If so, what are some of your favorite traditions? If not, are there any other summertime festivals you and your family celebrate? 🌻 For those of you unfamiliar with the festival, Lammas is the festival of the first harvest and celebrates the arrival of grains and the first harvest loaf. There are many common traditions such as baking a Lammas loaf, handpouring beeswax candles, making dolls out of corn leaves, or sharing a special meal together. 🌻 We hand poured a little candle today and decorated it with modeling beeswax. Nothing too fancy, but meaningful nonetheless. Head on over to my subscription channel for my favorite Lammas verse/ song.

As the Wheel turns, we reach 'the First Harvest' aka Lughnasadh. 🌾😊 Golden glow of summer sun over the fields merges with a light breeze of wind.. we are approaching the beginning of fall- and with this come changes in the Season & in us. As within so without: So we are called to go inside of ourselves and ask, what has this year been so far? What are we proud of? What do we cant to call into life this year- there still are months ahead of us. We can now replenish our energy and rest to regain power for the dark half of the year.🌞💖 But before this, let us celebrate the season once more, with bonfires, fairs, nights in the garden or walks under the moon light. I will follow up with ideas for activities in the next days! Guess what? It’s not too late to celebrate Lammas and the beginning of harvest season! The wonderful thing about these astrological and biological celebrations is that they are so deeply rooted in the cycles of nature. The feeling in the air and in your heart holds more significance than a date on a calendar! Celebrate early! Celebrate late! Celebrate for a week! Reflect on the seasonal shift on YOUR time, when you are able to relax into it. 💛 🌾 Here is another bread recipe for late summer: gluten-free turmeric and Russian Blue Sage bread with apricots and walnuts. 💛 🌾 Russian Blue Sage is a popular landscaping plant with stunning purple spires that look similar to lavender, and delicate small leaves that look a bit like mugwort. To me, it smells a lot like garden sage, but with less of a minty note and a rich undertone that, weirdly enough, reminds me a bit of lamb. As soon as I nibbled it, I started picturing apricots, walnuts, and turmeric. The sage is fairly bitter, so only a little bit of the blossom is used in the bread itself, but the flavor comes through nicely and balances the fruity apricots really well. This artisan bread has a nice chewy crust and a dense but pleasant crumb. It’s fantastic on its own, but also makes a wonderful sandwich bread! 💛 Give it a try here: https://www.thewondersmith.com/blog/2021-russianbluesagebread 💛 Do you tend to celebrate on a specific calendar day, or are you more of a “celebrate the season” kind of person? . ✨✨✨ . #glutenfreeartisanbread #glutenfreebread #turmeric #russianbluesage #apricotbread #misswondersmith #harvest2022 #thewondersmith #lammasloaf #lammas #wildfoodlove #wildcrafted #harvestseason #wildfood

I can’t believe that it’s already Lammas, halfway between the Summer Solstice and Fall Equinox! Traditionally, this day marks the beginning of harvest season, and a loaf of bread is baked from the first grain harvest to celebrate 🌾 (Usually wheat, oats, or rye.) I decided that a cornbread would be more appropriate to honor the season here in North America, where 🌽 is truly our “golden waves of grain” with a rich and long culinary history pre and post colonization. We are a nation that runs on corn from the fuel in our cars, the sweetness in our soda, the feed for our livestock, the tortillas for our tacos, and so much more… and we have the dedication of Native American agricultural practices over thousands of years to thank for it. 💛 I decided to add a little extra summer sunshine to this lovely bread by stirring in goldenrod flowers, which give it a pleasant herbal/nutty flavor and rich orange/yellow color. This plant is often viewed as a weed, but has a long tradition in herbalism and is especially known for dispelling melancholy. 💛 A nut and seed mandala on top elevates this bake to a special occasion. It’s delicious with butter and honey! Have you tried this recipe yourself? If you have, I would love to see your version! Don’t be shy about tagging me in your creations based on this recipe! If you want to give it a try, just head here: 💛 https://www.thewondersmith.com/blog/2018/7/29/goldenrod-cornbread-to-hail-harvest-season-and-dispel-melancholy 💛 Do you have any cultural or personal rituals to celebrate the beginning of harvest season? I think today I will set aside some time to just sit in the garden and reflect on the bounty in my life and the seasons to come. Blessed Lammas to all of you! . ✨✨✨ . #lammas #cornbread #herbal #wildfoodlove #wildfood #wildcrafted #harvestseason #harvest2022 #ritual #lammasloaf #thewondersmith #misswondersmith

Lammas. A Day To Harvest Blessings. “The day has been radiant with light. Check to see if you have a dance under your feet or song in your heart, if you do it must be La Lúnasa!” August 1st/2nd are Celtic high holy days. Lúnasa (Lugnasa or Lughnasagh in Old Irish) is mistakenly thought to be a harvest festival but its too early. The crops are still swaying and ripening in the fields. Like most Celtic festivals, it anticipates an event. Lá Lúnasa, the official day of the festival, was a time when Celts turned their attention to appeasing Lugh so that he would allow them a good harvest in five or six weeks. Celtic gods were a fiery bunch given to unpredictable tantrums. To show Lugh respect, dance, music, art and poetry were created and performed for Lugh who was gifted and skilled. Inspired by Transceltic.com Grains harvested at Lammas time include wheat, barley, oats, rye as well as the plants meadowsweet, mint, sunflower and Calendula which may be added to the Lammas loaf to bless the home or barn. Bake a Lamas loaf and once it has cooled break it into pieces and take it to the four corners of your home and recite I call on the spirits Of north, and south, east and west Protect this place Now, at the time of the Blessing. Lugh and the Leprechaun Among his many skills Lugh was a master magician. He was an accomplished smith. He could forge magic weapons. Over time, Lugh's story moulded him into a fairy craftsman, typically a shoemaker or tailor. He was known as Lughchromain, meaning 'little stooping Lugh' and was famous for having a cranky, ill-tempered nature. Anglicised, this nickname developed into the word leprechaun. One of the herbs of Lughnasadh is the sun flower. It offers remembrance that the Innate Wisdom from the Motherline which is brought forth from the Sun spirals out from the very center of our being. This year, our loaf is shaped like a wheat sheaf, bound with a braid. However, I ran out of dough before I could make a mouse to place on top of the stalks. Which is too bad because I especially like the mouse, not only as it represents the need to bring in the harvest, but by way of reinforcing the fluid nature of this celebration images of mice are also seen in the Book of Kells (Leabhar Cheanannais; Dublin, Trinity College Library, MS A. The Lammas field’s been turned over to silage grass this year so I’ve had to go thieving from a different bit of the farm 😆 Winnowing and grinding even this tiny amount of wheat by hand’s a pretty laborious task, but it’s so satisfying when you sift out that handful of flour. Happy Lammas everyone, here’s a repost of a vid we made last year: Today is Lammas or Lughnassadh the festival celebration of bountiful crop and the first harvest or grain; a high union of sun and earth. It is midway between summer solstice and the September autumn equinox, one of the great markers in the ritual year. The word Lammas derives from old English words meaning ‘Loaf’ and ‘Mass’ and is a Christian celebration whereby it is customary to make a loaf of bread to take to communion which is made from the grains of the first harvest. Lammas evolved from an earlier pagan festival called Lughnassadh which celebrates the Celtic sun god Lugh and the corn spirit or corn mother. Great festivities and feasts took place with produce made from the first grain in gratitude for the abundant crops and the commencing of making food for winter.  Set within recent mysterious crop circles which appeared (folk-customarily, energetically or extraterrestrially) in the first crops of Lammas the video features two customs of this harvest sabbat. A traditional Lammas bread and a woven dolly from the first harvest which is the embodiment of the corn mother and shall be protected throughout winter to keep alive her spirit. On the sabbat of Imbolc the dolly or it’s ashes will be ploughed back into the earth to restore the spirit to the land and honour the cycle of life. The design of the weaving is a Welsh fan.  Soundtrack by blessed @orburycommon 🌞

LAMMAS BLESSINGS 🌻// Today we celebrate Lammas (or Lughnasadh), which honours the first harvest of the season, grain, the sun, the Celtic god of craftsmanship, and the goddess, Harvest Queen and Earth Mother at her fullest. She holds the seed of all future harvests – just as a woman is born with all her eggs – embodying the great motherline in all its magic and mystery 🌚 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In the great Wheel of the Year, before the shorter days take us into shadow season, we appreciate the warmth and sunlight supporting the season of growth and acknowledge our ancestors’ hard work to survive through the winter months. Metaphorically, our mental, spiritual and emotional crops are also ready for the first harvest. If you planted intentions in the darkness of winter or early spring, this is the time to see what has bloomed and manifested, and perhaps what you can let go of as we take the next turn in our journey 💫 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A traditional Lammas ritual is baking from the first harvest of wheat (Lammas is an Anglo Saxon word for loaf-mass). Make something delicious, decorate your table with fresh flowers and candles, and feast with friends and family 🌼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I attempted a lemon and raspberry drizzle cake which turned out quite well if I do say so myself 😊 I will share the recipe on stories 💕 #thisissacredspace #mysacredspace #festivaloflight #lammasblessings #lammas #lammascake #lammasloaf #lammasbaking #lemondrizzle #loafmass #sundaybaking #lughnasadh #candleritual #firstharvest #wheeloftheyear #sacredspace

🌾Our small team marked the ceremony of Lammas earlier this week, with the sun at its highest in the sky shining down on us and Nature at her most bountiful. We gathered in our sacred stone circle and gave thanks for all the abundance around us, gave offerings of seed to the animals on our land and a 'loaf mass' where the word Lammas comes from. We took pause in gratitude for all that Nature gives us, as well as welcomed the knowing that this high point of active growth will soon be followed with the next phase of slowing down and the darker days of winter 🌾

My Lammas Loaves. Lammastide is celebrated today as when in days gone by, communities would come together and hold a thanksgiving for the first wheat harvest, flour milling and baking of the first loaf (Loaf Mass -> Lammas). In the weeks leading up to the wheat harvest, flour stocks would have been running low so the new wheat bread would have a very welcome sight. In recognition that this year, domestic flour & yeast have been at times tricky to come by, I have baked these two without them. The first is a Lemon, almond & polenta loaf cake. The second is a more rustic oat, rye and beer, soda loaf. It doesn’t taste quite as heavy as it looks but it is very beery! Also I recognise that for many, any ingredients are still hard to come by especially as more redundancies are announced. This is alongside the government giving a family of four £40 off a meal eating out one night, while other families struggle to make £30 last for a whole week of food. Donations to the food bank can be made here https://www.trusselltrust.org/make-a-donation/ #LammasDay #LammasLoaf #Lammas #LammasLoaves #LammasBread

Our Lammas dinner was fantastic 🥰 we even had some family pop over for a surprise visit! Dinner was served with herbed chicken for the meat eaters and sautéed green beans and mashed red potatoes for sides. And Kylie's #lammasloaf was a hit with the family! We finished everything up with some rhubarb crisp 🤤 #lammas #lughnasadh #harvestsabbat

Lammas blessings or Happy bread day to all those who celebrate. My beautiful lammas candle is by @_waxing_moon_ (check her out she pours love into every single thing she makes) flowers, bay and other bits are from my garden. Since I feel l'm the only person who didn't bake banana bread in lockdown I've made a banana lammas loaf. We went for a walk round Beamish today and this scarecrow caught my attention 💛 #lammas #lughnasadh #happybreadday #lammasloaf #bananabread #candle #soycandle #homegrown #lily #passionflower #crocosmia #bay #quartz #citrine #onyx #wheeloftheyear #witchesofinstagram #altar #pagan #wicca #scarecrow #vegan #plantbased #crueltyfree #rainwater #plantbasedwitch #feathers #sabbat #sabbatcandle #sabbatblessings

#lammasloaf! Happy harvesting, everyone!

Lughnasadh or Lammas, is the celebration of the first grain harvest and a time to give thanks and celebrate abundance. We celebrate Lugh the great Celtic Sun God on August 1st by harvesting and assuring food and abundance for the coming winter. Keep in mind that we are celebrating the Sun because his power is beginning to wane. This is a time of change and a shift as growth slows and the darker days of winter remind us they are coming. @goldenwillowhealing started by cleaning and cleansing her altar followed by dancing (always) and meditating in the Akashic Records. Spoiler alert, there were a lot of messages received about dancing. If you hate dancing or fun, you should stop reading now.   The crystals used were Amphibole Quartz, Grossular Garnet, Golden Healer Quartz, Tigers Eye, and Sunstone. Chosen for their properties relating to the sun, the divine and manifestation of abundance. The crystals and records both had messages about dancing... Shake it all off, let that sh*t go! But also movement as a form of connecting to the divine and as a way to connect deeper with ourselves. @suttoncrawford cleansed her altar with Florida water and decorated with- Carnelian, Aventurine, Citrine, Shiva Lingam and Sardonyx. And is burning ritually charged abundance candles on her altar. She spent the day at the beach with her family and gave thanks while dipping in the ocean. This festival is all about harvest and this year is no exception, our harvest just looks a little different. How can we celebrate what we’ve harvested during this time? Chances are, if you look, you’ll find you’ve grown and cultivated a lot during the shut down. You are amazing. #witchesofinstagram #lughnasadh #lammas #lammasloaf #wicca #crystals #altar #altarspace #akashicrecords #sage #witch #witchcraft #wicca #magic #witchy #tarot #witchyvibes #witches #magick #crystals #nature #bruja #spiritual #spirituality #witchlife #moon #witchcommunity #tarotcards #tarotreader #tarotcommunity #tarotreadersofinstagram #citywitch

Lughnasadh marks the beginning of the harvest season. Though not quite the same as Lammas, many Neopagans use the names almost interchangeably for the first harvest festival. Lammas (loaf-mass) is also a Christian holiday and it was customary to bring to church a loaf made from the newly harvested wheat. . To celebrate Lughnasadh/Lammas here today I baked some bread …in the shape of a Dragon! I’ve had the fancy cake/bread tin for a while (a present from my youngest son) but today was the first time I have used it. I’m rather pleased with the results (though I probably should have doubled the ingredients to fill the tin properly) …and it is deeeeeelicious!! …and gluten free and dairy free too! . Bread is symbolic of love and nurture, food and survival. Then I started thinking about bread in relation to the elements and the Dragon… . EARTH — the flour and other ingredients grown of the land — the body of the Dragon. WATER — the life-blood of the Dragon to mix with the Earth to form the dough. AIR — the bubbles that rise within the mixture, plus the heat that surrounds it while in the FIRE of the oven — the breath of the Dragon. SPIRIT — symbolic of the Dragon within the final form — the loaf that has been birthed by the combination of Air, Fire, Water and Earth. . To eat this bread is symbolic of being one with the Dragon, to eat of the Dragon yet not to harm or destroy, to be nourished and fed from the Dragon’s wisdom. . . . . #TopazDrachen #DragonDreamingBlog #paganism #southernhemispherepagan #aussiewitch #australianpagans #witchesofinstagram #witchesofinstagram🌛🌝🌜 #witchythings #draconicwicca #dragonwitch #dragon #draconicpagan #dragonpath #witchesofaustralia #paganwitch #australianwitchcraft #lughnasadh #lughnasa #lammas #crossquarters #crossquartersabbat #witchessabbat #harvestsabbat #sabbat #lammasloaf #lammasbread #dragonbread #dragonwisdom #dragonmeditation

Lammas greetings. Appreciating the power of the Lionsgate portal energy. My heart is open and feeling it ALL. In a lunchtime conversation, I found myself making vows to protect the innocent today. You should consider it, too! We must be the antidote to the poison we see around us in the world. ~ 02.08.2019 . I hope you all enjoyed your Lammas celebrations, some of you are still celebrating today I see 💛 if so, have a wonderful time! . . Here on the cemetery we baked some Lammas bread to celebrate. Usually a loaf, but this time buns. Because I spent six hours at hospital I was on the drag a bit (not to mention tired), so I cheated and used a bread mix. Shhhhhh! Don’t tell the harvest gods! . . Because I don’t have a brilliant bread recipe for you this time around, I’ll leave you with a Lammas poem instead. This one is called Weaving the Harvest by Katrina Rasbold . . We know that every grain and seed, Is a record of ancient time, A promise of all that’s yet to be, And what I claim as mine. . As the grape shall change to become the wine, I change in the cauldron of life. I’ll drink of the wine of enchantment, And learn from the lessons of strife. . Within all forms is locked the path, Of future, present and past. The Ancient Ones who spin our fates, Lay blessings on us at last. . Having planted once my future goals, They now come to fruition, I spoke aloud and Goddess heard, Giving birth to my ambition. . In concert work and concert weave, New patterns to my life, I open heart to greatest good, And banish pain and strife. . On Lughnassadh now I reach to sky, My faith on solid ground, I welcome Harvest to my life, Where blessings shall abound. . By oat and grain and wheat and corn, By Air, Fire, Water, and Earth, By sword and chalice, hoof and horn, The Harvest now is birthed. . . 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

The Lammas Loaf is made, and even though it's 38C degrees outside it's still the 2nd day of autumn. It's time. The house now smells of wheat and spice, sultanas, apricots, apples and pears. I adore this season.
