🪄 Happy Beltane/May Day, dear ones! ✨ As some of you may know, I have been on a medical leave from teaching for nearly a year now (due to a diagnosis of severe burnout and symptoms of PTSD) and my life has fundamentally changed to adjust to this new reality and the limits of this new body that I inhabit that so dearly needs rest and care. One of the positives that has come out of this experience has been having time to reconnect with my hobbies and my identity outside of teaching, which includes playing the ukulele, becoming a birdwatcher and amateur naturalist, baking, connecting with friends and family, embracing mindfulness and meditation, learning to read tarot cards and even reclaiming the term "witch" as a descriptor for myself as someone who is a seeker and maker of magic. I decided that May 1st - with its significance for witches and workers - would be a meaningful day to officially launch this blog, which will chart my healing journey from burnout to a life of joy and magic...one bird photograph and book review at a time 😊 P.S. I chose this photo of me cosplaying as Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service to start with, since it's the story of an apprentice witch who overcomes her own fears and even burnout when she moves to a big city to work. Kiki goes on to make profound connections with the people around her, overcome her own battles with self-doubt, and reclaim her (quite literal) power. Some musings and reminders as we step further into this spring season 🦋🪷🐍 And as we thankfully step into more benefic astrological energy I know some of you are still raw from the trials and tribulations of the last few weeks. You may still be contending with your shadow, addressing your doubts, and facing your fears. That’s to be expected. Shedding can be a long & tedious process, and your full metamorphosis will not happen overnight. Yeah, the main event is over, but the work —as we know— continues. The process of becoming is a day-to-day occurrence, informed by your current thoughts, beliefs, and actions. It is about what you are feeling & experiencing right now, and what choices you make in response to those circumstances. It is happening as we speak. So be intentional with your words, thoughts, and actions as often as you can. If you’re still feeling heavy or stressed, keep releasing and engaging in your self-care practices until you feel realigned. If you don’t have any idea where you are or where to go, that’s okay. Finna shake some up, per usual I got up this rising ready to work and reactivate my magick! (I was up all night and watched as the sun rose, but you get it) Wanted to go live to discuss the current transits, but…the eclipse been whipping my ass lowkey 😂 And still, we rise! I know there’s a lot of discourse about what to do during an eclipse, especially with this one being so intense and powerful 🔥 I didn’t expect it to be this wild though. I just heard that the religious folk have been packing out churches in anticipation of the rapture like it’s 2012. The internet witches and spiritual folk that get excited about every damn “portal” and a chance to “manifest” are running and hiding for their lives. Even the OG conjurers seem to have chosen to reserve themselves and their magick for better transits. Meanwhile, the astrologers are saying folks are exaggerating —which discredits the many cultures that are (reasonably) trepidatious around eclipses. The skeptics are doing what they always do. And me? Well I’m going to do what I always do: listen to spirit and let it order my steps. Eclipses are times of great transformation and chaos… and baby that’s where I t h r i v e So I’m gonna go meet and commune with my makers, in reverence. And though, yes, I do suggest some caution…fire can and will burn you if handled improperly. But when approached with respect, care, and intention it can also give life. It can provide light to guide your way. And when necessary, it can burn away and destroy anything in your (or it’s) way. Ultimately, do whatever feels right to you. To those who are mourning old relationships & bonds Since you’ve all been so vulnerable with me recently, I’ll return the gesture… Sometimes I think about the girl I dated in high school, who loved me more than anyone else I’ve ever known, who made me stick figure comics & hid them everywhere to the point that I’m rediscovering them still, who folded me over 100 origami tiny butterflies 🦋 & birthday stars/wishes 🌟, who had every band t-shirt known to man and some of the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen. I look at all the gifts I kept, all the Nightmare Before Christmas paraphernalia & the handmade crafts, and I miss her. I look at my art and remember how she loved my first painting so much she kept it in her room, and I want to tell her how much better I’ve gotten. Easter comes around every year and I tell everyone “Happy Zombie Jesus Day” like she used to. I’m honored to have been loved by her. And I hope she’s well ☺️ I miss the bestie I made real magick with. She was part of so many “firsts” for me as a mage, a business owner, an artist, and a friend. First time traveling with homies, first celebrity client, first major event I helped produce, first official song I ever recorded. Second only in the fact that she’s the only other girl I ever loved so deeply. I miss reading her cards and doing lil rituals. I miss going out cuz even if the vibe wasn’t right at least she was there. I miss the shroom trips & the sleepovers. I miss riding around, blasting music, singing to the breeze. I remain full of gratitude to have called her my friend. The best volcanoes summon lightning & I miss being her’s 🌋⚡️ But things change. And that’s okay. Regardless of why you’ve separated, who was at “fault,” or whether it was even that serious to begin with, whether it was a good friend or lover, I think it’s important for us to all take a moment and acknowledge how truly blessed we are to have had these relationships. To have loved at all…as they say And the fact that they existed is proof that even more love is out there waiting for us So though we grieve…we grow 🌱

Grounding further into my greatness🧘🏾✨ Based on what I’ve been seeing y’all say in the comments, I’m not the only one who felt the effects of that Libra eclipse. some bonds were strengthened while others were severed. But all of this is for the best. When we start honing in on our desires and entering a new phase of our evolution, it’s only right that any extra weight or baggage will be let go. Spirit said, “You don’t need that where you’re going” And despite how tense the lunar eclipse was, I’m actually quite excited for the upcoming Mercury rx + solar eclipse. It will be the perfect time to reassess, cross our t’s and dot our i’s (and j’s), and get really clear about our focus and goals for the year. Recent changes in our relationships & agreements may now be cause for you to adjust your plans. (& expect some of that to come back up as mercury retraces its steps. sorry to tell ya. but happy to warn ya so you can be prepared) April is likely going to be fast-paced, with things sometimes feeling like they’re moving a little too fast. Bright ideas and intrusive/irrational thoughts will abound. And (speaking of those relationships) things could get a little heated 🔥 However, we’re all mages & mystics here. We know that not only can we use our practices to navigate this energy, but we can transmute it into our work and our creativity. We can use it to make magick ✨ This is a great time to affirm yourself and ground even deeper into who you are becoming this year (and as I’ll keep saying, for the start of the next 40-year cycle). Remain steadfast in your values and standards, but flexible in your plans and expectations. Remember how great you are, but that you can always be better. Be open to new perspectives & ideas, but don’t let either stop you from doing what’s best for you. Journal more. Take more walks. Touch more grass. Sending love 😘

Whewwww 😮💨 the last 48hrs have been a ride! How are y’all feeling? 👀 Eclipses are known for their ability to bring endings and new beginnings. With them, we can shed the extra weight and baggage that might hinder our progress & purpose moving forward. With this most recent eclipse being in Libra & the upcoming solar eclipse in Aries, there will be (or already have been) major shifts to our relationships, connections, and contracts/agreements. Whatever no longer serves your purpose will start to flake and fall away, like an old skin. This could happen suddenly with no warning or you could have known in your bones for a while. Either way, change is afoot! And it doesn’t stop here! On April 1st, Mercury goes Rx Aries and is going to give both you and others the chance to make amends, revisit points of concern or tension and mitigate them, reassess what’s important, and get in alignment with it. This is an opportunity to tie up loose ends and get closure. You can also take this time to reassess your values, your goals, and the version of yourself you’d like to present for the rest of the year going forward. Also, keep in mind that Pluto in Aquarius is propelling us into a new 40-year cycle, and everything that happens in these next few months will set the stage for what’s to come during that time. Consider this the prologue for a story beginning in 2025-26. So be intentional in April (and in general). Get your lessons.
