DESLIZAR PARA SINOPSIS➡ ⠀ ⠀ Me hice con este libro porque me llamó mucho la atención. Cada vez que veo un libro con una casa, mansión o apartamento embrujado quiero leerlo. ⠀ Esta lectura me ha encantado. Ha habido escenas que me han puesto los pelos de punta. ⠀ La trama gira en torno a dos personajes: Por un lado tenemos a Seth un pintor que intenta sobrevivir trabajando de noche en un bloque muy glamuroso. Allí una noche oye unos ruidos en un apartamento vacío y acaba enredado en algo oscuro del lugar. Por otro lado tenemos a Apryl, una chica joven que hereda el apartamento de ruidos extraños. Allí se obsesiona con su tía abuela y con las cosas extrañas que ve y siente. Intentará investigarlo todo sin saber a donde llegará. Toda esto me ha gustado mucho. Ha sido fantástico ver el desarrollo de los dos personajes en el bloque y como se unen sus historias. Me ha parecido muy curioso el origen del mal que habita el edificio, lo que quiere y el modo tan retorcido y efectivo que tiene para conseguirlo. ⠀ Respecto a los personajes decir que Seth me ha encantado por todo el cambio que vemos en él pero sobretodo como se desarrolla su arte. Es macabro pero me ha encantado como el autor lo describe todo. Apryl es una chica joven y muy curiosa. Es un personaje muy normal y actúa en todo momento de forma esperada. Es normal la intriga que tiene por todo lo nuevo que la rodea. Stephen (jefe de seguridad) me ha sorprendido. Es un personaje con un motivo y personalidad bastante interesante. Por último decir que Felix Hessen es un personaje muy curioso. Tiene una motivación muy extraña en la historia y me ha parecido curiosa y tétrica toda su obra y forma de ser. ⠀ Antes de terminar decir que normalmente este tipo de terror no suele gustarme pero el autor ha creado la historia tan bien y con unas escenas de tan buenas que para mi no ha sido un impedimento. También decir que he disfrutado enormemente de las descripciones que hace el autor de las escenas y cuadros. ⠀ En definitiva: este libro guarda una historia de terror bastante tétrica e interesante relacionada con el arte y "los mundos del más allá". Os lo recomiendo 100%.

This was the first novel I read by Adam and I loved every single minute I spent in those Swedish mountains with Dom, Phil, Luke and Hutch. I love wilderness horror, whether it’s book or movies, some of my favourite’s include The Descent, The Blair Witch Project, The Troop, The Ruins and Dark Mountain to name but a few. The Ritual is an amazing novel. If you’ve never read it, then I recommend picking it up and saving it for a dark, cold and stormy night - fire lit, curtains drawn and doors locked. Check out the UK first edition and the movie tie-in edition. Synopsis - Four old university friends reunite for a hiking trip in the Scandinavian wilderness of the Arctic Circle. No longer young men, they have little left in common and tensions rise as they struggle to connect. The Vessel - by @adamlgnevill Will I ever stop talking about Adam Nevill’s work? No… no, I don’t think I will! The Vessel takes on a more experimental writing style, in that Nevill didn’t use internal monologue at all, so everything we’re told is happening externally. Not only would this make an excellent writing class exercise, but he really pulled it off. It’s already hard enough to scare readers, and he made it even harder for himself by removing that internal perspective. And yet… here it is, increasingly creepy and scary with every page! Flo is…. not the nicest or easiest old lady to take care of, to say the least. She’s uncooperative and prone to the odd violent outburst, except for when it comes to her carer’s young daughter, who she inexplicably takes a shine to. Another excellent horror story from the GOAT! RITUAL DE ADAM NEVILL Hace tiempo vi una película titulada El Ritual (2017) Creía q era la típica película de “perdidos en un bosque” pero me resultó extremadamente interesante y muy entretenida. Me fijé q estaba basada en un libro de Adam Nevill. La pregunta que me hice fue: El libro será igual de emocionante, o por el contrario, me resultará tedioso a la hora de como el autor describe los detalles de los frondosos bosques escandinavos? Afortunadamente conté con algunos de vosotros, q muy amablemente respondisteis a todas mis dudas. Os pongo en situación: 4 viejos amigos de la universidad deciden hacer una excursión a los parajes del Círculo Ártico escandinavo y hablar de los viejos tiempos. Los vírgenes páramos q descubren, no mitigan algunos reproches, envidias y vidas insatisfechas; las discusiones, el hambre como el cansancio van mermando la moral del grupo, pues uno de ellos se lesiona y eso conlleva a ir mas despacio. En mitad de la nada, se adentran en un extraño bosque milenario, y terrorífico, dónde se encuentran una cabaña siniestra; en su interior perduran rastros de ritos ancestrales y de sacrificios paganos dedicados a una presencia perturbadora que todavía habita en el bosque. Muy pronto el miedo los envolverá para no marcharse jamás, pues la presencia inhumana no piensa dejarlos escapar. Añado q hay otra parte de la historia todavía (a mi modo de ver) aún más desesperante y terrorífica q tiene q ver con la raza humana...Y ese hecho me resultó frustrante, y angustioso… ¡Sufrí tanto por uno de los protagonistas! ¡Y qué final! This is "Jotunn," from Claymore Miniature's May release. I love the details they put on such a massive monster; the veins really sell hoe gross it is. Plus, all the little warts up and down the legs are just great. I had an idea to try to go for a decomposed flesh sort of look for it, and it inadvertently turned out like Nemesis from Reaident Evil. Finished Reading: The Ritual by Adam Nevill ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 👻👻👻 This book is without a doubt the best horror book I read this year. I can also confidently say it has swiftly become one of my favourite books of all time. This masterpiece is everything I want in a book. It is survival, it is supernatural, it has AMAZING atmosphere, the setting was stunning and creepy at the same time, it was terrifying and throughout the story you have no idea what THE FUCK is happening. And when you think the worst is over, BAM a whole other story enters the ring! All of a sudden, it has cult vibes, unstable metalheads, creature features and all that good stuff! Man, talking about a roller coaster of emotions you're going through while reading this book! You can't help but root for the MC and beg that he makes it, whatever his plans are. It is also amazing how well Adam's writing is and how well he can relay feelings, thoughts, emotions in his writing. All decisions made by everyone made sense. The group dynamics made sense. And yes, also character development is a big part here. Just... This book is a gem, and I will always, always recommend this one! This will be my first time reading Adam Nevill. I’ve seen two film adaptations of his work, ‘The Ritual’ and this one… ‘No One Gets Out Alive.’ The film adaptation NOGOA was sound, but it felt too short and rushed towards the end… it left me wanting more! All the fiends of hell was pretty spooky in a post apocalyptic immediate way. In this, Karl wakes up after a serious flu to empty streets, open doors and a somewhat suspicion that his weird dreams of a rapture like event weren't dreams. The sky is tinged with red and there are invisible creatures which violently murder every person they find, laying waste to houses and windows. Karl cares for his dementia suffering neighbor, the only other remaining on his street and finds two children in an icescream shop. When the Horrors move in as the sky reddens, they bail the city, unfortunately running into an absolute ass named Bob who is the worst. I don't want to spoil too much but it's an interesting read but does not really resolve by the end. I'd like to read a sequel for sure! Basada en el libro del mismo nombre de Adam Nevill. Cuatro amigos van de excursión debido al último deseo de uno de ellos que falleció hace poco. Debido a ello se van aventurar en un bosque muy antiguo en Europa que les hará vivir una experiencia unica. El film pertenece al género del Folk Horror, su ambientación y el origen de su mal se encuentra en ello. El grupo vagando en el bosque se encontrará con un animal despellejado y colgado, aquello les sembraría la duda de que no andan solos y hay algo o alguien en dicho sitio, de forma que avanzaran rápidamente hacia una cabaña en medio de una lluvia torrencial. Dentro de la cabaña encontraran el mismo signo que estaba cerca del animal, de forma que podríamos hacernos idea de un terror en el bosque. En la cabaña van experimentar sueños extraños e irreales, como si algo se metiera en su cabeza y les jugará encontrá dándoles visiones de sucesos traumatizantes. Posterior a ello el grupo entrara en conflicto mientras andan en el bosque, dicha discusión servirá para dar más detalles de la personalidad de los personajes y la relación de amistad entre ellos como su rol en el grupo. Cada cercanía con el ser implica visiones o pesadillas, este fuera de sus habilidades físicas, posee capacidades especiales que les permite revivir momentos traumáticos a los personajes y dar visiones de cosas que pasarán. El diseño del monstruo es bastante interesante, aunque se lo ve poco y la película siempre está de noche como tal. Aquella bestia es un vástago de Loki, un Jotun que les brinda inmortalidad a sus creyentes y merodea en el bosque. Todos los que están en esa aldea y se encuentran marcados son personas que tienen un gran dolor siendo ese el requisito para ser escogido. La forma de la criatura como una mezcla de alce con un estilo como de árbol brinda la experiencia de ver un ser del folk horror nórdico. This isn't a review. This is a strong recommendation. I recently listened to All The Fiends Of Hell by Adam L. G. Nevill. What a story! It's a close-up view of the life of Karl, just an ordinary man in the midst of a heavy bout of flu. His dreams have been filled with red skies and the loud ringgingbof bells. He wakes to find that he is one of a handful of people who have survived and an invasion by a mysterious alien species. It reminds me in ways of War Of The Worlds and the film version of Childern Of Men. People surviving against the odds and a whole lot of confusion as to what is actually happening. All the Fiends of Hell by Adam Nevill- Karl wakes from being sick in bed with the flu to find himself in a vacant world where everyone has disappeared. He soon realizes what he thought was a fever dream was the mass abduction of humankind and he and a few others are the only souls left on earth. He also soon realizes the creatures responsible are not content to leave anyone behind and he must find a way to escape the monstrosities that have overtaken this world. I loved the concept of this book and the post apocalyptic vibe. This is a pretty scary concept for most and it definitely gave that desperate survival feeling that goes along with the end of the world. That being said, it was a really slow read for me and I feel like some parts just got slow and boring. The end was definitely action packed and a few parts between but I wasn’t captivated by the writing which I was expecting because I loved The Ritual and The Reddening by Nevill. I think a lot had to do with how there was so much descriptive writing about the scenery and setting and I feel I got a little lost in it all. Cunning Folk - Adam Nevill ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is my third book by Adam Nevill! 📚😍 I love all his ideas and quirkiness within his stories and writing. This one was a focus on neighbours and not knowing who (or what) you are actually living next door to which I thought was very clever. The overall story began as a slow burn then packs a punch in the last quarter with a quickened pace that catches you right off guard! Although, out of the three books I’ve read from Adam Neville this would probably have to sit third. At times i found the descriptive words and comparisons were used a bit too much which became somewhat distracting to what was going on in the story and didn’t need to be used as much. However, Adams stories always seem to have an element of Claustrophobia, which i find is the creepiest part about horror! Looking forward to seeing if this would be made into a movie ! ‘No home is heaven with hell next door. Money’s tight and their new home is a fixer-upper. Deep in rural South West England, with an ancient wood at the foot of the garden, Tom and his family are miles from anywhere and anyone familiar. His wife, Fiona, was never convinced that buying the money-pit at auction was a good idea. Not least because the previous owner committed suicide. Though no one can explain why. Within days of crossing the threshold, when hostilities break out with the elderly couple next door, Tom’s dreams of future contentment are threatened by an escalating tit-for-tat campaign of petty damage and disruption. 👁 Under A Watchful Eye 👁 by Adam Nevill My favourite line from this book: • But the desperate care nothing but for their own desperation. • What a bittersweet feeling it is to conclude reading a terrifyingly exciting book that you've been thoroughly enjoying. 🥲 This, for me, was delightfully reminiscent of the very first Adam Nevill book that I read, (and that first sparked my literary obsession with this author) "Last Days". And I can tell you, I was overly giddy and physically pointing to the pages, exclaiming like the excited weirdo that I am, when I saw mere Easter-egg style mentions of "The Temple" in this book. *story tie-in overload* This paranormal thriller, focused on our poor main man, author Seb Logan, dives into the strange phenomena of outer-body experiences, and the uncertainty of what happens to our consciousnesses in the "after-life". Seb starts to unravel confusing, unsettling and despair-inducing mysteries, after a long-lost college roommate, *smelly* Ewan Alexander, comes to visit. And, unfortunately for Seb, it quickly turns into an in-escapable waking/un-waking nightmare. Book Review: The Vessel, by Adam L.G. Nevill. Struggling with money, raising a child alone and fleeing a volatile ex, Jess McMachen accepts a job caring for an elderly patient. Flo Gardner – a disturbed shut-in and invalid. But if Jess can hold this job down, she and her daughter, Izzy, can begin a new life. Flo’s vast home, Nerthus House, may resemble a stately vicarage in an idyllic village, but the labyrinthine interior is a dark, cluttered warren filled with pagan artefacts. • • • Jess is trying to make changes in her life, for both her and her daughter Izzy. These changes begin by taking on this new role caring for the lady of Nerthus House. A difficult task in itself, and one Morag, the other carer won’t make any easier. Things are difficult with the task of adapting to the new job and the requirements within as well as her daughter’s troubles at school and her ex-partner being back on the scene. This will only get worse as strange findings and even stranger dreams get added to the mix. I liked a lot about this novella. The setting was excellent and the use of limited locations allowed the dread and intrigue to build really well on repeat visits. The creepiness did, as it should, ‘creep’ into the story and layer the unsettling elements really well as the plot unfolded. While it felt quite rushed, I thought the ending was great too. What I didn’t enjoy was the portrayal of our lead, Jess. I found it hard to like her and it felt like struggle was her whole personality throughout the novella. I also found a lot of the language used in the prose to be a little overwritten and at times it felt some of the descriptions, while beautiful felt sort of forced. Overall I thought it hit the mark with the story beats and as it started life as a screenplay, it is a story I would happily watch on screen. I’ve wanted to watch the movie since last year and today I got to watch it for the first time. Four friends went trekking in a haunted old woodland in Sweden when they experienced paranormal situations that culminated in their deaths based on the 2017 movie adaption of Adam Nevill’s book. Behind it was an ancient ceremony and sacrifice to a monster that resembled a minotaur. Jess is a caretaker, and she is scheduled to Nerthus House to care for dementia patient Florence Gardner. When assigned to work some overnights, Jess, as a single mom, has no choice but to bring along her daughter Izzy. I love the descriptive writing style that makes everything so real! You will hear the sounds described (dull coconutting sound for one example). There are many throughout the book. It's been getting on for five years since I sat down and chewed the fat about horror with Michael Wilson and Bob Pastorella at THIS IS HORROR. Last month, while split between three time zones (the UK, Japan and the US), the three of us discussed all manner of matters, ranging from All the Fiends of Hell, Lost Girl, the pandemic, AI, indie publishing, Samuel Araya's artwork, the making of No One Gets Out Alive, and all across a whopping three hours. That, mercifully, has been edited down, but we finished our chat around three in the morning. At that point, I may have been hallucinating from sleep deprivation and now can't remember much of what I said. But it's always a great pleasure to hang out with Michael and Bob, and for the record, Michael first interviewed me in a pub beer garden, in Notting Hill, in 2011, near where I lived at that time. Rotten Tommy by David Sodergren: if Sodergren writes it, I *will* be reading it and loving it. The Skin Was One Mine and Other Disturbances by Eric LaRocca: I love a good disturbing short story, and I always love Eric’s spin on things. All Fiends of Hell by Adam Nevill: this is an alien invasion novel, and I can’t wait to see how Adam blows it out of the water this time! House of Bone and Rain by Gabino Igelsias: the cover for this is STUNNING and The Devil Takes You Home is one of my all time favs. Nightwatching by Tracy Sierra: I honestly don’t remember how I got this?? 😂 but it sounds intense and I’ve heard a lot of great things!! Cuando lo escogí como lectura conjunta, como nunca leo sinopsis, pensaba que se trataba de un thriller, no de una novela de terror. Toda una sorpresa. Otra ha sido el estilo. Al principio, a pesar de que la historia me intrigaba, la forma de escribir del autor no me convencía y pensaba que iba a ser un pinchazo. Pues nada de eso. Poco a poco, el estilo fue haciéndose más elegante y pulido, más plástico y oscuro, con descripciones absolutamente fascinantes y aterradoras. Habita en esta historia todo un universo de oscuridad, con escenas malsanas, incómodas y tenebrosas. Una delicia, jijiji. Para mí, a día de hoy, puedo decir que es el libro de terror que más me ha inquietado y acelerado el corazón. Ni exorcistas, ni payasos cabrones, ni mierdas. Esta es mi novela de terror oficial desde ya, la que recomendaré por todo, como ejercicio de estilo a nivel descriptivo (Nevill es un genio en ello) y como historia para pasar miedo. I’m going to try my best to compose a post without me word vomiting all over the place about this book because …🤯🤯🤯. I could not get enough of it! I crushed this almost 600 page book within finals week (somehow) and loved it from the first page up until the last. While reading this book, I’ve fallen asleep with it on my chest, still open and also slept with my light on for a couple nights because this was one of the scariest books I’ve ever read (which is saying a lot coming from me). If you like cults, documentary focused stories, and the paranormal… this is the book for you! It's been a long time since I fell in love with a character as much as I did with Luke from The Ritual 🖤 Loved this book's atmosphere - Swedish forest, hiking 🌲 The friendship - how it evolves over time (there's a friendship scene that almost made me cry, which is not common for me 😅) The characters - the four friends are very real, they could be any old friend you know Norse mythology and runes ... but I loved Luke more than anything 😊 #theritual #adamnevill #panmacmillan @adamlgnevill

The figure is everywhere - standing in the sea, at the end of a boardwalk, in the hall of his home - and Seb can’t seem to shake him. With every manifestation, the figure is getting closer and closer. Under a Watchful Eye is another masterful and well-crafted novel from Adam Nevill, he has fast become a favourite author of mine and I can’t recommend his work enough. Lost, hungry, and surrounded by forest untouched for millennia, Luke figures things couldn't possibly get any worse. But then they stumble across an old habitation. This book had a Blair Witch vibe, which I didn't mind. I also really enjoyed how things just seemed to go wrong right off the bat and just didn't let up. The cat and mouse game between Luke, Dom, and Phil (poor Hutch) and the offspring of Loki (Moder) that dogs them while they try to make it back to civilization had me on the edge of my seat! I think the only thing that keeps me from giving this 5 stars was that it was slow in a few odd places, and the second half got a little odd but not enough to ruin anything.
