Hydration isn’t just about quenching your thirst; it’s vital for your overall health and well-being. As we age the body naturally loses the ability to retain as much moisture as it used to. During menopause, it is even more important to ensure your water intake is enough to keep you hydrated. Menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats can lead to additional water loss which requires increased fluid intake to stay hydrated. Dehydration can cause a range of symptoms including, dizziness, headaches, dry skin, and feelings of fatigue. Here are some tips to keep you hydrated and feeling your best! 1. **Drink Water Regularly**: Aim for at least 8 glasses a day. By being mindful of how much we eat, we can prevent overeating and ensure that we are consuming the right amount of nutrients our bodies need. Three easy rules for portion control are: -Use Your Hand as a Guide: Visual cues using your hand can help estimate appropriate portion sizes. For example, a serving of protein (such as chicken or fish) should be about the size of your palm, a serving of carbohydrates (such as rice or pasta) should be about the size of your fist, and a serving of fats (such as nuts or avocado) should be about the size of your thumb. -Fill Half Your Plate with Vegetables: Aim to fill half of your plate with non-starchy vegetables, such as leafy greens, broccoli, peppers, or carrots. Vegetables are low in calories and high in fiber, helping you feel full and satisfied while keeping your calorie intake in check. -Be Mindful of Liquid Calories: Beverages can contribute significant calories to your diet without providing much satiety. Only focusing on a number on the scale as an indicator of health can be a loss for your wellness. There are much better indicators of health outside of weight and BMI that take on a more holistic approach- even if you’re within “healthy range”, you might not be functioning optimally. Things like: - constant fatigue - brain fog - hair loss - stomach upset - feeling weak - chronic bloating - loss of motivation - painful periods - irregular menstrual cycle - fluctuation in weight - inability to loose weight - increase in food sensitivities The list goes on… While these are common, it does not mean that they are normal. When we get curious about how to best support our bodies- we learn that we don’t have to just live with all these symptoms or rely on more medication to manage. It’s possible to get truly better with the right resources and support!

Through the years 🎵 My kid would say when seeing old pictures…”I got my chipmunk cheeks from you mom”. Yeah my little guy was the bold one. You should hear what he said to a lady on the train at age five. 🤦🏽‍♀️ How many times have you told yourself something comforting to justify putting an activity off? Personally, I have lost count, so I wouldn’t expect an answer to that question. I have even lost count for the amount of times I didn’t do it later, and once again said I’d do it even later. You would cringe if you knew the many times growing up I would wake with my makeup still on from a night out. I was young with worry about it later thoughts. Emotions are fickle like that. They do not come at will like we think they do. Yet I didn’t realize until three years ago that “later” was happening now. I remember a friend saying I love your freckles. Freckles? I have freckles??? Omg I have freckles!!! More like age spots they were!! I tried various things in the past. Noxema was my go-to for it has worked for our mothers and grandmothers so it must work right? Neutrogena as I got older. Then I upgraded for a more expensive brand. Yet all contain ingredients or other that may be questionable and clogged pores adding to aging vs reducing.
