Hier, sans vraiment le vouloir, je me suis lancée dans un Readathon. J'ai lu 5 LIVRES en tout : un roman, trois nouvelles et un recueil. Un record pour moi. De plus, ça m'a permi de découvrir pas mal d'autrices connues. J'ai découvert la plume d'Elena Ferrante avec son premier roman. C'est un récit et une écriture à mon gout : profondeur psychologique, les frontières de la conscience brouillées, un mystère à éclaircir. Un vrai coup de coeur. La nouvelle Mr Salary m'a donné l'envie de lire d'autres Sally Ronneys. Agréablement surprise de Galatea, déçue de The Victim. Le recueil sur les saints de l'univers Grisha (publié en 2020 pas en 2016***) était agréable puisque j'ai déjà lu la série Shadow and bone et ses dérivés. Ed è proprio vero più un personaggio e cattivo e più ti intriga. Non vorrei finirla ma il terzo volume mi chiama, Leigh Bardugo e appena diventata una delle mie scrittrici preferite. 🦂 Book Review 🦂 Rating: 4.75 / 5 🖤 Pub Date: April 9, 2024 Genre: Historical Fiction Fantasy I know this book received mixed reviews, but I genuinely enjoyed it! I loved Ninth House and Hell Bent, but I suppose if people are comparing it to her S&B and SoC series, I have no comment because I haven't read those yet (gasp! I know lol). I think in terms of pacing and style (not context), The Familiar is similar to Ninth House. The first half of the book is spent building the story and background. There are very strong Gothic vibes and the setting is dark as the story is set during the Spanish inquisition period in late 16th century Madrid. I'm a fan of historical fiction so I appreciate the slow build sometimes in order for the story to properly be told. The story focuses on three women and their different status and stations in life. Although they are different on the surface, they have similar chains that hold them back and force them to remain silent. There are themes of colonialism, forced religious conversion, religious oppression and antisemitism throughout this book. Luzia is the FMC who has abilities others try to take advantage of for their own gains. She is also a Jew in hiding during an incredibly dangerous time in Spain when Jews were being persecuted. Santangel is the immortal forced to train her, who of course, falls in love with her. The book is beautiful and romantic. 🦂 The Familiar 🦂 By Leigh Bardugo Genre: historical fantasy fiction Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 It’s giving The Gods of Jade and Shadow meets The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. (kinda!) My main pro is that Bardugo writes such clever, ambitious women, and I love that about her. Luzia is a bit ruthless and blunt in a way that I really like. That said, I don’t think I care that much for this story, though I do really love LB’s writing. I feel so at ease reading it. Not a ton happens, and the plot doesn’t feel particularly strong, but it feels like a forum for Bardugo to give some life to her own family ancestry, and that’s cool. I will be the first to say, that I don’t think this rating is super fair - I have SUCH high expectations of Bardugo because I love her, so please know, this is still a good book! leigh bardugo does it again. my love for luzia and santángel runs deep and i can add them to the bardugo characters that travel with me everyday. i loved the setting in spain especially since visiting there last year. a beautifully written book about beautifully written characters and a beautifully written plot that unfolds page after page. i will miss milagritos in spain and el alacrán.

Six of Crows✨ I can’t believe I haven’t read this!! While it did take me a little bit to get into with the world building, I was hooked about 100 pages in. Sometimes I don’t like more than two POV’s, but that aspect of this novel just made me love the characters so much more! This is a very adventure filled, fantasy novel about a gang who tries to pull off an almost impossible heist, set in the fictional city of Ketterdam. It details out the heist in each and every detail and throws some twists in there that you don’t see coming. Once I got into it, the writing flowed so well and I couldn’t put it down. Also, I love the aesthetic of this story!🖤 I didn’t realize there were prequels to these and I will definitely read them once I finish the second novel! And there’s a Netflix show?! Her social‑climbing mistress demands Luzia use her gifts to win over Madrid’s most powerful players but what begins as simple amusement takes a dangerous turn.” Review: There were so many layers to this story; a servant with magic, the exploitation at the hands of those more powerful, romance, religion, a magical tournament, hidden agendas and my favourite - the sheer survival instincts of a girl in a world working against her. Luzia’s voice was so strong. I knew exactly who she was and what she stood for. She is one of my favourite lead characters that I’ve read so far this year. All the characters were very strong in fact. I hated those in power which I believe was the point, they were written so well to reflect the rich aristocracy. And the development of Valentina was pure brilliance, she evolved so naturally and I was thrilled to see her support for Luzia in the end. Santangel was mysterious and enticing from his entry. I was enthralled by him and thought the way he and Luzia conversed was quite enamouring, a balance of banter, caution and attraction. I was very much rooting for them from quite early on! Which leads me onto the fact that the balance of their romance was done so well not to overshadow the main plot. The pacing was a perfect medium. I at no point felt the story was hurtling forward too fast and I never got bored. Every chapter gave me something new. Also shoutout to the short chapters - so easy to read! Personally, the religious tones were slightly too heavy for my taste. I find it fascinating to read different perspectives on religion so this book certainly ticked a box but it was extremely faith heavy which isn’t for me. But to this point I loved anytime Santangel was compared to the devil or the devils monster; it was a great play on the moral dilemma of good vs evil especially when it comes to magic. Leigh Bardugo wrote a great one here and I am sure I will be reading again in the future. 4/5⭐️ 📖 The Familiar - Leigh Bardugo

🦂The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo⚜️ 🌟🌟🌟🌟.25 I have finally finished The Familiar after almost a month and guess what? I actually loved this more than any of the other books I’ve read from Bardugo 🫢 I actually felt so connected to these characters in a way that I haven’t really felt in the other 3 books from her that I’ve read! I absolutely loved the beginning; getting to know Luzia so well made me love her so much. I know some people found this slow build up boring, but as a litfic lover, I was sooo captured by her life. I absolutely loved the relationship that unfolded between Luzia and Santángel. I also enjoyed the setting and the tournament a lot more than I thought I would! 🥀 The ending of this one had me a little nervous to say the least. I really wasn’t sure what kind of ending we’d get here. However, the way this story wrapped up was so so sweet and I really savored the ending moments 💗 *kinda spoiler??* I think these lyrics really show what Luzia and Santángel came to have - as unusual lovers who inevitably would do anything for each other. Luzia being the thing that reawakens El Alacrán. Just beautiful 🫶🏻 (thanks bestie for showing me this song!) Overall, SO glad the random TBR prompt wheel gave me this for this month’s reads. Even though I have a love of the Leigh Bardugo/Lauren Fortgang audible narrator combo, I might have to buy a physical copy of this one because - the pomegranate embossing with the black all black edged pages? 👏 Although a much different atmosphere than her other works, LB still masterfully world builds in ways that engulf her readers from the start. I found the Familiar to be a beautifully woven tale of magic and myth with themes like Persephone and Hades and the darkest realities of history. Plot summary: Luzia Cotado uses scraps of magic to get through her days of endless toil as a scullion in Madrid until her scheming mistress discovers her talent for "little miracles." She demands Luzia use those gifts to better the family's social position. However, the novelty takes a perilous turn when Luzia garners the notice of Antonio Pérez, the disgraced secretary to Spain's king. The king is desperate for any advantage in the war against England's heretic queen—and Pérez will do anything to regain the king's favor. Determined to seize this one chance to better her fortunes, Luzia plunges into a world of seers and alchemists, holy men and imposters.
