Transformation & Dedication - A story of deep personal commitment Today’s post is about one of the most humbling, amazing experiences in over 20+ years as an ACE-certified personal trainer & holistic health and fitness professional. I have been training a client for 75 weeks to run the 2024 Boston Marathon, 128th edition. My client had never run a day in his life, was 65+ pounds overweight, and needed a knee replacement. Not to mention, he is 70 years young! One day, after losing over 50 lbs, he came into my office and announced, “I have a new goal: I want to run the Boston Marathon.” So, that is what we did. My client ran for Tedy’s Team ( #54 Tedy Bruschi from NE Patriots) to support heart disease and stroke prevention. BE FAST: balance, eyes, face, arms, speech, time. My client’s wife and Tedy had the same type of stroke and survived. This was very near and dear to my client’s efforts for running. Being with my client throughout the entire experience and watching him cross the finish line was humbling, inspiring, emotional, and reflective. I was brought to tears seeing his love for those he committed to running for and the pain he was showing; his vulnerability was real. He did it—he finished all 26.2 miles, and as he crossed the finish line, we all cried in joy as he raised his fist in the air to say thank you!! I share this story of success and triumph for those who are considering any action plan for healing. You, too, can do anything you aspire to by staying true to yourself, your dreams, and your goals. We are capable of so much; fear, doubt, and insecurity will try to deceive you. Please remember whatever stands in the way of your dreams is only an obstacle, and you are stronger than you think and braver than you will ever know. Snapshot from life as a face blind 💃 Not many know this, but people with face blindness often can't recognize objects, animals, or even themselves. 😅 For me, identifying people is based on body language, voice, energy, emotions, clothing, etc. But when it comes to differentiating between other forms of life, it becomes more complex. A week ago tonight I had the great honor of being a storyteller for “Finding Our Way,” a Moth-like fundraising event for @wayfinder_schools at the @camdenoperahouse What an inspiring night it was! Eleven stories that ran the gamut of finding our way as human beings: beautiful, heartbreaking, hilarious. This included stories by several graduates of Wayfinder. What was my story? “The Odyssey,” about my 12 mile row to Warren Island State Park from Belfast with my 15 year old son @leohorchler in the summer of 2020 in the midst of the pandemic. Crazy times called for crazy adventures! There was the physical challenge…and there was the parenting challenge. I knew if made it through this experience, I could survive anything! Thank you so much to @nonaitkin for your wonderful producing, directing and support! You are top-notch! And for all the love from Wayfinder staff! And the after party! ☀️A new blog post is up!☀️ "As beautiful as life is, it brings its own seasons of resistance. You might know them well. They’re the seasons that cause us to feel stuck, discouraged, or lost. The ones where we find ourselves asking how we’re going to take the next step or what the next right step is. The seasons that feel more wasteful than productive(at least until we look a little closer). They’re the seasons that cause us to question what we’re doing and where we’re headed. We ask ourselves if we’ve failed, if we have what it takes, if we’ve made the “right” decisions up to this point. These seasons, for me, have often felt paralyzing and bring piles of doubt. I’ve learned over time that my feelings in these seasons will keep me stuck as long as I let them. So, when I’m weighed down by feelings of being lost, stuck, or disappointed, I pray specific prayers." More in the blog.
