We experienced many wonderful experiences & flavors on our way around Sicily, but one I will cherish was our tasting at Palmento Caselle, I Vigneri’s estate & vineyards. We had the privilege of a vineyard tour with Salvo Foti. . His impact on Etna winemaking is difficult to characterize in a few sentences. He began his career as a viticultural advisor to estates that are today the best in the region. About 25 years ago, he created his own project, I Vigneri. That name was associated with an association founded on Etna in 1435, now disbanded. The name is now Salvo’s & his sons’. . Salvo generously shared his vineyard insights - & his love for this place shone. He said this terroir is best for Carricante, the great Etna white (& its originate home). His farms at 800 meters elevation, almost midway between Etna & the ocean. Perfectly placed. . His facility, a renovated palmento (winery) built in 1840 has modern touches, but relies, as he says, on gravity, human strength & ingenuity. He farms organically; his wines are pure & transparent. . We enjoyed a tasting of his portfolio, presented by his son Simone. A beautiful, diverse lineup. Among the Carricantes, Nerello Mascaleses, a Grenache & a field blend Rosato, these stood out for me: 2022 Vigna di Milo Etna Bianco Superiore, citrus, herbaceous, floral, bright & shiny; 100% Carricante 2020 Palmento Caselle Etna Bianco Superiore, from a very small plot of ungrafted Carricante vines, honeyed apricot, almonds, spice, floral, lemon peel. Rich & textural. 2022 Vinupetra Etna Rosso (wine from the field of rocks), Nerello Mascalese, rocky black cherry, plum, tobacco, old vines, finessed & powerful 2016 Vinupetra ‘Viti Centenarie’, made from exclusively 100-years-old Nerello vines. Mōhr-Niggli produce anche Pilgrim, un Pinot Nero che beviamo spesso. Nel calice è giallo paglierino tenue. Lo abbiamo trovato intenso e seducente nel naso, cremoso e complesso sul palato. Profumo di melone, albicocca, legno, camomilla e vaniglia. In bocca un corpo medio ed un’acidità davvero ben bilanciata; note di mela gialla, pera, erbe di bosco, minerali e leggeri sentori agrumati. Situé à 15km au sud de Nantes, le domaine produit des vins en appellation Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, ainsi que sur le terroir de Clisson. Les 27 hectares du domaine sont ancrés dans le granite qui entoure la propriété, située au cœur de l'appellation. Depuis les années 1890, la vigne se cultive de génération en génération. Теперь о других румынских напитках 🍷 1️⃣ Совершенно #внезапно оказалось, что румынское вино способно конкурировать с известнейшими винными державами на равных. По слухам, в соседней Молдавии такая же ситуация. Я не великий винный эксперт, но те пару раз, когда здесь по совету официанта что-то пробовал, всегда оказывалось на мой вкус просто великолепным! Насколько я понял, основной район, где оно производится - Banat, на западе Румынии. Помнится, в Хорватии был такой же мощный эффект, когда ничего не ожидаешь от неизвестного напитка, а он оказывается не просто приемлемым, а вообще достойным! 👏 2️⃣ Познакомился с румынским бренди, марок которого здесь немало и примерно все более-менее одинаковы на вкус: сладенький, ванильно-карамелизированный коньячный напиток. Первый глоток такой же отвратительный, как и это описание, второй заходит уже лучше и внезапно за вечер как-то между делом с удовольствием убирается полбутылочки, причём без особых последствий наутро. Самая известная марка - Alexandrion, но разобраться в отличиях и оттенках вкуса этого пойла способны только местные сомелье без определённого места жительства 😁 3️⃣ Ну и вот что понравилось больше всего: традиционный румынский сливовый шнапс - цуйка (ţuica)! В каноничном варианте имеет 50% крепости и дегустатор наслаждается каждым этим процентом в процессе. Самая известная марка - из региона Bran, где мы с вами посещали один из замков. Также в ассортименте имеется палинка (имя не новое, так подобный продукт называют и в Венгрии, и ещё кое-где). 🍷 @weingutsaalwaechter, Spätburgunder 2022 🍷 Perfect day for Spätburgunder. My neighbour spontaneously joining for risotto and wine, when my wife was out with a friend. And what a fine pairing.👏 Light and elegant with a fine spice and aroma of black pepper, red wooden berries, some fine tannins and a overall decent aroma. Very mild and elegant with almost notes of some Beaujolais stuff.🙂 More spiced and raw compared to other Pinot Noirs, I had lately. Spätburgunder has it’s own touch.🍷
