I recently opened a bottle of A. Rafanelli’s 2019 Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County, California. 🇺🇸🍷 This unfiltered red wine has a deep, rich color that hints at its bold character. On the nose, it offers pronounced aromas of ripe black fruits, like blackberry and plum, along with hints of spice and earthy notes. 🌿 When I tasted it, the wine was full-bodied and packed with intense, concentrated flavors. The black fruit from the aroma carries through to the palate, along with touches of black pepper, vanilla, and a slight smokiness, likely from the oak aging. The tannins are firm but well-integrated, giving the wine a robust structure. 💪 A. Rafanelli is a family-owned winery with a long history in Dry Creek Valley, known for their traditional winemaking techniques and emphasis on quality. This 2019 Zinfandel is a prime example of their craftmanship. While it’s certainly drinkable now, I suspect this wine has the stuffing to age and develop nicely over the next 5-7 years, if you have the patience! 🗓️ In the meantime, I’d recommend decanting it for an hour or so to let it open up before enjoying.
