De um lado, o Barolo del Commune di La Morra de Renato Corino, com olfativo marcado por notas terciárias, mas boa qualidade de fruta. Olfativo com aromas de frutas vermelhas frescas, couro, suor e balsâmico. Na boca, mostrou muita tipicidade, com alta acidez, taninos arenosos e corpo médio, um Barolo intenso e de boa profundidade e persistência. Já o Barolo Albe da GD Vajra é daqueles em um estilo delicado, um vinho perfumado e mais fácil de beber. Olfativo marcado por aromas florais (rosa), com notas de minerais e de frutas vermelhas, com palato de alta acidez, taninos presentes, corpo médio e fruta bem presente. Ótimos, mas devem melhorar Talvez o vinho “menos pronto” do painel, o Barolo de Seghesio, mostrou ótima tipicidade, com um nariz já bastante terciário. O palato, todavia, mostrou ótima estrutura, boa acidez, taninos finos e corpo médio. Com fruta ainda presente e boa profundidade, mostrou alto padrão, mas ainda precisa de mais tempo de garrafa. Já o Barolo de Domenico Clerico se destacou pela tensão e austeridade. Mesmo sendo seu Barolo de “entrada”, mostrou suas credenciais. Olfativo mais terciário (tabaco, tosta e couro), com boca marcada por taninos poeirentos e corpo médio, um tinto seco.

Formulating wine descriptions based on memory alone is sometimes not that easy, but I'll try. 2015 Barolo Sarmassa Virna Borgogno 03.12.22 @ More Macine La Morra The Sarmassa Vineyard is located in Barolo. total surface area 33.74 ha. 240-300 m altitude. The Sarmassa had wonderfully silky tannins, an impressive, intense fruit, slightly sweet with aromas of dried figs, ripe black cherries, plums, with the necessary balance between sweet fruit, inviting and seductive, silky tannins and a gentle acidity, with lots of power but curbed, wonderfully slow, it brings its richness to the palate without being overwhelming or impetuous. A wonderful, rich Barolo who now knows how to beguile with lots of hedonism and generous charm. It gave us all a lot of joy and happiness. VIRNA - LANGHE BIANCO DOC "STOFUORI" 2020 Vitigno: 100% Timorasso Gradazione: 12,5% Si sa, il Timorasso è il principe dei vigneti delle colline tortonesi ma Virna Borgogno, a Barolo, ha deciso di sperimentare e di proporre una versione del tutto insolita. È così che nasce "StoFuori", nome nato per sottolineare il fatto che le Langhe non sono terra d'elezione per il Timorasso, ma anche perché farlo in questi territori "bisogna essere un po' fuori", come loro stessi affermano sul sito della cantina. Al calice si presenta giallo paglierino brillante. Al naso si percepiscono sentori fruttati di pesca, pera e tocchi agrumati di pompelmo, per poi evolvere su nuance di ginestra. Sullo sfondo una scia minerale. In bocca è fresco, di piacevole beva e caratterizzato da una spiccata acidità. Cannubi Boschis. 2018-2008!!! Si differenzia dal resto dei Cannubi per il carattere tannico più disteso, in genere il vino è di buon corpo ed eleganza. Le dieci annate di Virna mi hanno fatto divertire. Non ho segnato nemmeno una parola cercando di memorizzare l’essenziale ed allenare la memoria. Amo tantissimo fare le verticali perché confermano ancora ed ancora, che il vino è vivo. Che ogni annata va presa singolarmente. Che il riposo in cantina fa bene a certi vini, Che la stessa vigna ogni anno regala un’emozione diversa. E sai magari,come dovrebbe essere ma speri che ti possa stupire inaspettatamente! Infatti anche se le dieci annate di Virna sono unite dallo stile di produzione, sono profondi ed eleganti, ma ogni singolo calice è diverso e parla della sua particolare annata! Skipping forward a bit, our last (and Richard’s favorite) tasting was at @virnaborgognowinery with Virna herself. We were shown around the winery by Virna’s nephew and then Virna sat us down to walk through her *exquisite* wines. Virna is the first (and only!) female to have an oenology degree in all of Italy. She shared with us what it was like taking the winery over from her father, where the climactic factors impact certain hillsides, and how much they needed rain. Thankfully, during our chat, the skies opened up for a bit! We were so enamored with Virna’s wine that despite sticking to a 12-bottle max for bringing home (so as to ensure it fits in our wine suitcase), all reason was abandoned and we shipped some boxes home. It’s simply too good not to. Thanks to Virna for meeting us on a Sunday evening, despite the fact that I got my wires crossed and forgot to confirm in advance. We are opening some of Virna’s wine tonight while we cook some Italian food. We also bought a wooden wine box so that Virna can be at our dining table even when we aren’t drinking her wine! 𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐧𝐚 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐨, 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐨, 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐛𝐢 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟖-𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟖, 𝟐𝟖.𝟎𝟓.𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟐 / @virnaborgognowinery It was a huge privilege and highly insightful moment to taste 𝗩𝗶𝗿𝗻𝗮’𝘀 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗯𝗶 (the vineyards are located in the Cannubi Boschis MGA, vines with an age of more than 50 years) in a complete vertical from 2008-2018 ~ with @virnaborgogno herself, il grande @collapietro, @viktorija_blazevic and a friend from Israel. Maceration with skins for about 10 days and affinamento in botte grande and used tonneaux for about 18 months. 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗯𝗶 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟴 Translucent, shimmering red hue with slight brick red reflexes on the edge. Light in body, elegant with a bright red fruit and floral-earthy character. Very open and giving, in a refreshing, delicate and seductive way; it brings up rose petal, blue flowers, red berry as well as tickling mentholated and mild saline undertones. This is an utterly pure, elegant and seductive Cannubi, I liked it a lot at this young stage. 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗯𝗶 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟳 The 2017 possesses a bigger concentration and more weight & volume, being lusher in its essence. On the nose it boasts also darker fruits and stronger tarry scents. The bouquet shows a nice density and inner flow, with wild rose, dried flowers, blueberry, tar and some nutmeg. Rich and quite round, the 2017 will be a good choice for early Barolo drinkers. 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗯𝗶 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟲 The 2016 is all lifted, balanced and possesses a terrific graceful power. Complex and structured, it carries aromas of plum, cool red cherry, freshly cut flowers, orange zest, ethereal oils and whisper of mixed spices & herbs. It expands a lot on the palate and ushers in a floral finish. Deep and elegant, a wine I’d like to watch evolve in the glass for hours. A sort of textbook Cannubi Barolo to me. Gorgeous and characterful. Yesterday we celebrated 30 x3 🥳 We were all supposed to be in Piedmont to celebrate it but unfortunately we had to cancel our trip last month. We had scheduled tastings at both Azelia and Viberti Giovanni so felt fitting to drink their wines during yesterdays celebration. @lorenzo_scavino_azelia Bricco Voghera Riserva is one of my favourite wines and the 2009 drinks marvelously now. It really packs a punch with a great complexity, high intensity, well balanced and a never ending after taste that keeps the intensity for minutes. Notes of tobacco, smoke, eucalyptus, cherry, dark chocolate, nutmeg, mushroom, earth and licorice. Seperate post for @virnaborgognowinery 2015 Cannubi but a really great wine as well. @viberti_giovanni 2013 ravera is the wine that will benefit the most with time. Apart from cherry and violet it also has a very interesting smell of the sea normally found in white wines. Cherry, violet, tobacco and orange peel on the tongue. High on tannins and acidity.
