After my tricky experience a few days prior, I was a little anxious about leading on trad again, especially crack climbing. But I was invited out for a chill weekday climb with some wonderful Mountaineers friends. The weather was perfect, the climbing was fun, and the vibes were supportive and friendly. It was such a confidence boost to have a successful day on rock. And I’m thankful for climbing friends who build each other up ❤️ . 📍 land of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation and the Yakama, np̓əšqʷáw̓səxʷ (Wenatchi), Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla peoples . @mountaineersorg #landacknowledgement #optoutside #recreateresponsibly #tradclimbing #multipitchclimbing #womenclimbing #cragclimbing #cragday

As we celebrate this long weekend, let's take a moment to reflect on the deeper history of this land. Victoria Day traditionally marks the birthday of Queen Victoria, a symbol of colonial power. For many Indigenous communities, this day serves as a reminder of the ongoing impacts of colonization and the resilience of their cultures. Let's honor the original stewards of this land by: 🌿 Acknowledging the traditional territories we live on. 🌿 Learning about the rich histories and cultures of Indigenous peoples. 🌿 Supporting Indigenous-led initiatives and businesses. 🌿 Advocating for reconciliation and decolonization. May this day inspire us to foster a future rooted in respect, understanding, and shared prosperity. #VictoriaDay #Decolonize #IndigenousSolidarity #TruthAndReconciliation #LandAcknowledgement

Dear Tulum 🤍🌴☀️🐚 First you shook me as you were not what I was imagining you to be, I have to admit I was too many years behind of time in my fantasies, but you have ‘developed’ rapidly. I didn’t have much expectations how everything will be but an idea that I had wasn’t it. And it’s not you, is everything what happened to you. I knew intuitively so strongly I had to come here even the dream bigger than that has been more cultural experience but what called me was you, your land, your spirit. During the high season shock of people gathering here for.. well at least not for the land and culture, I questioned why I’m here but I cultivated deep deep bond with you and that made me wanting to stay. It was so clear why I came for you. Since then I have fallen in love with you so deeply, I have received so much from your magical ancient wisdom and from the beautiful Mexican locals, learned a lot, formed heartfelt connections and had so much FUN. Few weeks to go and I don’t know yet will I be back, that wasn’t the plan but my heart aches to leave you. For now I have nothing but love, honor and respect and nothing but deep compassion for you and your peoples difficult history. This place is far from problem free zone and I do see that unfortunately only increasing. As we travel and visit places where the modern style of colonisation is going on and rapidly taking over, the most important thing is to check in with ourselves, are we a part of the problem, are we just feeding it or are we leaving something good behind as visitors, for the land and for it’s natives that actually belong to the lands. This can mean different things for all, but the intention and acknowledgment is what matters the most. Are we just taking, or are we somehow also giving. Love you dearly, so grateful for everything and for making me feel home, thank you thank you thank you 💚🤍❤️✨🙏 #responsibletourism #neocolonialism #conscioustravel #landacknowledgement #spreadlove #tulum #travelgram #mexico

I recently had my first climb where something went wrong. We were fortunate in a lot of ways. We were nearly at the top of the climb. We were able to walk off the top instead of having to rappel. Our leader made an excellent plan and executed it flawlessly. And everyone stayed calm and did their part. Among many other things. In the end, we all made it down safely. . I’m oddly glad for the experience. I certainly learned a lot. And it was a good reminder that climbing is a dangerous sport. I saw firsthand how the skills and training of everyone in the group can keep a tricky situation from becoming something much worse. And I’m thankful to be in a community of people who take their training and the safety of everyone very seriously ❤️ . 📍land of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation and the Yakama, np̓əšqʷáw̓səxʷ (Wenatchi), Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla peoples . #landacknowledgement #optoutside #recreateresponsibly #tradclimbing #multipitchclimbing #climbingselfrescue #womenclimbing #cragclimbing

At our Living Legacy Retreat this past weekend, I guided everyone through a land acknowledgment at the Brew Creek Centre outside of Whistler, BC. I never want it to feel like a checklist or a requirement ~ I want the words to transcend into an experience, feeling the earth beneath our feet and connecting to our own ancestors as well as the stewards of the land since time immemorial. I want to create space to connect with any emotions that the acknowledgment may stir in you. After the guided meditation and acknowledgment of the ancestral and unceded territories of the Lil’wat Nation and Squamish Nation, I shared this phenomenal botanical deck I bought from @skwalwenbotanicals during the @coralus_world (un)summit. I invited people to go for a walk and connect with the indigenous plants that surrounded us, using these cards to open a doorway into the wonderful world of botany and the gifts each plant had to offer. I loved seeing people interact with these cards and ask questions as they explored their own relationships with the land. Thank you @leighjenny for this gift of inquiry and wisdom ~ it fit into our themes of legacy keeping in the most beautiful way 🌱

we wanted to take a moment to share our land acknowledgement statement & commitment this morning. FOCUS, "i am somebody" partners & crew involved are based in the homelands of numerous Indigenous & Native tribal nations. our facilities hold many cotemporary & historical connections to the Wyandot, Sandusky, Shawnee, Cree, Ottawa, Mingo, & multiple other Indigenous tribal nations, present & past, who were forcibly removed from the area. Hancock County & local counties within this area's history reveals an intricate web of economic & cultural significance. we recognize the stewardship, dedication & presence of those for whom the Great Black Swamp & the Lower Great Lakes region is home. through this statement, we aim to trace the past to the present to inform current conditions. it is within this organizations responsibility as a recovery & wellness community to disseminate knowledge about Indigenous peoples & bridge the relationships, past & present, with tribal nations & individuals on their recovery journey. we recognize the forced relocation of tribal nations to & from this land & we strive to decolonize history & present conditions. we thank indigenous individuals & communities who have been living & working on the land from time memorial. this type of acknowledgement must not only be through statement, but in action & practice as well, in order to foster inclusive, respectful & sustainable communities. #landacknowledgement #ohio #hancockcounty #findlay #podcast #resource #wellness #community #recovery #iamsomebody

No Where, Now Here. --- There's been this mantra running inside my head for quite some time now that I thought of when editing this photo. Somewhere along the lines I started thinking about how fast paced our lives are and we tend to walk right by the beauty of our world. These spaces where if asked you might say, "I'm no where special." The earth is special to me and walking past her to me feels like having a disconnect from the world itself. Whenever I start to feel the world is moving too fast, or even myself "going, going, going" with no time to rest, I remind myself to pause and save a moment to appreciate what she has given me. Having a camera in hand helps yes, but really it's the meditative practice for me to just stop what I'm doing and accept that I am NOW HERE. The "Now Here" moments are the times when I finally feel like I've broken away from the machine. The harsh reality is our world is driven by greed, the grind, the $$$, the fears, the FOMO, the shiny things and the fast flings. We all have a drive that's different from our neighbors, different ambitions, different goals. But one thing we all have in common is that we all have a time when we just feel flat out BURNED OUT! Our day to day lives are just going... no where! This post I hope reminds you that you are not alone. I too have days where I'm burned out by the hustle. We all have to cross that bridge one day and ask ourselves if everything we are doing in our life is meaningful? Is it truly benefitting society AND the planet? I'm here to tell you, you're part no matter where, is always loved, needed, and appreciated. It's OK to feel like you aren't where you want to be [physcially or mentally]. One day, maybe even today, you'll find time to slow down that racing mind of yours so that the Mother Earth can heal you and tell you how much she just wants you take care of yourself - and drink more water. The answers you ponder on most will come to you if you listen to her, and you will finally feel like you are where you are supposed to be. On that day you feel proud of yourself for never giving up when you felt lost in an ocean and realize, "I am NOW HERE, where I'm meant to be."

Wrapping up some edits from our trip to @thehockinghills. Even though it was last fall when we went, the memories of venturing through Shawnee territory runs through my mind each day. My hometown, Cincinnati, is just a few hours away from this sacred space and to having a chance to reflect deeply on the roots of this land helps me feel grounded. Once you step into the hills, you can sense the history that has been here for centuries and peaceful nature of the people who originally protected these valleys.

I initially planned to use the quote from Amelia Earhart, “Adventure is worthwhile in itself.” However, upon further investigation, I found out that it’s actually just a part of this longer passage: “The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward. Adventure is worthwhile in itself.” -Amelia Earhart 🤍

This is a historic first step for the Land Back movement! We begin all of our trainings with land acknowledgements and take time to reflect on the original caretakers of Turtle Island. When we talk about the history that allows us to work and practice on this land, we must also acknowledge that colonialism is a current and ongoing process. It’s important for us to recognize our participation in these systems and take action to honour, support, and celebrate Indigenous communities. As we were preparing for the third module of our Perinatal Mental Health Certificate Training, we received some exciting news. It was announced that the Haida Nation will finally receive the title of Xhaaidlagha Gwaayaai (Islands at the Boundary of the World) or Haida Gwaii. While land titles are a colonial way to legalize the Haida’s nation relationship to the land, we are thrilled to finally be able to share a success story on this journey to ensure that all Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island are reinstated in their sacred roles as caretakers of the land. “There is no greater thing we as peoples can do for our Mother Earth and for our children of the future than to preserve our rich heritage and relationship with this land.” - Robert Whiteduck, Chief of Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation, 1998 Image credit (flickr.com) . . . . #mentalhealthtrainings #landback #landacknowledgement #earthday #indigenousknowledge #perinatalmentalhealth

Our Mother Earth deserves recognition everyday. She deserves seeds from us filled with positive thoughts, intentions, and energies. But before we can start to plant seeds for the future, we must first understand our intentions while living on Mother Earth. The Earth senses what you put into our minds well before we start planting out seeds, so what we put into Mother Earth, she gives back to us. If we have negative intentions in this world, the world will give back to you negative intentions. In short, the seeds that we put into our minds are the seeds we grow into our futures. If you show up to the world with love, attention, a means to listen to what she has to say, she will allow us to embrace her fruits, admire in her beauty, and will shower us with the things we need most to survive. She wil give us love.

#foodforthought while reminiscing on Deleware/Shawnee/Wyandot Territory. "Land is a part of who we are. It’s a mixture of our blood, our past, our current, and our future. We carry our ancestors in us, and they’re around us. As you all do.” – Mary Lyons (Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe) “It is important to understand the longstanding history that has brought you to reside on the land, and to seek to understand your place within that history. Land acknowledgements do not exist in a past tense, or historical context: colonialism is a current ongoing process, and we need to build our mindfulness of our present participation.” – Northwestern University Native Goverence Center - https://nativegov.org/news/a-guide-to-indigenous-land-acknowledgment/

Amor y Reconocimiento de tierras ✊🏼♥️ #decolonizenow Palestina, libre te quiero❗️🍉 PS: thank you @nativelandnet . I used your information as inspiration for this slide show. I want mi gente from lands that were previously colonies of Spain, to start acknowledging the rightful guardians of the land they are residing at🔥

figure 2.1 MA thesis - wasted words, a compilation of land acknowledgments. . . . It needs to be palatable, Easy to recite. Soft, But not too soft. Political, But not uncomfortable. They want something written that they can read. They want a prayer they can repeat. They want to say grace before business. They want to memorize, To avoid, always to avoid. I will not read your land acknowledgement, I will not be offering my own. This process is YOUR ceremony. Honour it, I guess… . . . #landacknowledgement #landback #onkwehonweneha

M E E T T H E D R U M ' S✨️ Yesterday's #hockinghillselopement was extra special. L + C planned their #destinationwedding from Michigan. We met on April 7, the day before the New Moon in Aries, to perform their #virtualringblessing As we walked into their perfect place in Hocking Hills, we did a meditative moment. Once at the waterfall, I performed a smudging ritual using #sacredwhitesage Their ceremony was love filled as they wrote their own vows. We included a Native American rite of tying arrows which were crafted Mr. Drums' grandfather. We called in the spirit of those ancestors who are no longer on this plane. I performed a #landacknowledgement from those who were stewards of this sacred space before us. This was a RAD #weddingritual Oh yes, and check out this amazing #officiantphotobomb 😂 Shoutout to @elizabethnihiser #imarryradhumans #runtoanelopement #hockinghillsofficiant

🌟 Historic Moment 🌟 The B.C. government and Council of Haida Nation have reached a groundbreaking agreement, acknowledging Haida Gwaii's Aboriginal title 🌿✨ This milestone comes over 20 years after the nation initiated legal action for rightful recognition. A real honour for me to emcee the official campaign launch and ribbon cutting for Mississauga's Ward 1 Councillor, Stephen Dasko in his bid to win the June 10th By-election for Mayor of Mississauga. A great turnout that spilled into the parking lot at his Campaign Headquarters on South Service Rd. Highlights included Land Acknowledgement from former Chief and a member of the Mississaugas of The Credit First Nation, Elder Carolyn King, a rousing and beautiful singing of "Oh Canada" by @pattijannettabaker and speeches from @daskoward1 and co-chairs of the campaign, John Capobianco and Colin Tyler - Great to see Alex Gregory (pictured with me and Stepen) www.daskoformayor.com ... #mississauga #byelection2024 #mississaugabyelection #bhfyp #mayoralcandidate #ward1 #mayorsrace2024 #landacknowledgement #mississaugasofthecreditfirstnation #ohcanada #vote #votejune10 #daskoformayor

Watch "Land Acknowledgement Prayer" exclusive on Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/posts/land-prayer-102149815 I used different templates to create this prayer that fit my time and place, and my passion for seeking reconciliation within my own lived experience as a human born in North America with both Native and Western European blood. I think that was my mother's passion and calling as well - though she never knew her biological mother, my grandmother, She was calling to us through the generations to tell her story, to weave a thread of connection. #nativeamerican #prayer #landacknowledgement #ancestors

On Monday, the city of Lafayette unveiled two public projects to recognize local indigenous people on the land that they once occupied. The City Council wrote a land acknowledgement statement last year, which has been read at every meeting since October. The city’s land acknowledgment task force included members of the City Council and historical society, who worked closely with local tribal elders.
