Magical every single time I visit you. West Fork is arguably the MOST POPULAR and ICONIC hike in Sedona for good reason. The first thing to note is that the parking lot fills up SO fast! It is open 8 am to dusk. We arrived at 8:05 am and had no problem getting a spot, but by the time we left at 11 am there was no parking and a line waiting to get in. Now to the hike! The hike starts by crossing a wooden bridge over Oak Creek past the ruins and remnants of Mayhew Lodge (burned down in 1980s) that sits at the confluence of Oak Creek and West Fork of Oak Creek. Then along West Fork Creek you go, rock hopping the creek many times ๐ฆ, through a vivid green fern forest ๐, a canopy of towering trees overhead ๐ณ, and red rock walls looming โค๏ธ. Itโs stunning! The trail is well-marked for the most part, but helpful to have a map ๐บ๏ธ. The trail for the non-backpacker is 3-3.5 miles long and you know to turn around when the only way forward is walking in water ๐ . I splashed ahead a bit and it was cold ๐ฅถ, so I plan to go back in the fall to backpack it and go further ๐๐ผ. Sedona never disappoints but has gotten super busy. Early bird gets the worm ๐! Doe Mountain ๐ฅพ 1.5 miles ๐ฅพ Out & backโ โ We originally planned on hiking Bear Mountain, but once we got to the trailhead we realized it wasn't doable after the snow rolled through, so we opted for the trial a few others had just completed. โ โ I'd love to try this hike again when there aren't inches of snow on the ground because that added quite a challenge to the climb. ๐ Doe Mountain trail takes you through switchbacks up the side of the mountain until you reach the flat top.โ โ At the top, you can wander and explore the wide area. Be sure to walk to the back side of the mountain to soak in the views on all sides! ๐๏ธ
