Gaja Gamini – The Unaffected Gait Yesterday late evening, I went on to see some Reels, and for some unknown past sins I must have committed, was subjected to a scene from a latest mega budget OTT Bhansali release, I have avoiding like plague (those who follow me know my sentiments for Bollywood). Nonethelss, I read a word there, Gaja Gamini “chaal” and saw one of its leading ladies apparently performing the famed walk (not!). One reel led to multiple such reels being pushed in my face & dear God, I think this will continue for some days. Nonetheless, I read some laughable explanations on the Reel for Gaja Gamini chaal. The supposed “chaal” is not viral, as the Reels are claiming; anyone can know that it is being massively pushed by PR machinery. Now ironically, just 3 hours prior to this, I had put up Meena Kumari’s Gaja Gamini chaal on my official page, for some work reference (maybe this is why I was subjected to the Bhansali torture later). Swipe to 4th slide & go to my stories to see the legend’s Chaal & Dhaal (walk & poise). You are transfixed by her gait & persona. Let us understand this ancient Indian term Gaja Gamini (I don’t know if it is mentioned in Kamasutra as some Reels are claiming, so don’t take it seriously); but in my limited knowledge this could have come from village women who balanced pots of water on their heads. Gaja = Elephant. Gamini = Walking style. So this means the one with the Regal Gait of a Female Elephant. Why female Elephant? Why not, say, a Doe?! A doe prances, as does a calf. Hence their walk is compared to one of an innocent child. Then, why not a lioness?! This term has been used for women in battlefield. Gaja Gamini is the unaffected, regal, graceful gait. You must have heard an old saying – The dogs bark, but the Elephant walks tall and unaffected. Gaja Gamini is exactly that. It is not being comfortable in your body; that even a lioness & a doe is. It is walking & making an entrance that leaves one transfixed at the Slow Regal elegance. While you’ve probably been to Goa several times, like me, I bet you hadn’t heard about the traditional backbone of Goa’s local communities —the Khazan system. I was stunned to learn about it during a walk with @cyanobacterhea in North Goa. This system, shaped over millennia, not only made livelihoods easier but also made Goa more attractive for invaders and colonizers. The people of Goa always faced a problem: their tidal rivers with brackish or salty water often flooded and ruined their lands. Ancient Goans built an innovative system that began with the construction of mud walls at the edges of fields, called bunds. They then built sluice gates to control the flow of water, with doors that automatically opened as the tide changed. This system prevented flooding of the lands and created an artificial pond that became home to fish and shrimp. The Khazan areas thus created viable space for agricultural cultivation, such as rice farming. Even fishing became an important form of livelihood, away from the coast. Over centuries, the bunds have become a habitat for mangroves and many species, including otters, crocodiles, and birds. Initially, the Khazan system was communal and a public space, with each community maintaining its own. Everybody in the village would pool their resources, look after the system, and ensure the entire community benefited. However, everything changed with the arrival of the Portuguese, who immediately realized how important the Khazan was. Their first official act was to heavily tax the Khazan. Although the community still maintained the system, the Portuguese took away all the gains. Today, a system of auctioneering gives winning bidders the exclusive right to fish and farm around patches of Khazan lands. A Member of Tamil merchant guild loads his goods at the harbor. The Medieval Tamil merchant guilds were wealthy and powerful. They played an important role in the flourishing economy of the ancient Tamil country and the spread of Hinduism in Southeast Asia. The strategic location of the Tamil country and access to the sea was favorable for trade and there was also demand for goods from ancient Tamilakam such as spices, Wootz steel, gold ornaments, gems, pearls, ivory and textiles. The Tamil merchant lords become so rich that they even lent money to the kings and sponsored the construction of temples and other projects. The influence of the Tamil merchant guilds grew in the Indian Ocean due to overseas policies of the Pallavas and later the Cholas. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar is arguably one of the most profound intellectual minds of the past century. His critique of Hinduism, particularly the caste system within Hindu culture, is frequently highlighted by the 'left ecosystem.' However, what is often overlooked is his equally strong critique of Islam, the Indian National Congress, and Muslim politics in India. Although I can't present all the points he raises in his works, here are a few major ones: 1. Ambedkar debunked the myth of Hindu-Muslim unity. He argued that Hindus and Muslims have never shared a common achievement; instead, their history is one of conflict and destruction. 2. He asserted that the Muslim invasion of India was driven not merely by political or economic motives but by a deep-seated hatred for Hindu idolatry and polytheism and the goal of establishing Islam in India. Despite internal conflicts among Muslim sects, they were united by the common objective of destroying the Hindu faith. 3. Ambedkar questioned the loyalty of Muslims serving in the Indian armed forces, particularly in the event of a conflict with an Islamic country. He highlighted the divided loyalties of Indian Muslims and the divisive nature of Islam, which, according to him, prioritized the killing of Hindus over their protection. 4. He advocated for a complete transfer of minorities after partition, believing it to be the only solution for achieving communal peace. 5. Ambedkar criticized Gandhi for his role in the Khilafat and Non-Cooperation movements, arguing that their primary objective was not to attain Swaraj but was later added to encourage Hindu participation. Gandhi was so eager to promote 'Hindu-Muslim unity' that he even supported the Amir of Afghanistan in waging war. Ambedkar exposed Gandhi's double standards, particularly in his differential treatment of Hindus and Muslims, including ignoring the killings of Hindus by Muslims, such as the murder of Swami Shraddhanand by Abdul Rashid. 6. Ambedkar pointed out that Muslims exhibited the same social evils as Hindus and more, while also criticizing the Muslim attitude of completely ignoring these issues. This is a must read.

It was the seat of power of the Asaf Jahi dynasty (1720 - 1948) and was the official residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad during their reign. Cellular Jail, located in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India, is a historical landmark that served as a colonial prison during British rule. Constructed between 1896 and 1906, it was designed as a panopticon-style prison, with seven wings radiating from a central tower. The jail's name "Cellular" refers to the individual cells built to isolate prisoners from each other, preventing communication. The primary purpose of Cellular Jail was to exile political prisoners, particularly those involved in India's struggle for independence. Many prominent freedom fighters, including Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, commonly known as Veer Savarkar, were incarcerated here. Veer Savarkar was a revolutionary leader, poet, and writer who played a significant role in India's independence movement. He was arrested in 1909 for his involvement in revolutionary activities against British rule and was sentenced to life imprisonment in Cellular Jail. विदिशा की गुमनाम धरोहर : lost heritage of vidisha : गुम्बज का मकबरा 15वीं शताब्दी में निर्मित यह मकबरा विदिशा के बीच शहर में स्थित है परंतु दुर्भाग्य की बात है कि इसके बारे में ना तो इंटरनेट पर कोई जानकारी नहीं है और ना हीं शहर में अधिकांश लोगों को किसी प्रकार की जानकारी है। गूगल पर भी इसका कोई फोटो नहीं है जबकि यह धरोहर 600 साल से अधिक पुरानी है।गुंबज का मकबरा विदिशा जिले के किले अंदर क्षेत्र में एक छोटा सा ऐतिहासिक मकबरा है। इस मकबरे का आकार गुंबद के आकार का होने कारण है इसे गुंबज का मकबरा कहा जाता है बलुआ प्रस्तर से निर्मित यह वर्गाकार मकबरा मंडप युक्त है। इसके चारों ओर मंडप है और यह 20 स्तंभों पर निर्मित है। वर्तमान में एक ओर का स्तंभ नहीं है। इसके मध्य में दो मजारे बनी हुई है। इसमें एक मजार पर 1447 ई का फारसी में लिखा लेख है। इसके चारों ओर मेहराब युक्त अलंकृत प्रवेश द्वार बने हुए हैं। गुम्बज के मकबरे के बाहर और आंतरिक दीवारों पर पुष्प डायमंड ज्यामितीय आकृतियां बनी हुई है। यहां लिखे लेख अनुसार मकबरे में एक धनी व्यवसायी की कब्र है जिसकी यहां हत्या हो गई थी। यह मकबरा मुस्लिम स्थापत्य कला ईरानी शैली में निर्मित है गुंबद के आंतरिक भाग में प्रस्तर की बनावट है जिसमें अनेक कमल पुष्प का अंकन है। इसका निर्माण लगभग 15वीं शताब्दी का है। @mptourism @mptourismworldwide @mptourism_ @incredibleindia @heritage.mp @culturedepartmentmadhyapradesh @mp_wale_official @vidisha_apna @vidisha_shahar @colours.of.vidisha @mera_vidisha #mosque #vidisha #heritage #history #madhyapradeshtourism #mosques #mpt #lostheritage #blogger #lost #indianhistory
