Our faith is meant to be LIVED out. So I’ve been in the pool going on 4.5 hours, I am actually still in the pool making this post. Has anyone read this book by #RachelHeldEvans? Some people told me to stay away from her books because they're "dangerous." 😳 After reading some of her writings and understanding her way of thinking, I can see why they would say that. 🤔 She speaks the truth without any fear; questioning things "good Christians" shouldn't be asking. She's not afraid of not having all the answers, but she's also not afraid to sail into the unknown and finding answers in places many evangelicals wouldn't dare to go. Her faith in God is real. Her love for God is genuine. And her desire to seek the authentic Gospel and Christianity centered in Christ alone is so refreshing. She's smart and unconventional. She writes from her heart but is also so knowledgeable and resourceful. Take care of yourselves in the coming days, beloved. Drink water and stretch out your muscles. Get plenty of rest. Be still and gaze at nature. Make a plan to vote (if you haven’t already) and a plan for self care on Election Day. . I’m unplugging for a few days to hold space and pray for our nation. I’m praying that love for all of creation trumps hate. I’m praying for our families facing systemic injustice and sickness. I’m praying for the freedom of our children in cages. And I’m praying that Holy Spirit opens the eyes of my evangelical friends- to see a picture of Christ that does not dwell in nationalistic cathedrals, but with the oppressed. . Whatever the outcome is in the coming days, I’m trusting in the liberator God that has power over the evils of white supremacy, environmental degradation, homophobia, colonialism, and empire. When Wednesday comes, there will still be holy work to do. So Vote, and replenish your soul for the journey.

Breonna Taylor should be alive though she was born into an unkind world an unkind history, white supremacy and the War on Drugs now people pick apart her innocence (stop it) after bullets killed her. bullets from where? they are unclaimed, from who? they are innocent bullets from nowhere? no one is to blame and yet she is the only one not still with us in a room full of men she she she she she she alone fell. angels come! close the mouths of the lions so they can’t talk about her. discussing the ins and outs and who did what she was home. she had walked through the day the innumerable dangers and arrived in a safe place. home. they opened the door to a safe place and took away safety and life in a few short minutes she should be alive and she is dead and no one is held responsible. this is not a discussion. this is the soul leaving the body a body that had not yet done all it was meant to do, a life. “if a slave should die while being corrected the master will be acquitted of punishment or accusation but if the slave lift his or her hand— thirty lashes” virginia code 1705, (paraphrased) this is about the body. we have said— white people this is our history —do not look away, if i do something to you, i will go free. if you do something to me, you will be punished and it lands on women, Black women, working with their hands in the same way every other person washes dishes, tidies the living room, pays the bills, gets by, a cold wall of white men at the door murder with bullets from protected guns that won’t be taken hands that won’t be disarmed it will happen again and they will not help you. everywhere chattering with all they know they try to rearrange these facts, to explain that they know they know better but this is poison it is poisoning us, stealing our humanity and her body. her body was hands and arms and soft skin, soft organs, a rib cage the heart, keeping it all together. eyes that saw the world and dreamed a body that was a little girl and then a woman for such a short time... Because Miriam saw her mother act bravely, she acted bravely. . The women of Exodus feared God more then Pharaoh. They resisted the Kings corrupt edicts to help save a Nation. They set the example for us today, to rise up and resist corruption. . I am only halfway through this book and it’s so beautiful and empowering. I am going to go ahead and tell you it’s a must read. Especially in today’s times, as we sometimes feel our voice or our actions don’t matter. It’s a reminder they do. Even the smallest of acts can lead to the greatest changes. .
Oneness ❌ Sameness. In the phase of life I am in, the cultural and religious experiences I’ve had in my life have taught me the lie that uniformity promotes holiness. If I wore the “right” clothes, demonized differing ideas which were not traditionally white middle class ideas, and taught others to wear the correct “uniform”, then I’d have significance and a place in a certain community. The expectation to serve others to the point of burnout would often throw me into bouts of depression or anxiety due to the overwhelming demands the “uniform” would require of me while the entire community lived the same. • I’m on a quest of holy resistance. Just like the reptile who molts their scaly dry skin off in due season, I am shedding the uniform of sameness. Thankfully the scales of my eyes were the first to be pulled back in this process. Thankfully God saw fit to offer me freedom through holy resistance as I learn to say “no” to sameness. This effects every single part of my life include my political views, biblical doctrine, my marriage, ministry, outward appearance, and the friendships I commit myself to. • This new season will be bright. It will be filled with wild freedom and probably loss of friendships on social media. But, the stakes are too high for me to wear this old uniform any longer. Holy resistance has found me and I’ll be going with her on steep adventures with rewarding views.

Any wealth generated from music sales will help support some important Berkshire local organizations that work in alignment with this movement of Love. Thank you for showing up on the streets to stand up for justice, equality and liberation for ALL. Let's keep the pressure up and take care of each other while we do so... it is a Holy Resistance that must be had, so we can keep all lives safe and sacred. There's a reason celebration is a spiritual practice. To joyfully dance, to praise, to mark the good in a given moment is holy work. And it's resistance work when we do it in the face of oppression, when things still aren't right, when we can see we still have a long way to go on the journey. To celebrate, though, marks the moment, seeks the good even in the midst of the bad, praises God, and actually sustains us for what lies ahead. Let's follow the example set forth by the newly-freed people on that first Juneteenth day and celebrate! Big or small, what can you celebrate today?

Day 2. Montgomery. Morning Reflection with Waltrina Middleton @w.n.middleton . She called us to reflect on and touch the Alabama River waters—waters that, at one time, carried more enslaved African descendants into the Deep South than any other river. At this port that received more of their broken bodies than any other port. We walked up Commerce street to the auction block; past buildings that once served as slave jails, slave depots, banks and insurers of the slave trade. Turning our face toward Jim Crow and #HolyResistance, we touched the water at the Southern Poverty Law Center Civil Rights Memorial. With heavy hearts we rounded the corner and found ourselves wrapped in the loving arms and profoundly deep spirituality of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church—the only Church congregation that Rev. Dr. King ever pastored. Finally, we met with Dr. Bob Zellner (SNCC) who shared what he has learned about how whiteness works.
I.am.so.proud.of.this.woman. I am excited for all that God has done through her, what God is doing right now through her, and what God still has in store for her. And I am honored and privileged to be in ministry and resistance with her and so many others. From following her around with a huge box of tshirts in Newark, to holy and painful resistance in St. Louis, to tearful, loving, consoling prayer in New York....I'm ready for more and am so excited to continue to be in ministry, dreaming, visioning, and renewal with you. . I got schooled today... . While setting down my teacup, I shoved some papers over and found a letter my son wrote to his 5th grade teacher about a book called The Boys Who Challenged Hitler. I had thrown him shade when he picked it from the library. Betting the war-gun-violence thing about the book grabbed him. . “I liked the book because it’s a bunch of kids a little older than me, Doing the right thing against all odds. And succeeding.” . Swipe to see what book I’m reading with my tea. . Kids are leading us, and I’m so grateful. If we won’t lead, if our Leaders aren’t...no worries. The kids will look to other kids to inspire them. . What caught my eye on the page and forced me to find out what the paper was about was the first line he wrote. . “It’s a Resistance story.” . Yet another one I have meant to post. This has been a key lesson for myself personally. I am easily tempted to take the work of resistance into my own hands which is usually fueled by my human anger alone. With Jesus, my anger becomes refined with a motive of love: to do this out of a love that comes from Him. It’s not just a fluffy, cute kind of Love but can definitely be fiery still.
