IMAGINE. And imagine if you didn’t have to imagine. // A year later. All work is my own. I made these as a provocation to push the outdoor industry last year. I never thought this late night work would become my shared post ever. These covers were made during a night when the world felt in disarray, and I couldn’t sleep. Coming from creative consulting and design, we constantly have to re-think for people and present what they need to see. In truth, I had been producing and photographing beautiful projects for brands that sat on hard drives until George Floyd. It’s hard to make it if your work isn’t deemed as valuable. So many will push a narrative that we are not outside. Yet, the truth is simple: our stories were just not as desired to be told, our perspectives not desired to be heard. And this past year, I have loved seeing new people finally begin to get a long overdue chance. But will it be short-lived? Now the work really begins if hearts are genuine and minds are open. And if you think it is only about a brown or black face for an advertisement or quickly pasted on a website, you are missing it. That’s a start. It’s who is telling the story, it’s leadership and cultivating new leaders, it’s who sits on boards, it’s designing for a diverse audience, rethinking ambassadors, etc. It’s EVERYTHING that needs reimagining. And yes, I’d love to photograph a cover and to sit on your board in time. #AmplifyMelanatedVoices  #HireUs #covermockups  #representationmatters  #blackphotographers  #mockups  #wallsaremeantforclimbing  #diversifyoutdoors  #browngirlsclimb  #melaninbasecamp  #climbing  #forceofnature  #optoutside  #climbing_pictures_of_instagram  #natgeo  #r29unbothered  #livefolk  #bouldering_pictures_of_instagram  #aacgram  #blackjoy  #climbingmag  #voguechallenge  #liveclimbrepeat  #flashfoxy  #mountainbabes  #theadventuregap  #sendingincolor  #bouldering  #outdoorafro  #findyourbackcountry patagonia authoritycollective intersectionalenvironmentalist thenorthface prideofgypsies camp4collective  sonyalpha oprahmagazine adidasterrex outsidemagazine rockandicemag backpackermag r29unbothered climbingmagazine lasportivagram

Namibia has become the first African country to eliminate mother-to-child HIV transmissions! 🇳🇦   Eastern and southern Africa are home to more than half of the world’s HIV infections, as well as two-thirds of new hepatitis B infections.   200,000 people in Namibia currently live with HIV and new infections mainly impact women.   But children are often overlooked when it comes to treatment.   „Namibia has fought against this injustice and we are proud to celebrate their immense effort to leave no child behind“ UNAIDS Regional Director, Anne Githuku-Shongwe.    Among pregnant women, HIV testing is available across the country. Access to treatment has led to a 70% reduction of mother-to-child transmissions in the past 20 years.    Namibia has managed to integrate: - Primary healthcare with pre-birth - Child healthcare - Sexual reproductive services  - Free clinical services and support    The World Health Organization’s (WHO) so-called triple elimination initiative encourages countries to simultaneously fight back against the transmission of hepatitis B, HIV and syphilis in order to protect the mother and the children. Theatre Review 🎭 Now, I See 📍Theatre Royal Stratford East 🎟️ PR invite ⭐⭐⭐️⭐️⭐️ Now, I See is the second instalment of a trilogy being written by Lanre Malaolu that explores Black British identity as men, and the different facets and complexities that come along with it. The story is of three brothers, one of whom has passed away from sickle cell disease, and the other two long-estranged but pulled back together by his passing. The story is told through the lens of grief but it’s about so much more than that. Family, how the children we were become the adults we are, the struggle of living with chronic illness - whether you are the one with the illness or not, masculinity and what that looks like through the lens of Blackness. But most importantly, it’s about healing. It’s about finding peace within and believing you deserve it. Listen. I am going to tell you why I loved this piece. I am going to tell you how Lanre Malaolu has woven together a piece that captures so perfectly the way it feels to be alive, with pain and anger and love and laughter all co-existing in the same moments. I am going to tell you that the use of movement and sound elevates this piece from simply a theatre piece to a true example of performance art. I am going to tell you how the vulnerability of Nnabiko Ejimofor and Oliver Alvin-Wilson, and the quiet yet constant intensity of Tendai Humphrey Sitima combined to create the most engaging performances I’ve seen this year, the feeling they created washing over me. But please know, nothing I say is going to quite capture what it felt to experience this show. Every element of this piece is so considered, handled with such care, and woven together with a respect for the creative vision that has led to art being born. Lanre wrote, choreographed and directed art. Oliver, Nnabiko and Tendai became it. When it finished I found myself sat, still looking at the stage and the title made total sense because yes. Now, I See. Full review up on website now - linked in bio and stories! #LondonTheatre #TheatreReview #OffWestEnd #LDNTheatreBloggers #AmplifyBlackVoices #AmplifyMelanatedVoices #NowISee

Today, the Africa CEO Forum took place in Kigali, hosting 75 presidents and ministers, 1,000 CEOs, and hundreds of media representatives. The “Made in Africa” narrative was a central focus of the forum, with Arise IIP highlighted as pioneers and key players of this movement during the forum. Their initiative aims to drive economic evolution by industrializing resources, ensuring product accessibility for local populations, generating jobs, and strengthening local value chains across Benin, Togo, Gabon, Chad, and other African countries. #AriseIIP . . . —- #panafrikan #blacktraveljourney #africanhistory #blacktravel #everydayafrica #africancreatives #representationmatters #blackwomentravel #Moyoafrika #amplifyblackvoices #amplifymelanatedvoices #blacktravelista #africandiaspora #blacktravelgram #blacktravelers

Happy International Boys’ Day to all the incredible young boys there! Today, as we commemorate this special day, let’s remember Emotions are for boys too – let’s stop teaching them otherwise As a society we have this archaic idea that boys shouldn’t cry and men should not show emotion. The ideal man in our societal view is a strong, stoic individual who shows no emotion and stays tough no matter the situation. The saying, “man up,” is a great example of this when a little boy who’s upset or hurts himself, then you hear their parents telling them to man up, not be sad and don’t cry Boys, just like everyone else, need safe spaces to express their feelings, fears, and challenges. In today’s world, boys face various obstacles, yet they often struggle to voice their concerns. It’s crucial to recognize that many young boys find it difficult to communicate their thoughts and emotions. We urge everyone to foster an environment where boys feel encouraged to share their experiences. Let’s break the stigma surrounding boys’ communication and empower them to express themselves freely and seek the support they need. Happy International Day of the Boy Child, You’re loved, cherished and Valued! We celebrate you today and always. . . . . —- #panafrikan #blacktraveljourney #africanhistory #blacktravel #everydayafrica #africancreatives #representationmatters #blackwomentravel #Moyoafrika #amplifyblackvoices #amplifymelanatedvoices #blacktravelista #africandiaspora #blacktravelgram #blacktravelers

One of the common themes that you hear from people who love the outdoors is that they engage in nature for emotional wellness or as a means of “therapy”. When we are advocating for equal accessibility to the outdoors, we are not only focused on the leisure activities, but also recognizing and acknowledging nature’s healing properties and how these activities can be therapeutic. Being surrounded by nature, connecting with others, engaging in heart healthy activities, building confidence or learning new skills, and losing yourself in the moment are all examples of how these activities can improve someone’s mental health and overall wellness. Last year, three hike participants- Kate, Claire and Melanie hiked Tom, Field and Avalon. They are all social workers who have worked in mental health programs and have recognized the disparities of care provided to BIPOC. Black, Indigenous, and People of Color experience mental health illnesses at similar rates as white people, but they’re less likely to get treatment at the same rates. Why is that? It’s a complex answer but it is related to: -Racism and discrimination -Limited access to quality care in the community they live in; insurance coverage issues -Lack of diversity among mental health providers (*in 2015, ~86% of psychologists were white) -Lack of cultural competency in providers -Stigma of mental health and/or services -Language barriers -Distrust in the health care system (*research the Tuskegee experiment as just one example of why this is justified) Systematic racism, discrimination and racial trauma can also compound the impact of mental health needs. Summits in Solidarity’s mission is to shed some hope and funding to programs that create a community, which serves as a protective factor.   Although nature can be beneficial, we also want to note that if someone needs mental health care, you can call the Suicide and Crisis Line at 988 and then press 1 for 24/7 support. 📍N’Dakinna, Lands of the Wabanaki (Dawnland Confederacy), Abenaki, and Pennacook peoples, and Massa-adchu-es-et/Pawtucket Land

• 🚨URGENT CALL TO ACTION 🚨 ‼️ALL OUT FOR SOCAL NAKBA DAY‼️ 🇵🇸MASS SUPPORT NEEDED (@ UC INTIFADA LIBERATION ZONE, WED MAY 15 1:30 PM)🇵🇸 In commemoration of 76 years of violent occupation, we call on all of Southern California to mobilize to the UC Intifada Liberation Zone on Nakba Day to honor all our martyrs, to end UCI complicity in genocide, and to drop student suspensions. Howard Gillman is not negotiating with us in good faith. He accuses the student negotiators of not meeting with him after he suspended all of them from stepping foot onto campus! SHAME! We gather on Nakba Day to call for Gilman to drop the student suspensions and continue negotiations to meet our demands! We gather to demand UCI divest from genocide, disclose their financial investments, delink from zionist institutions, reinvest in students and workers, give amnesty to student activists, and correct the narrative by calling for an end to the genocidal occupation of Palestine.
As the UC Regents gather for their May meeting to discuss how to punish us, their students and workers, for speaking out against genocide, WE CALL ON ALL OF SOCAL TO MOBILIZE AT THE UC INTIFADA LIBERATED ZONE! HANDS OFF RAFAH‼️ DROP THE SUSPENSIONS‼️ RECLAIM OUR UNIVERSITY‼️ FREE PALESTINE‼️ ⏰WHEN: WED MAY 15 1:30 PM 📍WHERE: UCI ROWLAND HALL 400 Physical Science Quad, #Irvine, CA, 92697 F0ll0w ➡️ @ucidivest @sjp.uci @fjp_uci @lsjp_ucilaw @rankandfileirvine

This gave me so much Joy!⁣❤️🙌🏽 ⁣ ⁣ Stevie Wonder arrived in Ghana for his 74th birthday, where the president of the country granted him citizenship⁣ ⁣ The celebrations started in Accra, Ghana, as soon as the legendary singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder stepped out of the Kotoka International Airport.⁣ ⁣ Fans took the chance to say happy birthday to you, given that the artist marked this 74th birthday in Accra on this May 13.⁣ ⁣ But apart from fans, Ghanaians are now also Stevie Wonder’s compatriots, as the purpose of the visit was for the artist to be granted Ghanaian citizenship.⁣ ⁣ The Grammy-winning legend attended a brief ceremony at the Jubilee House, the seat of the presidency in Accra, and many guests were there to share with him this special day.⁣ ⁣ The artist, who came to Ghana with his family, was clearly overjoyed, as the honour done to him fulfilled his long-expressed desire to relocate to Ghana.⁣ ⁣ Three years ago, Stevie Wonder declared his intention to move to Ghana in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, citing racial tensions in the US and a need to create a better future for his descendants.⁣ ⁣ In 2019, the Ghanaian government launched the Year of Return initiative to encourage Africans in the diaspora to relocate to the country.⁣ ⁣ After the ceremony, the singer was granted a passport, which he didn’t immediately sign nor seal, and which was delivered by Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo.⁣ ⁣ In a brief speech, Stevie Wonder said: “For years, since about 1972, l’ve talked about coming to Ghana. Medal Monday is all about the fantastic event hosted by @sabrunsmiles and her @blacktrailrunners community. The second year and it didn’t disappoint. Dunstable Downs was the place to be if you are serious runner who supports the black and brown community. @emancipatedruncrew was there in numbers to show solidarity in this must go event. It was a pleasure to run on the trails, run in solidarity with other running communities and feel centred in the event. If you didn’t come, please support the event next year. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this such a special day. Black to the trails 2024, you was a joy. 2025, I’ll be there! #celebrateourselves #shareourvoices #shareourstory #emancipatedruncrew #amplifymelanatedvoices #stories #blackvoices #blackmenrun #blackwomenrunners #runningcommunity #blackgirlsrun #community #runningcommunity #runfree #noonegetsleftbehind #weare #werunasone #blacktothetrails #medalmonday

what is a doula and what should you be looking for as a potential client💛✨ even though the doula profession is exploding, there still seems to be some mystery about who we are. many assume we are midwives, but doulas have nothing to do with the medical aspects of pregnancy or birth. doulas process hopes and fears, empower you with information, and connect you with resources. they help create an environment of calm, respect your right to informed choice, and provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support as you navigate labor, birth and early postpartum. birth is exciting, but it can also be scary AF, and a doula’s presence can significantly calm your nerves and keep you focused on the job at hand. some people assume they will receive the necessary support from their partner, but partners are often just as scared (if not more so), and a doula can help you BOTH navigate the unknown and empower your partner to better support you on the journey. while doulas are certainly badasses that you want on your support team, you still want to be thoughtful about who you allow front row seats to your vagina. its important to choose a professional with the right expertise, but also someone that you feel connected to. most doulas offer a free consultation to get acquainted and you should use this interview to make sure you feel comfortable around her. • • #blackmaternalhealth #blacklivesmatter #blackmomsblog #blackdoulasmatter #blackbirthworkers #blackbirthmatters #blackbirths #amplifymelanatedvoices #melanatedbirthworker #melantedbirths #birthworker #birthwork #homebirth #doula #doulasmatter #blackmoms #blackmidwife #birthdoula #fullspectrumdoula #postpartumdoula #lossdoula #deathdoula #momjeansonme #doulaofthedivine #thematernalplug #therealmommyshark #birthplan

This is a c0nc3ntrati0n camp, in every sense of the term. What is most shocking about this is not the t0rture itself, but the fact that CNN is reporting on it. If this is what comes out on a western media outlet after 40,000+ Palestinians have been killed and after months of nonstop protests, imagine what information is still going under the radar. The horrific thing is that these images are only those that are fully televised.
