Comes with the territory when you're a blind Super-bat. (Even Super-bats make mistakes.) Floss has had many appointments and check-ups over the years to check on her mobility issues, and those orthotic splints don't design and fit themselves! Even Crosby has needed a bit of care of times. All of that pruning and snipping can play havoc with his claws and jaw. (Thorns can be problematic, too!) I read to my eldest daughter every single night from her being 6 months old. I was told it was good for a babies development, so being a first-time mum, I wanted to do everything right. 🌈 Find a Rainbow Day 🌈 A rainbow generally only has positive symbolic meanings: acceptance, new beginnings, happiness, harmony, hope, inspiration, integration, love, luck, joy, spirituality, and transformation (to name a few). I've made no secret of the fact that I love rainbows. I have them dotted all over my house, on my clothes and stationary, and I even hang prisms on our windows so that we always have rainbows in our home. (Yes, I am obsessed.) There's many reasons why I personally love them: - I love colour, so to me they are so beautiful and cheerful - they feel magical and mystical - they are a symbol of inclusion and diversity - the song 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' has so many special memories for me - I have Irish family, so I always believed in the pot of gold myth (I'll be forever in the hope of finding that treasure... or a real leprechaun who will grant me some wishes) - contrary to the above point, they remind me not to search for things that aren't there and to just be grateful for what I have - you often see rainbows at waterfalls .... and I love a waterfall - they show that there is light/brightness after a storm Seeing a rainbow simply makes me feel instantly happy, positive, and appreciative of everything I have (my own pots of gold)! 234 deleted photos later, and I finally have a photo of me with my 3 books. I selected 3 finalists (best of a bad bunch) and then let my sis and hubby choose the final one. I had to edit out the background as I currently have no suitable walls in my house thanks to some ongoing nightmares. This took hours to figure out, but I now know how to edit a photo background. We are so fed up of the rain here, so we booked a very last minute surprise family holiday and took Cindy and Beryl with us as a 'thank you' for accompanying me on all of my author visits this year. (Camping in Wales and holidaying in Bulgaria all in one summer break - they're very lucky). They've had the very best time: enjoying the aeroplane, sunbathing, swimming in a gorgeous pool, eating delicious food, sleeping in a very posh hotel, having fun on the beach and relaxing on the balcony. A pretty perfect 5 days and a well needed rest and recharge for us all! 🌿🌸 World Nature Conservation Day 🌳🌾 The focus of this day is the need for preserving a healthy environment and natural resources to maintain a stable and healthy society. Saving animals that face the threat of extinction is one of the primary goals of World Nature Conservation Day. Sadly, many bat species and over half of all crocodilians are vulnerable and threatened with extinction due to a number of factors, e.g. loss of habitat and food, hunting, and diseases. Both bats and crocs play an important role in the environment. - Bats control insect numbers, therefore saving us huge amounts of money on pest control. They help to control viruses spread by mosquitos because they eat so many of them. Bats pollinate our fruits, and many medicines come from plants that rely on bats for their survival. 🦇 - Crocodiles help to regulate the populations of other animals – stopping them from overcrowding and degrading ecosystems. Without crocs, catfish could wipe out other fish populations, which are food sources to many species of birds. The birds, in turn, are necessary because their droppings recycle nutrients back into the system. Crocs also create habitats for other animals by burrowing and nest building. 🐊 Like with many endangered animals, losing these threatened species means that we would lose the diverse ecological roles they provide, with unknown and potentially devastating ecological consequences. Why not research the different ways that you can contribute to conserving nature? Help needed! 🙏 This is Rory. The smiliest little guy I've ever met. Rory was born at just 24 weeks. He defied the odds, and here he is now, very nearly a teenager!!!! Legend! Rory has many very complex needs and medical issues (he is a regular guest on the children's ward, where he is there right now), and he needs around-the-clock care. He is in need of a new wheelchair and the opportunity to get an appointment with the American doctors when they come over to the UK. So, in October, Rory's parents (who are almost as legendary as Rory), are hosting a local gala where they aim to raise money to help with the above. Bertie was voted as April's favourite nominee, and Crosby was voted March's favourite. The nominations for the Kindness Kangaroo award are viewed by a committee of children, librarians, parents, and authors.
