🌈💕When I think of Charleston, I think of Rainbow Row, the Market, the 🍍 fountain, cobblestone streets and all the history that encompasses this town! I have such a foggy memory but visiting Charleston on a 5th grade field trip {with my favorite teacher, Mrs. Myers} is very vivid in my mind! I remember being mesmerized by this city then and still feel the same today! During that same school year, I won a writing contest (about Miss South Carolina) so even though I never dreamed of writing books- maybe it was part of the plan all along the way ✨ When writing This is Charleston, I wanted to include all the special places that make up the Lowcountry! A peek into Charleston’s past! I picked up this book @charlestonlibrarysociety and have been so fascinated by the information, photos and the map!! There is just so much history!! ✨ Another book I selected hadn’t been checked out since 1990! The only problem is that I want to own all of the books I check out- haha, defeating the whole point of borrowing them for free! Does anyone else do that?!

After a long day of real estate, I *love* when I get the chance to cozy up with a good book and relax. 📖 But I'll be honest, it's hard to shift from work mode to home mode, sometimes. I'll be reading a good book and next thing you know I'm thinking about a home inspection! Then I realized I was reading "None of This is True" and it made me laugh because it certainly felt like the seller's disclosure was all a lie! 😅 So then I got creative and I came up with a list of book titles you WANT and DON'T WANT for your next home. Sometimes I Lie • Okay this one was recommended to me by my cousin because she needed to digest it with someone and I can totally see why! Imagine how scary it would be if you realized you were in a coma, you could hear what was happening around you, but you couldn’t open your eyes, no one knows you’re awake, and your memories have been ripped away leaving you not knowing how you got there or who you can trust. I definitely put this book down for a second in between chapters and thought “oh 🤯🤯” Once you think you have it figured out (you don’t, trust me lol) there’s a new twist until the very end. I loved the structure of the book with the then and now chapter layout and the diary entries..again 🤯 It’s 258 pages of twists, fast chapters, and leave you feeling like you’re on a roller coaster! Dans le même temps elle voit ressurgir son amour de jeunesse, Will Murphy, devenu un chef de la pègre londonienne. Autour du domaine de Longfield, trois femmes au destin incertain gravitent : Julia, cette veuve qui se bat entre ses sentiments et sa réputation de comtesse ; Emily, sa cousine qui est une femme libre oeuvrant pour la cause suffragiste ; et Edna, son ancienne domestique qui tente de survivre aux coups de son mari et qui va faire une rencontre déterminante pour son avenir. Ces trois femmes sont très attachantes. Elles ont chacune leur personnalité, leurs angoisses mais cela ne les empêche pas de s’associer pour une cause juste. Néanmoins par moments j’aurais aimé connaître davantage leurs pensées, leurs opinions et réflexions. “Les rêves de nos mères” c’est aussi plonger dans la vie londonienne de 1912 et son développement : les automobiles qui se répandent, la transfusion sanguine, le biberon et le lait en poudre…, tous ces choses qui nous sont communes mais qui un jour ont surpris. Le récit est parsemé de moments d’émotions. Les couples se cherchent et se forment dans le respect de l’autre. En revanche l’intrigue était par instants trop prévisible. J’ai parfois eut l’impression que des idées se répétaient sans rien apporter de plus à ce qu’on savait déjà.; Et parfois au contraire, j’aurais aimé que les évènements se résolvent plus lentement. Toutefois j’ai passé un beau moment de lecture. Ce roman se lit très bien et une fois plongé dedans, il n’est pas difficile de vouloir connaître la fin. 🫶🏼 A voir si je lis la suite… Vous l’avez lu ? Stone Cold Fox • Dangerously addicting, cunning, cheap thrills, devilish, and a gorgeous con-artist…I mean a really really ambitious woman. The tragic relationship between mother daughter left me kind of rooting for the “bad guy”. This had so much potential to be a five star book. The quick wit, the cheeky banter, I’ll just take it right from the book, “the canapés, caviar, and cunty behavior” all entertaining and funny. The downfall, I felt like it ran a little longer than necessary and it seemed really monologue heavy, overpoweringly so. I had fun with it though. Remember; It’s not personal. La vie rêvée des chaussettes orphelines 🧦 « Il n’y a pas de hasard, il n’y a que des rendez-vous. » Un réel COUP DE CŒUR. 💙 Je ne m’attendais pas à cette histoire en lisant ce livre. Je me suis laissée embarquer dans la vie d’Alice, alternant le présent en France dans une star-up et le passé ; avec son journal d’intime. Dès le départ, on sent bien qu’Alice a des choses à cacher de son terrible passé mais on découvre petit à petit la vérité… J’étais tellement entraînée dans le roman que je suis tombée des nues à certains moments, pas forcément de suspense mais une histoire si belle qui se dévoile tout le long du roman. L’histoire s’enchaîne, l’alternance passé/présent donne un réel rythme au roman. Au fil des pages, on commence à comprendre pourquoi ce titre, pourquoi ces chaussettes orphelines. 🫧 J’ai vécu les émotions d’Alice, j’ai adoré ce personnage fort et si doux à la fois qui essaie d’avancer. Qui, malgré les barrières qu’elle se met, est toujours présente pour les autres. Une histoire de famille, d’amour, d’amitié mais surtout de retrouvaille de soi-même. Mais ce n’est pas celle que vous attendez. » ; je m’attendais à quelque chose d’autre. Une histoire sur ce fameux rêve, sur ces cinq ans, que ça allait tourner plus ou moins autour de cela. 🕊️ Et finalement, l’autrice nous raconte l’histoire d’un amour, certes, mais d’une profonde amitié avant toute chose. Celle de Bella & Dannie qui ont une relation si forte et si belle, à travers les tempêtes qu’elles vont traverser. Et surtout, LA tempête qui va leur tomber dessus à toutes les deux : un drame qui monopolise alors tout le roman. Si je met de côté mes ressentis, l’histoire est belle, touchante et remplie d’émotions. C’est un roman plein de résilience, parlant d’un sujet si triste à un jeune âge, auquel on peut tous prêter une réelle empathie. L’écriture est fluide et douce. 🪶 - Mais comme vous l’avez bien compris, ce ne fut pas un coup de cœur. Bien qu’une jolie lecture, j’ai eu la sensation pendant les 3/4 du roman de lire un livre dont je n’attendais absolument pas ça et c’est très déroutant… cela vous est déjà arrivé ? The Christmas Spirits on Tradd Street 🎄 Summary: Melanie should be anticipating Christmas, but the ongoing excavation of the old cistern has been consuming Melanie’s thoughts…and money. Melanie is concerned about the ghosts connected to the cistern since some of them are not filled with holiday cheer. She is also concerned about the relics that Marc Longo is looking for, so Melanie sets out to solve the puzzle and keep the treasure from falling into the wrong hands. Review: A great spooky Christmas book. I love that Karen White included a Christmas novel in the series. There were times the book got a little creepy and spooky—it was great! I loved that the treasure had to do with the Marquis de Lafayette, a spy ring, and the Revolutionary War. I really enjoyed seeing more of Melanie’s character, BUT I did find it annoying when she kept hiding things from Jack and wouldn’t want to tell him. Strange events seem to follow Jayne Smith everywhere she goes. When Melanie & Jayne visit the historic home on South Battery, Melanie can sense spirits in the house but can only see one of them when Jayne is near. As Jack works to solve the mystery as to why Jayne inherited the house, secrets begin to spill out. Review: This book was filled with spooky elements. Also, the secrets that came to the surface…mind blowing and juicy!! I was able to figure out some things, but I still don’t think I was fully prepared for the truth to be told. This book had me a little creeped out at night. She is still restoring her house when Jack shows up on her doorstep with his 13-year-old daughter Nola. Nola moves in with Melanie, but she is not alone; a ghost is attached to her. Nola is gifted a beautiful dollhouse, but it is soon apparent that it possesses a dark secret and has many ghosts that begin wreaking havoc. Melanie, Nola, Jack, and Ginnette must figure out the history of the dollhouse to expel the ghosts. Review: I really enjoyed this book! It was a quick, easy summer read by the pool. Jack and Melanie finally have a little breakthrough in their relationship. I loved Nola’s character and seeing her evolve. This one lacked the suspense and spookiness the other books in the series contained. The mystery of the dollhouse was good, but it lacked the slightly ominous element shown in previous books. The House on Tradd Street ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We are heading to #charleston for a day in June, so I wanted to do some Charleston reading. I thought this was thoroughly charming. Maybe a little slow to start, but after the first couple chapters it moved with great action and appealing characters. I don’t normally do paranormal, but it was totally great here.
