As featured in @GalerieMagazine, “The Giants” pays tribute to the outstanding murals of Manhattan, many of which are found near #111W57. Grand, golden figures within the piece represent the magnificence and the magnitude of the human spirit, what humanity can be when we are at our best. They all seem to be listening to the Musica Universalis, also known as the “Music of the Spheres,” a philosophical concept that dates back to the Renaissance era. Alternatively, they lend an ear to the legendary pianists, composers, and singers who used to rehearse in the practice rooms on the upper floors of the original 1925 Warren and Wetmore Steinway building. Hey there, lovelies! Today, I wanted to share a bit about my recent travels. My time in NYC was a whirlwind. A lot of rushing around, some health issues, navigating bureaucracy, and braving some rather cold weather. NYC is an intense city, one which I love dearly but also a place that I feel is easy for me to disconnect from myself. 10 days into my trip, I realized that I felt drained and overwhelmed, like I was functioning on auto-pilot. I was checking things off my list of to do’s but wasn’t feeling too much. I was completely focused on external demands, and was losing sight of my own needs. That is when I realized that I really needed to create some more time for myself. Because let’s be honest, if we don’t make time for ourselves, it’s way too easy to become swallowed up by the daily hustle and bustle of life. So, when I realized that I was nearly running on empty, I made a decision to change the way I was doing things. I made some simple shifts like waking up earlier so I was sure I had time to meditate, to move my body, and to do things that nourish my soul, like reading, spending time with dear friends, appreciating nature and taking in the vibrant NYC art scene. These little changes had a big impact, aiding in my reconnection with myself, keeping me much more grounded and helping me deal with some challenging situations more gracefully. There is nothing new in any of what I am sharing here, it is more of a reminder that sometimes, small adjustments in our routines hold the power to bring about significant changes in our overall sense of wellbeing and presence. And I am also writing this to be completely transparent here that I offer self development work because I need to do the work too. I am currently writing this post from Portugal. Upon my arrival, meu amor took us to a beautiful spot in nature that felt very fairytale-esque. I am definitely feeling more #centered now and appreciating the simplicity and beauty of nature here. Would you guess I was sick as could be in this pic? And in excruciating, systemic whole body pain? • Well, I was, as I was suffering from a sinus infection that’s making my fibromyalgia, and likely my Hashimoto’s, flare. I frequently mention when my autoimmune diseases are flaring and my chronic pain is worsened, but rarely do I elaborate on it. Today, I’m going to. • All of my nerves are constantly firing painful signals up and down my arms, into my head, and all over my body. It feels like my cells are on fire and shooting throughout my body. It hurts so bad. It hurts to just lay here. The blanket on top of me is painful. My body feels like it’s filled with cement and is so heavy. Just lifting my arms takes everything in me right now. Then, there’s the whole body aches, on top of it, from the sinusitis... the sinus drainage and extreme pressure, making my sinuses feel like they’re going to explode. And add in my TMJ pain… My entire jaw hurts so bad. It hurts to even talk. Next, there’s my back pain. My sciatica is aggravated, so I have to be very cautious of what positions I lay in. If I fall asleep laying incorrectly, my sciatica is a million times worse when I wake up. • I think that’s about everything I’m feeling. I’m so used to being in pain, that I often overlook and forget to mention pains I’m in. This is what invisible chronic illnesses look like… hidden pains that no one knows a thing about. So the next time you want to judge someone, stop and think for a moment. Because you never truly know what that person could be enduring. That’s why it’s always best to treat everyone with kindness! After all, it costs you nothing and makes the world a happier place!
