They're quiet and clean, providing lots of meat with a fast turnaround. Plus you can utilize everything, like their manure, pelts, and so on. Perfect for my #rhuematoidarthritis They also have a sprinkler system 😊 this is my first official garden in the house as these got completed last June and with my judging I missed planting. In this wet and rainy spring weather, it’s super important not to overwater your tomatoes! Tomatoes experience root rot easily, and even can be affected by too much rain. At this point, we still have our tomato plants in pots on the patio (because of moving soon), and I’ve noticed that they are thriving much better than years past when they were in the raised beds already here in zone 8b. I really think it’s because they are not getting overwater from the spring rain. I can control when I put them off the patio to get watered in the rain, and when I need to put them back on the patio to avoid overwatering. I may use this technique in the future to help prevent root rot in this rainy climate and season. Introducing Roadrunner, Pedro, and Akula. Our family friends convinced us that we needed a rooster, and of course we couldn’t have just one new chicken. These guys are doing great and have been meeting the other members of the family. Pedro we are making sure is super use to us and the dogs and he’s been doing great. About Us - The Beginning Yep, this is us - my husband, myself, and our two kiddos (plus one in the oven!). We don’t look much like homesteaders. In fact, we’re not … yet. We’ve been prepping for years to become homesteaders. I’ve read as many books as I can get my hands on about gardening, livestock, and building. My husband has endlessly researched hunting, skinning, tanning, and blacksmithing. But up until now, it’s all been just a dream. A month ago we closed on our dream 40 acre property in northeastern Maine, and in just over four weeks, we will be packing up our 24’ trailer and driving into the unknown. Literally. We’ve never actually set foot on our property yet (something I HIGHLY advise against) - all we’ve seen of it is pictures and what information I could get off Google Earth and publicly available soil, hydrologic, and topographical maps. So yeah. Driving into the virtually unknown, to carve a piece of paradise out of untouched Maine forest. Our journey begins here, and I will be documenting everything (yes our triumphs AND our failures) so you can follow along. Just got my pepper and tomato seeds planted! The humidity here in NV sucks, so I’m using these foil pans with plastic lids as mini greenhouses. It worked pretty well last year, I’m hoping this year I’ll get a good amount of starters, because we’ll actually be planting in a garden this year!!
